Chapter 2 - The Unholy Rites

What I saw there surprised me completely… There were splashes of blood on the wall and blood dropping to the floor from the ceiling. Due to the dim light, it wasn't quite obvious, but as I turned the light on, I saw the blood drops that fell on me. I screamed like hell and frightened everyone around me. My wife came running to me and asked if I was alright. I blacked out and all I heard were voices, asking if I was alright. I don't know what had gotten into me as I was quite the brave one in the house.

Maybe it was a delusion…maybe it was just my imagination…or maybe all of this was real and something wrong was really going on in there. It didn't affect me much as I told you that I was the strong one in there. I woke up after a while and found myself in my bed with my wife beside me.

At first, I tried not to act too worried as it can worry her too, but my mind was going crazy. I took a chill pill and went on to my friends' room to see if the blood was still there. To my surprise, the roof and the walls were crystal clear, and my friends were acting as if nothing happened in the first place.

I was shocked, and layers of fear were still running down my spine. After all, I went to my room and tried to rest. But I was feeling suffocated in my own room, I didn't know the reason, but their mere presence irritated me.

I decided to take a walk outside to get some fresh air and asked my wife to accompany me. We both went out and started walking on the old road that lead to an old abandoned house

I was still feeling restless and in the meanwhile, my wife also said that she heard some weird noises coming from the guests' room and when she entered there, all of them were sleeping soundly.

As we walked down the road, the only sound was the crunching of our footsteps on the gravel. The moon was covered by clouds, casting a bizarre shadow on the neighboring trees. Suddenly, a feeling of unease engulfed me and I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched

The road was taken over by the creepy white light of the full moon and you could clearly miles away. I turned over to look behind, but there was nothing except cold darkness. My wife noticed my behavior and asked me if I was ok.

I brushed it off by saying that I was just being paranoid, but deep down I knew something was not right. As we walked further, the sensation grew stronger and stronger but every time I looked behind me, there still was no one. I knew that there was something, lurking in the shadows, watching our every move

As we walked further down the road, we noticed smoke rising from a clearance in the woods, not far away, accompanied by a faint glow of light. Our curiosity got the better of us, and we decided to investigate. I felt uneasy at first but later I too agreed.

As we approached the source of the smoke, we could see the shadowy figures of 4 people, sitting around the fire, their faces illuminated with the flickering light of the small fire. They were holding hands and chanting in a language that sounded ancient and unfamiliar. We watched in disbelief as they continued performing their weird ritual, our hearts pounding with terror.

Their faces were not visible as they were wearing dark and big cloaks. They casually sped up and started going in circles. As they were moving, one of their member's cloak fell down. My eyes locked onto her face. She was the same friend that came to our home because there was a big dark patch on her face which was quite recognizable. But something was different about her- her eyes were dark and vacant, and her face was looking weirdly malevolent. I felt a cold shiver running down my spine and it didn't take us long enough to find out that all 4 of them were our friends that were guests at our home. I knew that we had to leave this place immediately. I grabbed my wife's hand and we turned to run back the way we came, our hearts almost about to come out of our chests

As we sprinted down the road, we could hear the sound of heavy footsteps pounding behind us. But I didn't dare look behind and kept on running. Finally, the sound of the footsteps slowly fainted away and we turned to look back, again nothing but cold darkness. My wife started crying and I held her and we both sat down to take a breath.

We were almost at our house, so we gathered our breath and ran again. As we reached the front gate of our house, I reached out to pull keys outta my pocket but my hands were trembling with fear. A while later, I got a hold of myself and unlocked the door. We entered the house, still shivering as we had witnessed a near-death experience, and on our minds, only one thing was running. "Where are they now???"

Suddenly we heard a shrill scream coming from the direction of their rooms. My wife begged me to not go there and just leave the house, but I didn't hesitate and went right to their room. I didn't bother giving a knock and opened the door with a bang and once again, what I saw there was the thing that I least expected and that was…
