Chapter 259 - Chapter 260: Cana’s Resolve

The story rewinds to just after Lucy defeated Capricorn.

Cana bit her lip as she looked at Lucy, who had collapsed from mana exhaustion.

Though Fairy Tail wizards received magic replenishment on Tenrou Island, Lucy had used the super spell "Urano Metria," draining every last drop of her magic power, which was why she lost consciousness.

Just as Lucy had promised before they set out—she would make sure Cana became an S-Class wizard.

But now Cana faced a choice. One option was to leave the now-fragile Lucy behind and continue the exam on her own.

She already had sixty points. It seemed like qualifying would be easy. But as the battles progressed, the rest of the Kin of Purgatory were being defeated by others.

If Cana wanted to pass, she needed to act fast and find her next target.

The other option was to escort Lucy back to camp, then resume the hunt. But in the time that would take, others might have already defeated every remaining target.

While Cana was torn, Lucy, barely conscious, told her not to worry and urged her to continue the exam.

Cana, likely already leaning toward that choice, pressed on.

During her search, she happened to find Mavis's grave.

It was there that Cana suddenly came to her senses—realizing just how foolish she had been.

Lucy had supported her selflessly from the beginning, and yet she had abandoned Lucy in a dangerous place.

Wracked with guilt and regret, Cana nearly broke down.

At that moment, the spirit of Mavis appeared, encouraging Cana to stand tall once more—and entrusted her with the spell "Fairy Glitter," one of the three Great Fairy Magics, because Cana had rediscovered the heart to protect her comrades.

Now she understood: nothing mattered more than protecting those you care about.

Charles didn't know what had happened exactly, but he could feel Cana's resolve.

Cana had come here for Brunotte's 50 points, but more than that—it was to ensure Lucy's efforts weren't wasted.

Looking at Charles, Cana said, "Let's split the 50 points."

Charles smiled and nodded. "No problem. I've been wanting to see what one of our guild's three Great Magics looks like."

Cana smiled back, then turned to face Brunotte with a serious expression.

"For Lucy who believed in me… for our guild… I won't let them down!"

She raised the arm bearing the transformed Fairy Tail insignia and aimed it at Brunotte.

"So that's Fairy Glitter, huh? What a waste in your hands! Give it to me!"

Brunotte became visibly agitated, his vast magical power surging.

Though he already wielded powerful gravity magic, Brunotte always yearned for greater power.

One of his main goals in coming to Tenrou Island wasn't to follow Precht's orders or help Grimoire Heart win—it was to obtain "Fairy Glitter."

Compared to "Fairy Law," which only affected enemies, and "Fairy Sphere," which was defensive, Brunotte preferred the ruthless and destructive "Fairy Glitter."

Now, seeing it in the hands of someone he deemed an insect of a wizard, he couldn't suppress his jealousy and rage.

A black orb formed in Brunotte's hands, sucking in air, pebbles, and even light itself—it was a miniature black hole, created with his magic.

"This is an infinite gravity field that devours matter and energy alike. Let's see if Fairy Glitter can truly take flight!"

"Super Gravity Orb!"

The flames around Charles began drifting toward Brunotte, and Cana had to hunch forward just to resist the pull.

The pattern on her arm began to glow—but her own lack of power held her back. As she tried to gather magic to activate Fairy Glitter, the overwhelming gravity began dragging her forward.

Though she forced herself to stay upright, the glow on her arm dimmed and faded.

Brunotte laughed loudly. "I knew it! That spell requires the light of the sun, moon, and stars—do you think trash like you could ever wield it?!"

"I can wield it!" Cana shouted, rising to her full height and raising her arm high.

At that moment, the bracelet on her wrist glowed and formed a circular shield, while the Fairy Tail pendant around her neck shone brightly.

Countless motes of light gathered around her, instantly restoring the magic she needed to unleash Fairy Glitter.

The protective bracelet and mana-replenishing pendant—magic tools Charles had crafted and distributed to everyone on the island.

They were originally designed to defend against Zeref's Death Predation, so defending against Brunotte's magic was no issue at all.

"Lucy believed in me. Charles supported me. My comrades and my guild carried me here. With all of them behind me… how could I possibly not cast this spell?! I'm a Fairy Tail wizard!"

Password accepted—Cana erupted in power. Blinding light surrounded her.

"Gather, river of light guided by the fairies! Shine forth to annihilate the claws of evil!

Fairy… Glitter!"

Brilliant beams of light swirled around Cana's arm, then shot straight at Brunotte.

Maybe it was because Fairy Glitter was such a ruthlessly destructive spell that no one in the guild had ever left behind detailed records of it.

So this was Charles's first time witnessing its release.

Perhaps for that very reason, Mavis had taken the spell with her to the grave—entrusting it only to those who truly fought for their friends.

Brunotte sneered, sensing Cana's weakness. Despite Fairy Glitter's power, he believed it wouldn't be enough to overcome his super gravity orb.

But he had forgotten—Charles wasn't just standing by.

"Dragon Slayer Secret Art: Crimson Lotus Exploding Flame Blade!"

Charles gathered raging fire and hurled it at Brunotte.

The concentrated flames struck the black orb just before Cana's beam reached it.

"Break already!"

With Charles's roar, Brunotte watched in horror as his gravity sphere bloated unnaturally and began to crack—red light bleeding from within.

The flames burst outward, and the orb collapsed completely.

Though Charles's Dragon Slayer Secret Art was also consumed in the blast, Cana's beam of light crashed through right behind it.

Brunotte was swallowed by the very radiance he had coveted.

Seconds passed… then the light faded.

All that remained in front of Charles was a gasping Cana—and Brunotte, collapsed on the ground.

Charles looked at Cana. In this girl, he had witnessed what true resolve meant—and even he found that light dazzling.

Whether in his past life or now, Charles had always loved this guild. So even if their enemy was the black dragon itself, Charles would fight to the end to protect it.
