Havila let them talk and went to the kitchen to assist her mother-in-law in preparing supper. In the kitchen, when the mushroom aroma hit her, she felt her stomach churn. She suppressed it and continued working, then it became stronger, and she ran out and puked on the outer sink. She came back looking haggard. Mrs Delus noticed her pale face and was worried for her. She asked, " Are you alright? What's wrong? You look pale." She answered, " I think I have an upset stomach. I will go to my room and relax for a few minutes. Sorry, I can't help you anymore." "It's okay, the housekeeper will help out, go up and relax, I will call you when the food is ready." Said Mrs Delus worriedly
She then helped her out of the kitchen and signaled Keveelsky, who came over worriedly and asked while supporting her, "What happened?" Havila said, "I have an upset stomach, help me up to the room to relax." She then went upstairs, feeling all dizzy. No sooner than they reached upstairs, she fainted in Kevelskiy's arms. He panicked and carried her carefully and placed her on the bed, then called his doctor friend. He came over in a jiffy and then took her pulse. He then smiled at his worried friend and said, "Congratulations, you are going to be a dad, but you still have to go to the hospital for a further checkup."
When he heard his friend's words, it was as if a bolt of lightning hit him. He blanked out and sat down slowly, lay down next to Havila, and hugged her tightly while trembling. He closed his eyes and used all his energy to remain rational. He couldn't faint, either. Noticing the abnormality of his friend, he prescribed the needed medications and left the room silently. That's how the couple went to dreamland, even Mrs Delus, who came to call them down for food, couldn't master the heart to disrupt that harmony. She walked out and closed the door silently behind her.e
After two hours of sleep, Havila woke up and found Keveelsky looking at her stomach warmly while caressing it. It hit her brain immediately, and she too hugged him tightly. They stayed like that until a maid came to call them for supper. At the table, both Stan's family and Tamar's family were present and already settled. They watched as Keveelsky helped Havila down the stairs as if she would break. They asked themselves what had happened, but the intelligent ones could already guess. Their eyes brightened, especially Grandpa Delus.
They had their dinner silently. Everybody kept adding food to Havila's plate, and soon there was a mole hill on her plate. She didn't eat everything, though, as she kept leaving other food on the side. Kevelsky also noticed this and ate the ones she disliked. Some of the guests were burning with jealousy: Tamar and her mother, Clarinda and her mother. After dinner, they dispersed, and the needed parties went to the meeting/interrogation room. Tamar's family, the Stan's family, and the Lorenti's, together with a part of the Delus family.
All this time, Tamar's mother could not move her eyes away from Mr Lorenti. The others couldn't help but find it creepy so they were weary of her. Tamar also had wild thoughts about that man but too bad her thoughts will never come true as she was the biological daughter of her father. She noticed that her mother seemed to like that man very much so she imagined herself as the real daughter. Her parents never had good relationship so it was not difficult to be disillusioned.
Her dad had several mistresses everywhere and this made the couple fight most of the time so she thought she might be an illegitimate daughter, so she was very happy deep down. Her disillusions were disrupted by Grandpa Delus voice who started by going direct to the main issue. He said, "Welcome everyone. I know everyone is wondering why they are here but others might already have guessed. At first, I didn't want to interfere in this matter but since Havila is now part of my family, I have to consider her feelings too. That's why I summoned all of you here to find out about the truth."
He put on a stern face and said, "Now, Mr Stans, I will start with you. Where is Havila's dad? did your sister ever tell you anything about him?" Mr Stans was already prepared for this question so he cleared his throat and said truthfully, " I don't know anything. My sister never disclosed anything she deemed private. I didn't even know her expected date of delivery. I only good a call with both the good and the bad news at once so i went to the hospital and took the child. My sister had already named her so i just adopted her as my daughter and it has been like that ever since..."
Grandpa Delus didn't let him finish and finished for him..."until two and a half years ago when your family betrayed her." Mr Stans was ashamed and said about the whole ordeal so he silently lowered his head and waited for any criticism to come his way because it is true his family wronged his niece. Grandpa DeLus also didn't not satisfy him and continued, " What about the property then? Were they not rightfully hers?" Mr Stans wiped the sweat on his forehead and said meekly, "Well, about that, she did tell me that just in case something happens to her, I'll have to transfer everything to Havila when she got married."
He put his cane down heavily and interrogated, "Well, why didn't you do that because she is already married? Or didn't you know that she is? I thought you were given the same inheritance by your parents, how come you still wanted your sister's properties?" Mr Stans did not know what to say either. If he were strong enough, he wouldn't have allowed his wife and daughter to squander everything under Havila's name. He had no choice but to tell the truth he had never shared before.
"My sister and I don't share the same mom and nobody knows anything about her mother's family. She inherited everything from her mom while when it came to our father's property, he shared everything equally between the two of us. She should have left the ones from dad's side for me since she already had enough from her mother. She didn't do that and i thought it was unfair and that is why i had to take them after her death. After all, it has been me who took care of her daughter since birth. I had to take something as payment.."
