Chapter 15 - PART 15: “THE FALL-OUT AND THE CHOICE”

After Rita's confession, Kwabena felt a strange mix of emotions. He didn't regret rejecting her,

but there was still a lingering unease that sat heavily in his chest. How was he supposed to go

about his daily life on campus now? How could he maintain the strong connection with Manda,

knowing that someone from his past had made her feelings so clear?

Kwabena knew he had to be careful. The last thing he wanted was to jeopardize what he and

Manda had worked so hard to build, especially after everything they'd been through. But he also

realized that he couldn't avoid this issue; he had to address it head-on.

The Guilt That Followed

The days after Rita's confession were filled with tension. On the surface, everything seemed fine.

He went about his classes, spent time with Manda, and pretended as though nothing had changed. But internally, Kwabena felt torn. Rita's confession had stirred something in him not in a romantic way, but more as a reminder of what could have been. And that nagging feeling of guilt stayed with him.

He hadn't expected her to confess. He hadn't expected to be faced with a reminder of his past crush. While Rita's feelings hadn't shaken his love for Manda, the fact that someone from his past had expressed interest in him made him question the way he had handled things.

The Conversation with Manda

One evening, as Kwabena and Manda sat together, the subject came up. Manda had noticed that Kwabena seemed distant, and her intuition told her something wasn't right.

"Kwabena, you've been a bit off these past few days," she said, her voice gentle but insistent. "Is everything okay?"

Kwabena hesitated. He didn't want to hurt her, didn't want to make her feel insecure. But he knew Manda could read him like an open book. She could tell when something was wrong.

"It's just… something happened," he began, his voice steady. "Rita came to me the other day and… she confessed her feelings for me."

Manda's eyes widened slightly, but her expression remained neutral. She didn't immediately react, giving him space to explain.

"I didn't want to hurt her, but I told her the truth. That I'm with you, and I'm in love with you. I just didn't expect her to bring up all these old feelings."

There was silence for a moment. Kwabena watched as Manda processed his words. He expected anger or frustration, but instead, she gave him a soft smile, her eyes filled with understanding.

"I know you, Kwabena," she said, her voice calm. "And I trust you. What happened with Rita doesn't change how I feel about us. But I just want to make sure we're both on the same page."

Kwabena felt a wave of relief wash over him. Manda wasn't angry. She wasn't accusing him of anything. She just wanted to ensure that their connection was as strong as it had been.

"We are on the same page," he reassured her, his hand gently holding hers. "You're the one I want. You're the one I came back for. And nothing not Rita or anything else is going to change

that."

The next day, Kwabena ran into Rita on campus. She was waiting for him outside the lecture hall, looking a little nervous. When she saw him, she quickly stood up, her hands clasped tightly in front of her.

"Kwabena, I didn't mean to make things awkward," Rita said, her voice apologetic. "I… I justneeded to tell you how I felt."

Kwabena took a deep breath, trying to remain calm.

"Rita, I'm glad you told me. But I've already made my choice. I'm in a relationship with Manda,

and that's where my heart is." He paused, his tone sincere but firm. "I respect you, Rita, but I can't give you anything more than that. I hope you understand."

Rita nodded, looking down at her feet.

"I do. I just wanted to know if there was any chance… but I get it now. I won't bother you

anymore, Kwabena."

There was a quiet, awkward moment before Kwabena gave her a reassuring smile.

"You'll be okay. You deserve someone who can give you everything you need."

With that, Rita nodded once more and walked away, leaving Kwabena feeling both relieved andconflicted. He had handled it the best way he knew how, but a part of him still felt sorry for Rita.

He had never meant to hurt her, but he had to prioritize his relationship with Manda.

Rekindling His Bond with Manda

After the conversation with Rita, Kwabena made it a point to spend even more quality time with Manda. He planned little surprises for her dates, thoughtful gestures, and moments that would remind them both of their connection.

One evening, as they sat on a quiet bench by the university's small garden, Kwabena looked at Manda with a soft smile.

"I don't want you to ever doubt me, Manda," he said, his voice full of sincerity. "You're the one I want. You're the one I'm going to marry. No one else matters."

Manda leaned into him, her head resting on his shoulder.

"I know," she whispered. "And I trust you, Kwabena. We've been through a lot, and I know that whatever happens, we'll make it work. Together."

Kwabena kissed the top of her head, feeling a renewed sense of commitment. No matter what happened with Rita or any challenges that came their way, Manda was his future. He would fight for that future, no matter what.

Moving Forward Together

With everything out in the open, Kwabena and Manda found their relationship stronger than before. They understood each other better now. The issues from the past were dealt with, and both of them were ready to move forward with confidence.

Kwabena had made his choice and that choice was Manda. It wasn't just about love. It was about trust, loyalty, and the deep connection they had built. And no matter what came their way, he knew they would face it together.
