Chapter 8 - A threat

Author's POV

"At the moment, you shouldn't bother yourself about anything that has to do with Anna and Joe. You know how Anna can be. She just wants to be a distraction. You don't know if she was sent purposely by her parents to distract you from your real purpose, which is finding out what really happened to your parents. Don't look at her. Don't vent your anger on her. She does not deserve that time. She does not even deserve your time at all. You should focus on getting to the very core of what happened," Mary said to him as she held his hand, reassuring him.

He smiled back at her and nodded before standing up as they left the place. Meanwhile, Anna, in her seat, was unable to unravel why they were there, why he was there. Even though he had found himself a rich woman, his suit alone was a testament that a rich woman cannot just give him such a gift. Even when she gave him his most expensive suit, it still did not surpass this one. That alone worried her as she stared out of the window, only for her to see something that amazed her.

As Richard got in front of the car, one of the guards rushed to open the door while Mary just entered the front seat. But the attention they gave to Richard did not look as if Mary was the one in charge of all the wealth or that Mary was the one taking care of him. They even bowed to him as he entered, the way he sat inside the car alone. Anna was surprised. She knows when a CEO is taking charge, and this was it. It was just so obvious to her.

"How could she be so daft enough to have thought that he was leaping on a woman for help and he was still being assisted by somebody? What if he had made his money?" she muttered as Joe, who was sipping his wine, placed his glass down and fixed his attention on her.

"What do you mean it can't be? What happened?" he questioned as she quickly covered up with a fake smile.

"It's nothing. It's just... I don't understand. How is he like that? Even though he had met another woman, how is it possible that within a month he's able to do all that? It makes no sense at all," she said, still staring out through the transparent walls as she watched his car drive off.

Then something that even amused her happened. As his expensive car drove off, more than four to five different luxurious cars drove behind him, and for sure they all had the same name. "Horston," she saw as she pronounced it out and covered her mouth. "It can't be. What if Richard is actually rich? What if he was always rich from the start?" Anna asked Joe as Joe laughed.

"Don't make such a funny joke, okay? And I don't want you talking about him again. I am the one in your life. I am the one who matters to you. You shouldn't be talking about him. All your attention should be fixed on me. Do you understand?" she said.

Joe said as Anna hissed, "I am only accepting you because your father is going to invest in our company. That's it. Don't take yourself superior at all. Besides, not like I really loved you anyway. Let's not even go to that extent. I am only asking a simple question which I can ask anybody. Why is Richard looking rich? Why is he being escorted by enormous and expensive cars? I need to dig in and know what is happening."

And I said with determination. Meanwhile, Richard had taken it upon himself to investigate everything. It had been a few days as he had been running helter-skelter trying to understand why his family was murdered that night. He sat in his office the third night in a row as he continued investigating why Mary had already fallen asleep on the sofa. Not so far, he stood up and smiled as he covered her up before going back to his seat.

Just then the door opened, and it was Dorian who walked towards him with a letter in his hands. "I don't know, but this was brought here and we were told to hand it over to you directly. I don't really have any information, and it has no name on it either. So can you go through it and see if it is really for you?" he said as Richard looked at the letter for a while. It looked too mysterious. A plain envelope given to him meant that it was from someone who did not want to let him know of his or her identity.

"Did you at least see who delivered this letter?" he questioned as Dorian nodded. He collected it and threw it at a corner before motioning for Dorian to go out. He continued his research up until late in the night when he had finally retired and decided to take a rest. When his gaze went back to the letter he had thrown on the table, it suddenly brought his interest back.

He opened it and read through it only to see written boldly at the end of the letter was his name and even his father's name behind it, and a threat below it. "I have warned you before, but it seems you did not get the letter. I am warning you again, and I know you would get this particular one. Stop investigating or else you put yourself in more trouble. If you try to know any further, you are next."

Is this a threat?he wondered to himself ..if it's a threat then who knows of his secret identity? Things are now getting even more complicated than he expected.

There is more secret to his fathers death and everything that happened to him…he wasn't going to give up because of a letter instead this warning made him even more determined than ever before.

"I would find you..whoever you are and whatever you did!"
