Ember glared at him even though his fingers dug into her flesh from where he gripped her harshly at the sides of her cheeks.
"Crime?" She spat, "what crime do you speak of?" She finished with enough venom that she hoped conveyed how unfair she found her entire situation to be.
He smiled darkly, the motion stretching his scars taut. His grip tightened to the point Ember had to bite down on her tongue before she cried out in pain. If not for anything, even while she was at her lowest, she didn't want to show any sign of weakness.
"For the crime of looking like someone you should never dare to look like." He gritted back equally, hate swirling in his eyes, "for that crime alone I should remove the flesh of your face and have you parade yourself as a masquerade witch."
Ember scoffed. Now she was curious to know who else looked like her.
