Chapter 21 - The message Arc (16)

Scene: Thorn forest [Spy Unit Mission]

We entered the Forest of Thorns eleven days ago.

So far, we've been lucky—no sign of mystical beasts. Not yet.But we weren't alone.

From the treetops and shadows, we spotted movement—a cloaked group, disciplined and alert. We trailed them for days, watching, analyzing.

Eventually, we found their base: a hidden cave nestled between the jagged roots of the mountain wall.

But this wasn't just a cave.It was a tunnel system, ancient and vast.

After several days of covert observation, we estimated the group's numbers: over a hundred fighters, all of them well-trained and possibly dangerous.

Then this morning, something unexpected happened—

the entire group left the cave. That was our moment.

Captain William Rutherford, our squad leader, gave the order to infiltrate. We slipped inside silently, masked under layers of disguise and cloaking magic.

The walls inside whispered of age… and secrets.

Once within, our Captain relayed a clear directive:

"Remain hidden. Investigate everything. No mistakes."

He ventured outside alone to continue tracking their surface movements.

Inside, we pressed forward—quiet, careful. After several kilometers in the dim tunnel, we encountered a fork: two distinct paths diverging deep into the earth.

We decided to push deeper and split into two squads.

Each squad had its own captain. I wasn't in command—but that didn't bother me.

Our captain was William Rutherford—a warrior with the sharpness of intellect and strength in battle. Many admire him, and for good reason. Calm, focused, yet never afraid to dive into danger head-on.

We moved forward into the cave, the shadows growing thicker with each step. The silence was eerie. It wasn't just quiet—it was dead, like even the echoes were afraid to speak. After nearly half an hour of tense exploration, we found it.

A massive stone door, ancient and looming, already slightly ajar.

Captain William exchanged glances with us. No aura… no movement… but still, something felt wrong,Very wrong,We stepped inside. And what we saw—

It froze our blood.

Children.

Countless signs that children had been here… but not anymore.

Shackles, dried blood, torn garments… arcane markings on the floor…

A silence that screamed.

One of us muttered, "This is… this is inhuman..."

Whoever used this room—did monstrous things.

We instantly activated thought communication, relaying everything to Chief Rox Darman and the other squad captain.

Captain William's voice was tight with anger, but his orders were clear:

"Stay alert. We're not alone down here."

None of us said it aloud, but deep down… we all felt it—

This wasn't just a hideout. This mat be a ritual site. Or maybe an experimental place.

Just as we were trying to steady our minds after what we saw in that room…

A transmission came in from the other squad.

"We've found the other end of the tunnel," they said.

"It exits into the outer edge of the Forest of Thorns."

That was all we needed to hear.

The path was clear now—a direct underground passage from the kingdom's outer forests straight into this hidden lair.It wasn't just abduction anymore.

This was a network. An system organized.

Chief Rox Darman gave immediate orders via thought link:

"Squad Two—return to the capital and bring reinforcements with you as soon as possible.Squad One—withdraw to the fallback point.

Stay hidden. They're returning to the site."

Captain William turned to us with urgency in his eyes.

"We're moving. Now. Quiet and fast."

We started to retreat, retracing our steps through the cave.

But then— A Monstrous and horrible Roar.

It wasn't just a normal Roar of any normal beast.

It was something more scary than fear and filled with rage.

And it came from deep inside the darkness of the chamber we had just left.

We all froze.Even the air seemed to flinch.Captain William's voice broke through the paralysis:

"We don't have time. Move."

We sprinted through the tunnels, hearts hammering, trying to suppress panic.

As we fled, we stumbled into a massive hall. And there, in the center, towering above us— A colossal statue. Its features were cruel and majestic.

Long horns curling from its head, a maw full of teeth carved mid-snarl, wings spread like an open grave.Eyes that seemed to look through you.

We stepped closer, And then we recognized it.

"No…" one of us whispered. "This can't be real…"

But it was. There was no mistaking that face, those symbols, that presence.

The statue was one of the Primordial Demons—Orvadon, the Soul Eater.

A god-like entity sealed away in myth, long believed to be gone from existence.

And now… his image stood here, guarded by a group of the people, buried in the Forest of Thorns. We reported this discovery immediately to Chief Rox.

His response came swiftly:

"We're on our way. Fall back to the safe point. Do not engage unless provoked."

And with that, we vanished once again.Back into the darkness,Back into the silence.

But now we knew This wasn't just a mystery anymore.
