In the Edolas royal palace, King Faust slammed his goblet onto the floor.
"What did you say? Someone's attacking the palace?!"
The kneeling guard, drenched in cold sweat, replied, "Attackers are assaulting the palace from all directions.
They're using powerful magic; the guards have been routed; they're approaching the palace center."
Faust slammed his hand on the armrest of his throne. "Why now?!"
Four captains commanded the royal knights. Panther Lily had taken most of them to hunt Fairy Tail, and Hughes, captain of the third squadron, had led troops to Extalia to execute the "god-slaying" plan.
The palace defenses were at their weakest.
The enemy attacking now… Faust suspected foul play.
And enemies wielding powerful magic… Faust quickly identified them.
Under his orders, Edolas's powerful magic had long been concentrated in the kingdom.
The attackers could only be Earthland's Fairy Tail; their motives were unclear.
The super-large Anima hadn't activated; he hadn't turned their comrades into magic crystals; they had no reason to attack!
Were they seeking revenge for Edolas Fairy Tail? Faust wouldn't believe such a preposterous idea.
With too many unanswered questions, Faust focused on the present.
"Inform Knightwalker and Sugarboy; have them stop the attackers. They mustn't approach the palace core."
The palace core contained the Anima, Dragon Lock Cannon, Dragon Knights, and other crucial magical tools; outsiders mustn't see them.
Even Faust had little confidence.
He'd seen Sugarboy's injuries; Knightwalker said he'd been defeated in a one-on-one battle.
She hadn't defeated the other Erza either; with so many more now, they were truly trying to overthrow the palace!
Byro entered. "Your Majesty, what should we do?"
Faust suddenly remembered something. "If it comes to it, we'll have to use that!"
Byro's face was drenched in sweat. "Your Majesty, please reconsider! Using that will destroy this world!"
Byro's words were dramatic but not wrong.
"That" was Edolas's ultimate weapon: [Dorma Anim], or, in Earthland terms, a Dragon Knight.
As the name suggests, it was a dragon-shaped powered armor controlled by a human. It contained anti-magic crystals, immune to all magic except Dragon Slayer magic.
Was Dragon Slayer magic too special in this world? Besides being immune to Anima, it could also turn magic crystals back into magical lifeforms. Having another weapon that could attack the Dragon Knight wasn't a big deal.
The Dragon Knight's terrifying aspect was its ability to absorb external magic; if it remained active, it could absorb all the world's magic.
Byro believed that would destroy the world.
Faust looked at the trembling Byro. "Then what's your solution?"
Byro said, "Your Majesty, we can use the previously discussed plan!"
Faust's pupils constricted. "Release him? Can you control him?"
Byro wiped his sweat, pulling out a small vial. "This potion, made with most of my magic, will partially control him."
Byro used Potion Magic; the vial was his tool. He could create potions with different effects by inputting magic.
Faust looked at Byro. "Do it."
Byro bowed and retreated. But with his back turned, he didn't see Faust's dark expression.
Faust hadn't abandoned the Dragon Knight; he considered both the released prisoner and the invaders as enemies to be eliminated.
Byro returned to the deepest part of the prison. "Well, have you thought about my proposal?"
The youth who looked exactly like Drake, Edolas Drake Arclight, said, "The choice isn't mine! Did you find a way to control me?"
Byro tossed the vial through the air vent. "Drink this."
Amidst the clanking of chains, Edolas Drake picked up the vial.
Shaking it, Edolas Drake said, "I knew it; only this could maintain so-called trust! But it doesn't matter."
He drank the potion.
Byro, watching through the air vent, smiled, then inserted a uniquely patterned key into the door's lock.
With a series of clicks, the iron door slowly opened.
Byro's first sight was the youth's crimson eyes; he felt a sense of suffocation.
He understood why the youth had drunk the potion so readily. He wasn't a coward begging for freedom; he hadn't agreed to his conditions for a second chance.
This youth was a demon, filled with hatred and rage; he was leaving prison to unleash his bloodlust.
Byro regretted releasing him, but it was done; he couldn't change it.
Edolas Drake didn't act like a madman; he even spoke humorously.
"Old man, you're not sending me to battle like this, are you?"
Byro adjusted his breathing. "Of course not. Come with me."
Byro led Edolas Drake to a treasure room.
It held the kingdom's top magical tools; only high-ranking individuals could choose one.
After Edolas Drake's arrest, his tools were returned here.
Edolas Drake was called a rising star because his body could hold two advanced magical tools' magic simultaneously.
This was Edolas's strongest talent; he had double the magic enhancement, unmatched by anyone.
His title, the kingdom's sword and shield, came from his two tools: the Opening Sword and the Guardian Shield.
Edolas Drake picked up his old partner, then carelessly threw the Guardian Shield to the ground.
"Useless thing!"
He had no one to protect.
Edolas Drake picked up a black-and-red longsword.
With both swords at his waist, he looked at Byro. "Tell me, who are the enemies?"
Seeing Edolas Drake's bloodthirsty smile, Byro broke out in a cold sweat.
