This, then, was the mission entrusted to Drake and his Earthland comrades.
Drake furrowed his brow; Mystogan had not revealed the entirety of his plan. Just as Drake was about to inquire further, Mystogan, anticipating Drake's question, preempted him.
"There is, however, an unforeseen development. The king has not only dispatched troops to pursue Fairy Tail but has also sent a contingent of royal knights to Extalia.
They are carrying weapons capable of transforming magical lifeforms into magic crystals; it appears that they intend to launch a full-scale war against the Exceeds."
Carla instinctively straightened up from Wendy's embrace. Thanks to Drake's prior disclosures, she was not as bewildered as she had been in the original storyline.
Simultaneously, Carla's feelings toward the Exceeds were not as complex. Although they shared a common ancestry, the Exceeds were, to Carla, merely strangers. She prioritized protecting Wendy's safety.
However, upon learning of the imminent danger facing her fellow Exceeds, her heart sank.
Wendy was the first to notice Carla's distress. "We must stop them!"
Carla looked up. "No! We shouldn't risk ourselves for strangers."
Drake sighed, crouching down to look at Carla. "Don't be stubborn! You're worried, aren't you?"
Carla turned her head, avoiding Drake's gaze.
Drake stood up. "Wendy, Natsu, Carla, and Happy are your comrades; please go to Extalia to save the Exceeds.
Lucy will go with you to help take care of them."
After seeing them nod, Drake turned to the others. "As for the rest of you, let's show Edolas what Fairy Tail is capable of!"
Everyone began to prepare, but Drake remained.
Drake looked at Mystogan. "You haven't revealed your entire plan, have you?
You must understand this country better than anyone; simply defeating the king and eliminating all magic won't truly save this country.
The people's fear and despair at losing magic won't disappear; the only outcome will be collapse."
In the original story, why did Mystogan make Panther Lily the hero who defeated him, and why did Natsu play the demon king, defeated by Mystogan in public?
It was to create a heroic image, a pillar for the people after losing their magic.
But the plot has changed; what will Mystogan do to truly save this country?
Mystogan chuckled. "You've seen through me."
Drake smiled. "Not just me; Erza and the others probably noticed too. Tell me, what are you planning?"
Mystogan said, "The second half of my plan is for me to become a tyrant; fear of my tyranny will outweigh the despair of losing magic.
Then a hero will appear, overthrowing me and leading the country to a new path."
Drake scoffed; that self-sacrificing attitude was unbelievable. But he knew Mystogan genuinely wanted to sacrifice himself for this country.
"I won't stop you! You never know what will happen until the end; we'll wait and see!"
Drake turned to leave, thinking. It seems he'll need to have the demon king, Igneel, make an appearance; Natsu won't mind.
Night fell; it was time for the operation.
Erza, in Heaven Wheel Armor, attacked first, using countless swords to destroy the palace gates. Alarms blared throughout the royal capital.

Gray created an iceberg, crushing the palace walls.
"A man must crush his enemies!"
Elfman, using Beast Soul: Beast Arm, sent guards flying.
"Such opponents are beneath my notice!" Evergreen followed Elfman, adjusting her glasses.
Elfman looked back. "Don't worry; I'll protect you!"
Evergreen blushed. "I don't need your protection; I'm a member of Raijin!"
If Happy were here, he'd probably say, "They're an item!"
Gajeel sat on the rubble, his arm turning into an iron club, sweeping away those who approached.
Guards stabbed Juvia, creating large holes, but no blood; only water.
