Chapter 2 - WARM HANDS PART 2

In the morning, Jun was sleeping soundly in one of the two patient beds in the clinic. Last night Levi had allowed him to stay here and shower and had even given him clean clothes. Jun woke up and pulled the soft duvet tightly over him and thought to himself, 'When was the last time I slept in a bed like this? I think it was 5 years ago when I helped the sailors, he said to himself.'

A few seconds later he heard footsteps approaching:

-'Jun, time for breakfast,' said Levi. And then he slowly walked away.

Jun didn't want to get up at all, the bed was warm and safe, but he was hungry, so he slowly got up, made the bed, washed his face and came to the breakfast prepared on the small table of the clinic. His eyes were wide open, his stomach was used to dry bread and water and sometimes sweet little cookies given to him by passers-by, but the breakfast table in front of him had enough food for Jun for a month.

- 'Sit down,' said Levi.

'This guy,' Jun said, 'is he rude or polite?

-'If you hadn't helped me yesterday, I'd probably be freezing my arse off.

-Levi just nodded and said it was fine.

Then they both continued eating their breakfast in silence.

Levi finished his breakfast and went to the medicine section of the clinic and came back with some small coloured pills. He left the pills next to Jun:

- 'When you finish your breakfast you should drink these, they will do your body good and you can stay here for a few days but then you should leave'.

-Jun said, 'Thank you.' He wanted to say something more, but Levi was already walking away from him, heading deeper into the clinic. 'Of course I should go,' Jun said, 'but where?

It had been 3 days since Jun came to the clinic. His body was slowly recovering, he was feeling better.Sometimes he helped Levi with the patients who came to the clinic, carried a few small boxes for him, lit the wood stove, washed the dishes, cleaned the place. He never wanted to leave here. For days he had been thinking in his head how he could stay here longer.

'I wonder if I should get sick,' he thought, 'then maybe the doctor won't want to send me away, don't be silly,' he thought, 'the man has already helped you, should I cry and beg? Maybe then he will pity me,' he thought, 'Ahhh no,' he said to himself, 'don't exaggerate, Jun.' But he didn't want to leave this place or Levi. It had been 3 days since he had arrived, Levi was cold but kind to him, distant but thoughtful and he loved Levi's behaviour, people on the street usually took pity on him and were nice to him and left, but Levi was strange.

'I don't want to go' she whispered as she looked out of the window at the cold wind outside, 'I don't want to go...'.

Dinner that day was soup, half a chicken and a chocolate cake.Jun had been eating so well since he arrived, his stomach was both surprised and happy. After they had eaten, they cleared the table and Levi began:

- 'You should go now.'

-'I know, but,' said Jun.

-Your body is better now, you can find a job to work outside, you can't stay here, said Levi.

-What if I help you at the clinic, Jun said. I'll do everything: cleaning, washing up, washing up, moving, I'll help the patients too.

- I don't earn enough to pay you a salary, said Levi.

-I don't want a salary, I just want to stay here, said Jun.

-You may not eat delicious food every day and I may not be kind every day, said Levi.

-It's okay, just let me stay here. -I don't want to be wrapped in a blanket again and wait hopelessly by the walls, I don't want to sleep cold every day with people's pitying looks and the few crumbs they graciously give me, said Jun.

-Levi was silent for a long time, he was thinking. 'OK' he finally said, 'but you will stay in a corner of the clinic and as long as you stay, you will not ask too many questions, you will only help me and the patients, and if you want to leave: you can leave at any time without notice.'
