When Kahn returned to the group, everyone immediately demanded answers.
During the earlier battle he had shown an odd familiarity with Azula and her companions, making his identity even more mysterious.
This time, Kahn didn't dodge the questions. He openly explained everything.
Originally, he had hidden his origins because he was unfamiliar with this world and with Aang's group. He wanted to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.
Now that he'd grown closer to them, continuing to hide his situation would only create distrust.
And besides, while the truth was annoying to explain, there was nothing dangerous about sharing it.
However—he only explained his identity and origins.
The complicated relationship between him and Azula?
Yeah, no reason to publicize that.
"Parallel world???" × 4
Exactly as expected, his explanation earned him four equally dumbfounded faces.
Aang stared blankly at the others.
"Did… anyone understand that? If you did, can you explain it to me again?"
Toph let out a long sigh and flopped onto her back.
"Storytime's over. I'm going to sleep. I'm already halfway in the Spirit World from exhaustion."
Katara pressed a hand to her forehead, overwhelmed.
"I'm not saying I don't believe you… but this is more bizarre than the wildest adventure stories. I don't even know what to say at this point."
"What's there to be so conflicted about?"
Shockingly, Sokka was the calmest among them. He threw an arm around Kahn's shoulder.
"I don't really get all that weird multiverse stuff, BUT—what matters is that we've confirmed Kahn is on our side!"
He jabbed a thumb toward Kahn.
"Plus, he knows the Fire Nation better than anyone. With his help, we have an even better chance of stopping them!"
Sokka turned to him eagerly.
"You'll help us, right?"
Kahn smiled and nodded.
"Of course."
To him, this world's Fire Nation meant nothing. He didn't care about nations—only his friends, family, and himself.
Aang and Katara exchanged a glance, both smiling now that their worries had eased.
Aang said, "Sokka's right. As long as Kahn is our friend, that's enough."
"Exactly." Katara nodded—then smirked.
"But who would've guessed that you, Sokka—the person most suspicious of him—would be the first to defend him?"
"That was called being cautious!" Sokka straightened indignantly, then admitted, "Fine, fine. Maybe I had a tiny bit of prejudice. But hey—I've grown."
Katara snorted. "Yeah… a little bit."
"Ahahaha—okay, okay!"
Her teasing sent the whole group into laughter.
Until—
"YOU'RE TOO LOUD! CAN A PERSON SLEEP AROUND HERE OR NOT!?"
Toph's sudden shriek froze them all.
"…Right."
The four exchanged looks, shrugged, and finally settled down to sleep.
The next day, in a quiet canyon, Kahn stood before Aang.
"Do you remember the properties of fire and air that I mentioned before?"
Aang thought for a moment. "Fire is free and wild. Air is free and gentle?"
"Exactly."
Kahn snapped his fingers.
"But before Firebending, let's return to Airbending."
"After training with you, I analyzed your Airbending. You Air Nomads usually don't restrain air. You flow with it. You merge with it."
Aang nodded.
Kahn continued, "So now, I want you to use Airbending—but this time, restrain the airflow. Ideally, I want the air to move around me without me feeling a breeze at all. Can you do that?"
"You mean… okay. I'll try."
Aang took a breath and began.
Immediately, he felt awkward—as if he had switched his dominant hand. His previously fluid bending collapsed into clumsy movements.
But he was still the Avatar—an Airbending prodigy who had invented his own techniques.
Soon, he adapted.
The restrained air compressed into faint, visible streams swirling around Kahn like flowing water, yet Kahn didn't feel a thing.
Aang's eyes widened.
"This is… amazing!"
He moved the air again, fascinated by its new form. The earlier awkwardness vanished completely.
From the side, Kahn sighed inwardly. As expected of the Avatar. His talent is terrifying.
After playing for a while, Aang remembered he was supposed to be studying. He sheepishly stopped, then looked at Kahn with excitement.
"Kahn! Are you trying to tell me that controlling fire in Firebending feels the same as what I did with air just now?!"
"Absolutely correct."
Kahn clapped.
"If you understand this and can do this much already, then you're more than halfway to mastering Firebending. Your talent really is exceptional."
"Really? Isn't this too fast?"
Aang scratched his head.
Kahn raised an eyebrow. "How long did it take you to learn Waterbending?"
Aang paused. True, he had learned it almost instantly—even faster than Katara's natural skill.
So this wasn't unusual.
"As I said, Firebending and Airbending share similarities. Your mindset was your only obstacle."
"Now, we move to the most important step."
Kahn raised his index finger, summoning a small, calm flame at the tip.
He held it toward Aang.
"Take it. Play with it however you want—until you can apply the same restrained state you just achieved to controlling fire."
