Chapter 18 - This Is How It Ends?

Grayson seemed to recover from the injury. Sarah was with him at the hospital.

The letter from the father of Grayson that he received started a fire inside of Grayson. He was getting increasingly desperate while his internal thoughts were still struggling.

If he can hold up his mother's legacy one more time, he will be called a loser and a failure.

"Don't worry Grayson, I am with you here". Sarah said to Grayson, her voice calmed him down a little bit.

He wanted to open up his feelings to Sarah, but he was scared that she might reject him like every other person.

"You stay here with me". Grayson replies.

"Okay, but where will I stay?". Sarah asked; she tilted her head a little.

"Oh you can stay with me here, beside me". Grayson replied,

"Hey you are trying to hit on me". Sarah smirked.

"Nah Just joking". Grayson turned it down. He was very shy and under confident.

Despite the lighthearted exchange, Grayson couldn't shake the feeling that he wasn't good enough. The constant pressure to live up to his mother's legacy weighed heavily on him, and the fear of failure gnawed at his core. Deep down, he longed for acceptance and feared that revealing his vulnerabilities would only confirm his worst fears about himself.

The next day.

"Wake up Grayson, wake up". Sarah shouted beside Grayson's bed, pushing him.

"Yes, yes, what's up?". Grayson opened his eyes a little bit.

"Watch on TV…". Sarah screeched; the pain in her voice was evident.

"Important headlines for today." "According to reports from the prison, "a famous criminal and gang leader, Marcus, has managed to escape the prison."" The news reporter on TV reads the news.

A sudden sense of shock ran inside Grayson. His heart pounded out of his chest, and he found it difficult to breathe.

Sarah stood still, shocked and terrified. What was going to happen next? Grayson was in a mess that he could not get rid of.

Marcus's escape reignited old fears and memories that Grayson had tried hard to bury. The news was like a dark cloud looming over him, threatening to unravel the fragile stability he had managed to build. Grayson felt an overwhelming sense of dread, knowing that Marcus's freedom could mean a return to the chaos and danger that had once consumed his life.

Grayson gets a phone call when he gets discharged from the hospital.

"Boss, our enemies are regrouping. They are desperate and dangerous. We must stay away from them for a while now. I must increase your security and make other necessary arrangements," Clara said, her voice shaking.

Grayson didn't reply and ended the call. He probably agreed with what Clara said on the call.

Meanwhile, Lila was still busy figuring out the secret identity behind the offshore account. She traced its origin, and to her surprise, it was linked to "Blackwell, Holding,"" which was tied directly to Grayson's father.

"What? I must inform the boss," Lila said in a cracking voice, sweat spreading all over her face as she walked toward Grayson's office.

"Sir, there is something important. The offshore account ahh… I mean the account from where the sniper got paid. The account is linked to your father". Grayson listened to it calmly.

"I already knew it". He replied coldly.

"What? But why didn't you tell me before". Lila asked. She was confused and tense.

"I just needed you to confirm it so that we may not miss any loopholes., he replied. Grayson was now trying to act calculated and take every step with care.

Later in the evening…

A sudden attack hit Monarch Enterprises. It was not a physical attraction; rather, it was a cyberattack trying to steal important information from Monarch Enterprises.

"Boss, they have infiltrated through one of our smaller subsidiaries. Mia, the cybersecurity expert of Monarch Enterprises, tells Grayson.

"She added, I have managed to contain the breach, but we have lost some valuable trade secrets.""

"This is a calculated move. Find out who is behind it. We must act fast now"," Grayson said. His ability to remain calm shined there while his brain continuously thought about what he could do next.

Grayson decided that it was crucial to fortify their defenses and enhance their cybersecurity measures immediately. He called an emergency meeting with his top security team and instructed them to hire additional experts to conduct a thorough audit of their systems. Additionally, Grayson planned to reach out to trusted allies in the industry to gather intelligence and identify any potential collaborators of their adversaries.

"They aren't trying to destroy you overnight," Mia says. "They're bleeding you dry."

Later that day…

Emery secretly decides to meet Lila, demanding answers about Grayson, who he is, and what he is up to. Lila tries to avoid her and tells her a little bit about Grayson. Lila's hands trembled slightly as she spoke, her eyes darting around the room as if searching for an escape. She kept her voice steady but low, wary of revealing too much. Her nervous energy was palpable, betraying the inner conflict she felt about divulging any information.

Learning the whole truth, Emery questions her decision. She felt like a fool for leaving Grayson.

On the other hand, Mr. Richard tries to contact Grayson's father, trying to build ties with him so that he can destroy Grayson.

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend" is the encrypted message he sent to Grayson's father.

Mr. Richard holds a public event, inviting Grayson to the event so that he can humiliate and ruin him.

"Something is wrong. You must leave it". Sarah asked while Grayson was holding the invitation card.

"But I must go. Leaving the event might be a big humiliation for me and my company," Grayson replied. His instincts warned him, but he could not leave the event.

As Grayson arrives at the venue, Lila's voice crackles through his earpiece. "Something's wrong. Get out. NOW."

Before he can react, a gunshot rings out, and blood splatters across the floor.

Grayson collapses to the ground, his vision fading as chaos erupts around him.

"So this is how it ends…?"
