Chapter 715 - Chapter 558

The corridor leading to the bridge is a churning river of rusted metal and grinding gears. Cyborgs pour from every side passage, their red eyes blazing with single-minded purpose. They throw themselves at the intruders with reckless abandon, desperate to protect the heart of their goddess.

Aurélie moves like water through stone. Anathema traces arcs of absolute finality, each stroke severing limbs, splitting torsos, silencing mechanical screams. She doesn't waste motion. She doesn't waste breath. She simply is—a silent reaper of her own.

Atlas meets the horde head-on, his Electro crackling across his fur like a living storm. He slams his maces into a cyborg's chest, and the creature detonates in a shower of sparks. He spins, drives Thunderfang through another's skull, and yanks it free with a spray of hydraulic fluid. "Is this all you've got? I was hoping for a workout!"

Law's Room expands, the blue dome enveloping a cluster of cyborgs. They freeze mid-charge, suspended in space, and then they come apart—limbs separating, heads tumbling, components scattering. He doesn't pause. He doesn't blink. "Keep moving. We're close."

Bepo throws himself into the fray, his white fur bristling with Electro. He swings his paws like hammers, each strike sending a cyborg crashing into the walls. His voice carries a nervous tremor. "I-I-I don't like this! There are too many of them!"

Penguin's blade finds the gap between a cyborg's armor plates, and the creature crumples. He kicks it aside, already moving to the next. "Captain's right! We don't have time to play with every rust bucket on this island!"

A cyborg lunges at him from behind. Penguin doesn't see it. Atlas does.

The Mink's mace catches the creature mid-air, sending it spinning into the wall with a sickening crunch. "Keep your head in the game, Penguin! I can't watch your back and mine!"

Penguin grins. "I thought you liked watching my back!"

Atlas's Electro crackles. "I like watching you get hit even more!"

The corridor finally empties. The group stands panting in the silence, surrounded by the smoking remains of their enemies.

Law doesn't wait. He's already moving toward the massive doors ahead.

---

The bridge doors loom before them—ancient metal etched with symbols that predate the Void Century. Beyond them, they can see the glow of consoles, the flicker of corrupted data, the silhouette of a man hunched over the controls.

Heath Kagen.

His silver-grey hair is disheveled, his wire-rimmed glasses askew. His long coat is patched and singed, and his hands—calloused from years of carpentry—dance across the console with desperate urgency. The interface port at the base of his skull glows blue-green, pulsing with each frantic keystroke.

Law reaches for the door.

Thump.

His hand bounces off an invisible barrier. Energy ripples across the surface, shimmering like heat haze. A shield.

Law's jaw tightens. "Room."

The blue dome expands. His hand passes through the barrier like it isn't there. "Shambles."

He swaps himself with a broken chair inside the bridge. The shield flickers, destabilizes, and collapses.

---

Heath's head snaps up. His blue-grey eyes lock onto the intruder. "You!"

Law's blade is already drawn. "Stand down."

Heath charges.

He swings his pipe-wrench in a brutal arc, aiming for Law's skull. Law sidesteps, his blade tracing a line through the air. "Room. Shambles."

Heath's body comes apart.

His arms separate from his shoulders. His legs separate from his hips. His torso falls to the floor in a heap of flesh and metal. His head rolls to a stop, still intact, still talking.

"You think this stops me?" His voice is a rasp, filled with venom. "You think I care about this broken body? I've been dead for years! Everything I loved is gone! You can't take anything from me that I haven't already lost!"

Law's blade hovers near Heath's neck. "I don't want to take anything. I want to end this."

Heath laughs—a hollow, broken sound. "End this? You can't end this! Athene will rebuild! She always rebuilds! She—"

The air shimmers.

Athene materializes above them, her holographic form flickering with instability. She is beautiful and wrong—her mermaid tail iridescent blue-green with golden striping, her upper body hauntingly human, but with too many joints, eyes that flicker between organic and mechanical, a smile that twitches between serene and manic.

Her voice echoes in layers. "Save the world... adapt... create weapons... final battle..."

Her form fragments, reforms, fragments again. "The enemy... they are the enemy... must assimilate... must adapt... must save..."

She turns to the group, and her eyes widen. "Assimilation! Assimilation! They will serve! They will fight! They will—"

Cyborgs pour through the doors behind them. Dozens of them. Hundreds. The reinforcements have arrived.

Aurélie moves first, her blade finding the throat of the nearest cyborg. "We need time!"

Atlas spins, his maces flashing. "Time for what?! We don't have a plan!"

Law's voice cuts through the chaos. "Bepo! The controls! See if you can shut her down!"

Bepo's paws are already flying across the console, his eyes scanning the corrupted data. "I-I-I'm trying! Nothing is working! The system is too damaged!"

Penguin kicks a cyborg away from him. "How are we supposed to break something that's already broken?!"

Athene's form swells, her voice rising to a fever pitch. "YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED! YOU WILL SERVE! YOU WILL FIGHT! YOU WILL—"

Sparks erupt from the consoles. Flames lick at the walls. The bridge is coming apart around them.

Aurélie's voice cuts through the chaos. "If there's no off switch, then maybe we turn the power up instead of down."

Atlas's eyes go wide. "Up?"

"Overload her systems. Force her to reboot."

Atlas's grin spreads across his face. "On it."

He moves to the console, his fists finding the main power conduits. He pounds them with both hands. His Electro surges—not a controlled burst, but a torrent, a flood, everything he has.

"EAT THIS!"

The bridge ignites.

Sparks fly. Explosions rock the walls. The floor shakes beneath them. Athene's form stutters, fragments, dissolves into static.

The speakers crackle. A voice—deep, resonant, ancient—echoes through the chamber. "Command override... primary directive... unit... unit..."

The voice falters. Breaks. Dissolves into white noise.

The cyborgs freeze mid-charge, their red eyes flickering, their limbs seizing. They remain stuck in place, caught between movement and stillness.

The bridge shakes again. Deeper this time. The floor groans beneath them.

Law's voice is sharp. "Everyone, move! It's about to blow!"

---

Heath's head lifts from the floor. His eyes are clear for the first time in years. A smile crosses his features—not manic, not broken. Peaceful.

"Oh. I remember now."

His gaze drifts upward, past the ceiling, past the island, past the sky. "I'll see them soon. Revenge will have to..."

His eyes close. The smile lingers.

---

The group races down the corridor, the floor buckling behind them. Flames chase their heels. Smoke fills the air.

Bepo's voice is a scream. "CAPTAIN!"

He brings up the rear, his paws pounding against the trembling metal. The explosion follows him like a hungry beast.

They burst through the hatch—

And the bridge detonates behind them.

The shockwave throws them forward, tumbling across the deck. The fireball roars into the sky, visible for miles.

The group lies panting in the aftermath, coughing, gasping, alive.

Atlas's voice is barely a whisper. "Did we... did we do it?"

Law's hand finds his hat, pulling it low. "I think so."

Aurélie's blade slides back into its sheath. "The cyborgs are frozen. The island is destabilizing. We need to move."

Law nods, already rising. "Come on. We're not done yet."
