Ember came to, drenched in sweat, dirt, and the uncertainty of the unknown swirling about her. She was in a dark room, her hands and feet bound by tight ropes, but she could hear voices.
Where was she? What was going to happen to her?
She had been missing for at least five hours. And with that knowledge came a familiar yet strange feeling of loneliness she had last felt eight years ago.
In fact, she didn't know about the feeling anymore until she started to feel it in that dark room. It was a listless, tormenting, raw, visceral feeling that opened her from the inside out. A feeling that highlighted her helplessness the same way a skilled artist would capture the details of his muse on a blank canvas.
