Fal soared swiftly toward Grimoire Heart's airship, and Charles, feeling the wind howling past his face, couldn't suppress the smile brought on by his rising fighting spirit.
"Fal, let's say hello first!"
Of course, Fal's way of saying hello wasn't exactly friendly—a burst of fire spewed straight at the Grimoire Heart airship.
But before the flames could reach the vessel, they twisted midair and plummeted downward instead.
Fal let out a frustrated roar and was about to attack again when Charles stopped him.
"As expected—gotta clear the mobs before the boss!"
Charles had already spotted the man below with a high ponytail, and he leapt down without hesitation.
It was Grimoire Heart's vice-master, Brunotte—the man Precht had described as terrifying, someone capable of killing everyone on the island.
In the original timeline, Brunotte did indeed defeat several Fairy Tail members in succession—until he encountered the trauma of his life: Gildarts. Though he managed to defeat Gildarts by exploiting the Tenrou Tree being toppled, Gildarts later recovered and defeated him effortlessly.
And after that, even a post-training Natsu beat him easily.
Still, Charles was quite interested in Brunotte's gravity magic—and the man was blocking his path to Precht.
Boom!
Charles landed hard on the ground and looked straight at the monkey-faced Brunotte.
Brunotte crossed his arms and said, "Not bad magic power. But you're a new face. Fairy Tail has someone like you?"
"But that doesn't matter. You look like someone who can fly!"
As he finished speaking, the air around Charles distorted. The ground beneath him cratered as if struck by a massive hammer.
But to Brunotte's surprise, Charles didn't move an inch. He didn't appear affected at all.
More importantly, Brunotte didn't sense any magic or energy flow—meaning Charles had resisted the gravity spell purely with physical strength.
Charles, feeling the sudden increase in gravity tenfold around him, couldn't help but marvel at the wonders of Lost Magic.
Gravity magic comes in different forms. One branch is elemental—Earth magic manipulating the earth's pull. The other is a rule-type magic, interfering directly with the world's fundamental laws to manipulate gravity.
No doubt, Brunotte's magic was the latter. Though it's called gravity magic, Brunotte could wield both repulsive and attractive forces—it might as well be called Force Magic.
With such potential, combined with his immense magic power, it wasn't surprising that Precht had such faith in him.
Charles limbered up, his powerful aura blowing away the gravity pressing on him. Flames erupted around him as he charged toward Brunotte.
Their fists collided, and shockwaves and flames burst outward.
"Imbuing your fists with gravity? That's a clever trick!" Charles remarked before launching a high kick.
Brunotte countered with a kick of his own, their legs colliding midair with a deep, echoing boom.
Fueled by growing battle fervor, Charles activated his Dragon Blood Mode, and the flames around him burned even fiercer. Brunotte also increased his magic output—each punch and kick now carried terrifying gravitational force.
Neither of them used high-level spells. They were brawling with the most primal methods, and the coastline beneath them looked ready to collapse.
Charles was impressed—Brunotte really could trade blows with someone like Gildarts.
Too bad for him, in the original story, the trauma from fighting Gildarts left lasting damage. During the seven years Fairy Tail's core members were sealed away, Brunotte didn't improve at all—he even got weaker, unable to beat the newly trained Natsu.
This time, he wouldn't run into Gildarts—so Charles would be the one to leave him with a new trauma!
With that thought, Charles's strikes became heavier and more relentless.
Brunotte started to feel the pressure—not just from Charles's power and speed, but from his vastly superior technique.
After taking a heavy punch to the chest, Brunotte gritted his teeth, forced himself to endure the pain, and used the chance to distance himself.
"You really are a fairy who can fly… but even so, in front of me, you'll only fall!"
He raised one hand and lightly gestured upward.
Charles's body wobbled as the ground beneath him flipped and sent him flying into the air.
Brunotte clenched his other fist and punched forward.
A cylindrical column of twisted air surged toward Charles—it was horizontal gravity, powerful enough to bore through a mountain.
But Charles erupted a blast of flame from his feet, detonating the ground and using the recoil to launch himself toward Brunotte.
"Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!"
Charles threw a punch, shattering the gravitational wave and closing the distance between them.
His fist struck the ground, cracking it in all directions. With a deafening roar, the earth split open. Flames melted the terrain, turning it into rivers of magma flowing through the fissures.
Brunotte stared down at the hellish scene in terror. If that punch had hit him…
Fear began to creep into his heart, followed quickly by anger and shame.
"You will be crushed… beneath gravity!"
From midair, Brunotte raised both hands and slammed them downward. Tremendous gravity tore the earth apart and pressed it all onto Charles.
The weight was immense—even Charles's knees buckled slightly.
Looking up at the descending Brunotte, Charles summoned a red magic circle in front of him.
"Fire Dragon's Roar!"
A pillar of fire blasted into the sky, cutting through the gravity and surging straight toward Brunotte.
Brunotte didn't dare experience Charles's flames firsthand. He quickly redirected his own gravity to push himself out of the way.
As the crushing gravity lifted, Charles pulled his legs free from the ground and looked at Brunotte.
Brunotte was panting—he'd already realized he was no match for Charles and began thinking about how to escape.
"Wait a minute!"
Suddenly, a voice called out.
Charles turned his head and was surprised to see Cana emerge from the trees.
What shocked him wasn't that Cana had made it here—but the mark on her arm.
It was a transformed Fairy Tail emblem—and Charles could feel a powerful magical aura emanating from it.
"That's… Fairy Glitter!"
One of Fairy Tail's three Great Sacred Spells, Fairy Glitter is a merciless light that destroys all enemies. This spell was supposed to be sealed within the tomb of Mavis, the First Master.
Yet Cana had obtained it?
In the original story, she was granted the spell after abandoning her obsession with becoming an S-Class mage and reaffirming her desire to protect her comrades—earning Mavis's recognition.
It seemed this time, something similar had happened—and Cana had once again been chosen to bear that sacred magic.
