Chapter 6 - The Funeral

Author's POV

But just before any of that, Richard had to be trained. "That was something Dorian and Mary fixed their attention on." Even though he was going to be behind the scenes, he still had to be trained for when he would be out and when he would be caught unprepared. So he was placed in actions and started training, started knowing more about the business, getting more intel and more information about everything his father had done, all the father years and all his companies, all the allocations, all the people who the father thought he trusted and were betraying him.

"Everything was all told to Richard as he was now placed in good training." Meanwhile, while all this was happening, the funeral was slowly getting ready and of course it was fixed to be two days after Richard had signed the documents. It soon became the day of the funeral of his family and of course he was going to be there but not called the son.

He dressed very well and of course wore the best suit ever. He looked different. "You would never believe that that was the same person who they had ditched and abandoned and saw as a nobody." He was the same person standing in front of Mary.

Mary could not help but open her mouth in awe and was so surprised. "Wow, I have never seen you look as good as you do right now. Really. Wealth fits you perfectly. They really used you to their advantage wherever you were staying before because I can't even imagine you having to pass through everything staying with those goddamn bloodsuckers," she said to him.

Richard laughed, adjusting his suit again. "It is all in the past now. This is the present. We should not think about the past anymore. I am going to stop thinking about that family because they don't matter to me. Let's go and find out who tried to kill my father."

"Of course the foolish person would come to the funeral and cry blood out trying to show his sympathy," Dorian said as Richard nodded. They soon got into the exquisite car and they drove up. Not just one, not two, but five different cars escorting Richard.

"And of course Richard was not yet close to used to this life at all." He was not used to the things that were going on. He was not used to the wealth and the good luck that came with these people. But he was still trying his best to get used to it as they got to the funeral.

Of course it was exquisite. It was huge, it was massive. "And of course everyone looked rich even though they were not showing it too much." You could easily see it in their aura, in the way they stared at each other, in the way they laughed at each other's words. You could tell that of course, they were very, very rich.

Everyone held their roses and each different flower they wanted to show their gratitude with. As they cried, Richard stood in the room as Mary stood in front of him like the boss, while he stood behind her like a guard, making sure to put on his specs so his weakness would not show.

"Because he had already cried all night." Combining what Anna did to him and what his parents had done. Even though they left him with so much wealth, they still betrayed him and threw him out. Made him look like he was a worthless child to them. That alone was more than enough to make him cry.

And of course, staring at their picture in front of him and their dead body in the coffin, he could not even hold the urge to cry. "So that was one of his reasons why he still had to cover his eyes." He looked at Mary as she looked at him and nodded the confidence that Mary gave as she walked into the place.

People began to whisper and some of them even bowed to her. "Why? The main person, the owner of everything, walked behind her like a bodyguard." And nobody even looked at him twice. Because of course he dressed just like a bodyguard. But only someone so sensitive would realize that even his suit was more expensive than that of Mary.

Mary walked in front and began to cry as she held onto her single rose. She dropped it where everyone had dropped theirs and walked towards Richard's father's coffin as Richard was also unable to hold himself and joined her, pretending to console her as she rested her head on his shoulder.

"They did so much for my life. They took me out from the gutter, took care of me, just because they wanted me to protect their son. I promise you I would take good care of him and I would make sure that he gets the best. Everything you wanted for him will come to pass and nothing will get in the way," Mary said to the grave, to the coffin, and to the lifeless body of Mr. Houston.

As Richard stepped forward, also dropping his own rose in condolence, and stared at his dad, he lifted his specs up a little and tears dripped down his cheek. "Even if you wanted to throw me out, even if you wanted to leave me in the gutters, I would have continued to cope and continued to believe that I was poor. But you shouldn't have left me. You shouldn't have left me the way you did. I still need you. I still need your advice. I still need you in my life now. You have left me and I have no one. I have no one to stay with me now. You have given me all the wealth in the world but I am alone. How do you expect me to cope?"

"Do not worry, I promise you I will find out who did this to you and they wouldn't pay. They would pay ten times what they did to you. All their families would pay for it," he said as Mary quickly rubbed him on the back, gently bringing him back to reality as he nodded, placing down his glass.

Just then, a man and his wife walked towards them and brought out his hands as Mary quickly collected it to show that she was the one in lead and not Richard as he looked away.

"Wow. For some weird reason, if I had not stared at him very well, I would have thought he was like a son to Mr. Houston. He looks so good, so well-off. He gives this rich vibe. Despite being your bodyguard, you really have a good way of using Mr. Holston's money," the man said as Dorian rushed towards Richard and whispered in his ear.

"This is your father's right-hand man and of course if Mary is not worthy and if the board members don't see her worthy enough to take over the company as the new CEO, he is the one in charge. He is the one to take everything from you and he is even the happiest at the moment that your father is dead. Funny enough, he doesn't even show it; instead, he's showing his gladness out and not his sadness. So definitely he was not the one who killed your dad. Don't rule him out," he said as Richard nodded and looked back at the man.

The man still refused to let go of Richard and instead forwarded a handshake for Richard too as he accepted it without thinking twice and then he smiled. "You can never be anything close to Mr. Holston. Your hands are too stiff and you have dug farmland too many times."

He said and let go of him before walking away as Richard stared at his hand, wondering what exactly he meant, and Mary could not help but chuckle. "Do not worry, there are a lot more of them. We will find out who did it even if it's not today, but memorize their faces. Your enemies are the only ones in this room aside from me and Dorian. Nobody else here cares about your father. All they want is the money your father left behind. I know for sure that whoever did it is in this room with us."

Mary insisted as they stared at everyone, but Richard did not even give a word of response and instead just clenched his hands in a tight fist, feeling so angry that he couldn't even just read through their minds and know who exactly did whatever they did to his father.

He just decided to stay silent. "I can't wait to get whoever did this," he muttered.

And just then, Anna's parents walked in. "The Calways. What the hell are they looking for?" he said, unable to hold in his emotions.

And of course, they did not see him when they first entered because they had to also greet other people. Mary did not really know much about the Calways, so she looked at Dorian, who rushed towards her and whispered to Richard, "The Calways have a contract with your dad and it has not yet been completed. You are meant to look into it. That is the reason why they are here, to pay their condolences to your father."

"Why? Why would they be here? If they are also part of this company, they will definitely be enemies of my father. If they have even a little hand in what happened to my father, I would make sure they don't leave to see the next morning," Richard said with determination.
