A few days passed, but with little to no improvement. Edmon had been to the doors of Kallin's quarters in hope he could reverse his deed, but every time he was met with a locked door and guards who bore no message of the prince's whereabouts. The strange disappearance of the consort and crown prince was getting not only at him but also at his mother.
Within the refined quarters of the center tower, with blooming roses and soft lavender scents, Queen Elena paced around like a lost puppy. It was all crumbling with little or no way to fix it. Rowan had been awfully quiet and reserved, which at first she had taken as fear, but now she feared for her life, her kingdom, and her people.
Queen Elena was still thinking of a way out when a sudden knock jolted her from her thoughts.
"Who… who is there?" she asked.
"Mother," a voice called from outside. It was Kallin.
Queen Elena braced herself, wore a proud smile, then instructed the guard to let him in.
