Chapter 7 - Base Functions

Trying to train a Peasant, I was prompted with insufficient gold.

Galen remembered the warehouse-like room next door, which should be used to store resources, so he came to the warehouse and took a bag of gold coins from the spirit cloth bag and put it on the shelf.

The moment the money bag was placed on the shelf, a burst of light flashed, and the bag visibly shriveled.

When Galen returned to the previous room and reconnected to the main hall, he found that the amount of gold in the resource column had increased from zero to one hundred.

It seems that the ratio of gold coins in the human world to the base's gold is one to two.

Galen immediately issued an order to train a Peasant. The mainframe displayed a holographic image of a Peasant, followed by a countdown timer: 59 minutes and 59 seconds. It takes an hour to train a Peasant. I wonder how long it will take for the Barracks to train troops?

While waiting, Galen put half of the gold coins on his body into the warehouse. The Peasant's introduction included skills for collecting gold mines and lumber. In the future, the base's resources would mainly rely on Peasants collecting resources.

Looking at the 20,000 units of gold displayed in the resource column, Galen issued an order to continue producing 11 Peasants, directly filling the production queue.

During the arduous wait, a flash of light appeared in the room, and a figure walked out of the core room. This was a middle-aged man over 180cm tall, burly, wearing linen overalls and a red shirt, with an axe and a pickaxe hanging on his left and right waists, his skin slightly dark, with a dense brown beard on his chin, looking like he had experienced a lot.

As soon as this Peasant came out, he saw Galen sitting in the main hall and immediately saluted him: "Militia Captain Cliff salutes you, Commander." Hearing his words, Galen was stunned, surprised that this Peasant had intelligence. He thought that the units trained by the base would be very dull, very mechanical, and would only perform rigid actions according to orders.

Galen walked around him and asked him, "Cliff, can you introduce yourself?"

"Reporting to the Commander, I can mine, log, build houses, repair, and engage in simple combat. My position is Militia Captain, and I also provide simple military training. The Peasant brothers who come later will all be managed by me. Commander, please issue orders."

"If I want you to go mining, do you know where there are nearby mineral deposits?" Galen was very curious. In the game, there was always a gold mine directly next to the base at the beginning, but he chose the location of this base himself, not paying attention to the nearby mineral deposits, only choosing secrecy.

"Reporting to the Commander, according to the base core's scan, there are rich mineral veins in the mountains to our east. We can mine along the mountains to the north from our current location." As soon as Galen heard this, he immediately connected to the core and saw a circle of gold markers on the map, indicating its location on the eastern line of the Alterac Mountains.

"The Commander can remotely connect to the core to issue orders to us. Upgrading the main hall can expand the remote connection distance." Militia Captain Cliff then gave Galen another surprise.

Galen was originally worried about how to get to the base after tonight. After all, he didn't have many soundproof barrier scrolls prepared. Without the soundproof scrolls, with Omar and Varokal superior strength, he really had no way to sneak out of the camp without alarming them.

Now he could breathe a sigh of relief. He could still see his camp at the edge of the map, so this distance should be enough for him to remotely connect to the core.

Looking at Cliff in front of him, Galen issued him an order to log. Cliff immediately took out the axe from his waist and walked out of the main hall.

Galen followed him out and scanned the trees around the yard: "Cliff, when the other Peasants arrive later, clear all the trees within 500 meters around this main hall." He planned to clear the area to make room for building other buildings.

Closing his eyes, he checked the buildings that could be built through the connection: Barracks, Lumber Mill, Blacksmith, Farm, Altar of Kings, Watch Tower, and Arcane Vault. There was not enough lumber currently to build the next building.

After waiting in the main hall for three hours, constantly checking the introductions of various buildings, three more Peasants appeared during this time. Galen had them follow Cliff to log and listen to Cliff's command.

He looked at the resources required for the Barracks: 1600 units of gold and 600 units of lumber. Gold could be recharged, and lumber could only be collected by Peasants.

There was no great danger in this area except for trolls, so the Barracks could wait.Fortunately, the Lumber Mill didn't require lumber, and a Lumber Mill could be built currently. Galen chose to deploy a Lumber Mill near the forest, so that the Peasants wouldn't have to spend time transporting the lumber back to the Town Hall after cutting down trees.

After giving Cliff the order to build the Lumber Mill, Galen couldn't continue waiting here. He had been out for almost five hours, and he had to go back immediately, otherwise, when Omar and Varok woke up at dawn, Galen wouldn't be able to explain it, and prematurely exposing the base was not what Galen wanted.

Running wildly towards the camp, Galen discovered that the remote connection command that Cliff mentioned relied on the light sphere in his mind. After building the Town Hall, the light sphere didn't disappear but remained in Galen's mind. The light sphere in the main hall could be understood as a subsystem or clone of the light sphere in his mind.

According to the map scanned out by the base in his mind, Galen carefully avoided several raptor packs and slowed down as he approached the camp.

Observing the camp from a distance, he had to return to the tent immediately. In a while, they would be changing shifts. Once again, taking advantage of the gap when the two guards turned around, he darted into the camp from the blind spot in their vision and entered his tent.

Quietly breathing a sigh of relief, Galen carefully disposed of the soundproof magic arrays he had previously released on Omar and Varokal tents and lay down with peace of mind.

After working hard all night, running back and forth for dozens of kilometers, Galen still didn't feel sleepy. Connecting to the base's image through the light sphere in his mind, he found that there were 30 more units of lumber.

It took him about an hour to return to the camp from the base. Cliff was building the Barracks, and the remaining three Peasants were cutting down trees. Three people collecting 30 units of lumber in three hours meant that the collection speed should be 10 units per person per hour.

Galen guessed that after the Lumber Mill was built, he should be able to research technology through the Lumber Mill to speed up the Peasants' resource collection. He wondered how much it would increase after the research.

The main hall provided twelve units of food. A Peasant needed one unit of food. Now there were already five Peasants, and seven more Peasants could be trained.

Galen planned to sleep for a while first, and issue the order to build the Farm after waking up at dawn.
