Chapter 3 - WARM HANDS PART 3

With Levi's permission, Jun set up a small room in a corner of the clinic; a roll-up floor bed, a tiny old wardrobe for his clothes (Levi bought him some clothes) and a blue mug of his own. That was all, but Jun was quite happy with his life. He was happy in that corner of the clinic.

Days, weeks and months passed quickly. It had been three months since Jun had arrived. At first he just cleaned up and washed the dishes: as time passed, Levi taught him how to prepare herbal concoctions, how to dress patients, how to clean surgical instruments. In this way, Jun could help Levi more and talk to him more. For 3 months Levi didn't speak unless he had to, he tried not to be intimate with Jun, but sometimes Jun could feel Levi's eyes on him, he couldn't figure out why, maybe he was looking at him so he wouldn't make a mistake.

The patients were very pleased with Jun. They loved Jun, joked with him, wanted him to meet their grandchildren, said he was very handsome, and at such times Levi would appear or gesture to Jun to come here.

Not many patients came to the clinic that day. So Levi invited Jun to his house upstairs to teach him how to cook. He had been doing this every once in a while for the past 3 months. He would call Jun to his house, teach him a few simple recipes, and then send him back to the clinic after he had eaten. Jun followed Levi upstairs again, the two of them went into the kitchen and prepared dinner with pasta, some meat and salad. Levi was just giving instructions as he prepared dinner, he sounded like a strict teacher but Jun was used to it, he had a thing for Levi but he didn't know what it was, well he did but he didn't think he was worthy of Levi, Levi should be with someone better, someone educated, he had been thinking about Levi every night for months but when he looked at himself he was realised how impossible .

By this time the table was ready, Levi had opened the last bottle of red wine and brought it to the table. He poured some wine into both of their glasses and they started to eat.

-'The girl in the blue dress who came to the clinic today, what did she want from you?' Levi asked directly.

Jun was surprised, Levi didn't usually talk at the table, and when the answer was delayed, Levi fixed his eyes on Jun.

-'Well,' Jun said. 'Do I just want to go out with her,' he asked.

He even remembers the colour of her dress, Jun thought.

-'So what did you say?' Levi asked.

-'I said I was busy,' Jun said.

-'You were smiling,' Levi said.

-'I have to be nice to patients,' said Jun.

-'You can go out with him if you want, I don't mind, I could run the clinic without you,' said Levi. The sentences were harsh, uncaring but angry.

-'I don't want to,' Jun said.

-'You're young, you'd like to hang out with someone,' Levi said.

-'I love being at the clinic, helping you,' Jun replied.

-'You'll regret it later,' Levi said.

Jun was a little encouraged,he thought it was a good time to ask Levi some questions.

-'And you said, why don't you ever go out with your friends, with your lover?'

-'I don't see my friends very often and I don't have a girlfriend,' Levi said.

-'Why?' Jun asked.

-'I don't know, maybe it's because I'm a hard,rude, reckless person,' Levi said.

-'You are a kind, thoughtful and loving person who likes to help others,' said Jun.

Levi was looking at him with suspicious eyes, no, it wasn't a suspicious look, it was the look of someone who wanted to be sure of what he was facing.

-'How would you know, Levi,' he was saying.

-'I've been watching you for 3 months, I know your every move, look, secret smile, embarrassment when patients compliment you,big eyes when you see chocolate sweets, kindness that shows how much you care about your patients, constantly feeding the mother cat that comes to the clinic every morning, constantly wanting to feed me delicious things since the day I arrived, Jun said.

Levi was filling his glass with wine again, this was his fourth glass.

He looked at Jun for a long time without saying anything.

-'It's late, you have to go now,' Levi said.

-'It's nice to chat like this sometimes,I hope we do it all the time, thank you for the food, good night,' said Jun and went back to her beautiful bed at the clinic. For some unknown reason, he felt a little relieved.

Levi, on the other hand, was on edge, and it bothered Levi that someone saw his true self, knew his inside. 'He said I should send the boy away, as soon as possible.'
