Chapter 276 - So It Turns Out Thanos Launched the Endgame War!

"Yes—this has to be it! That's right! No wonder something always felt off. So this is where the problem was!"

Tony Stark muttered nonstop, as if a knot in his mind had finally unraveled.

"This finally makes sense!"

"Stark, what on earth are you talking about?"

Thor was completely baffled by Tony's sudden realization and couldn't help but stare at him in confusion.

"Thor, do you remember when we talked about the principles of time travel before?"

Tony asked, though he clearly didn't expect an answer and immediately continued on his own.

"When we travel back to the past, that past becomes our future, and our original timeline becomes a new past."

"So changing things in the past can't possibly affect our present. That's exactly why the Avengers went back in time to collect the Stones instead of going back and killing Thanos as a baby."

"Now here's the problem—after collecting the Stones, why did the Avengers go back again and start the Endgame war?"

"Isn't that completely unnecessary? It makes absolutely no sense!"

In the past, no one had really questioned the Endgame war.

Everyone had simply accepted that after chopping off Thanos's head, the Avengers traveled through time and launched the final battle.

They defeated Thanos.

But once Tony Stark pointed it out, everyone instantly realized the flaw.

Indeed—that was the case!

Going back in time to kill Thanos was completely pointless!

Killing past Thanos couldn't change anything at all!Otherwise, they could've just killed baby Thanos. Why go through all that trouble?

So the truth was—

It wasn't the Avengers who launched the Endgame war.

It was Thanos who launched the Endgame war!

"That makes sense. Stark is right," Doctor Strange nodded heavily in agreement.

"Wait—so the Endgame war was actually completely avoidable?" Scott Lang exclaimed from the side. "All we had to do was keep an eye on the time machine!"

Then he couldn't help but complain,

"Seriously, why was something that important just left lying around like that? Shouldn't it have had layers of security, alarms, the highest-level defense systems? I didn't see any of that!"

"So…" Tony shrugged. "The most important lesson we got from this footage is to guard your valuables properly?"

Though his tone was still light, Tony Stark had genuinely engraved that lesson into his heart.

[Question: During the war for the Wakandan throne between Black Panther T'Challa and Killmonger Erik · Killmonger, which of the following tribes stood on Killmonger's side against T'Challa?]

A. Jabari TribeB. Mining TribeC. Border TribeD. Merchant Tribe

Before long, the system's prompt interrupted their discussion, and a new question appeared.

This question concerned Black Panther T'Challa.

And it revealed a rather brutal fact—

In the future, Wakanda would descend into civil unrest, erupting into a war over the throne.

Although no one yet knew the details, the question made it clear that multiple tribes were involved.

From earlier questions, everyone already knew Wakanda consisted of five tribes. Now at least two of them had joined the conflict, meaning this civil war was no small matter.

—Granted, the question only asked which tribe sided with Killmonger and opposed T'Challa, without mentioning the others.

But if one tribe stood against T'Challa, wouldn't another have to support him?

Otherwise, how could a war even happen?

No matter how powerful T'Challa was, one man couldn't overthrow an entire tribe.

"Erik Killmonger?"

T'Challa's brow furrowed deeply, wrinkling like an old chrysanthemum in late autumn.

"Who exactly… is this person?"

This name had already appeared in the previous question about who betrayed Wakanda by selling vibranium.

At the time, everyone had assumed that either he wasn't Wakandan, or he was an insignificant nobody.

And yet this very "nobody" would one day challenge T'Challa for the throne—and even gain the support of at least one tribe!

How could T'Challa remain calm?

"Killmonger… is that his nickname?" Scott Lang couldn't help but mutter. "Sounds pretty intimidating. And judging by what he did, the guy really is something."

"Of course he is," Doctor Strange chimed in. "He launched a coup."

"Something's not right."

T'Challa frowned again.

According to Wakandan tradition, anyone could challenge the reigning king—defeat him, and the throne was theirs.

But there was a prerequisite.

Only those of royal blood had the right to issue such a challenge.

Otherwise, the king would do nothing all day but fend off random challengers.

Some nobody off the street simply didn't qualify.

Yet this Killmonger could challenge him for the throne and gain tribal support—meaning he must possess royal blood.

So why had T'Challa never heard of him?

Who exactly was this man?

And another thing—

If the throne challenge was legitimate, the tribes only needed to witness it.Why would they get involved and turn it into a war?

Unless the loser refused to accept defeat?

But if that were the case, the losing side would be condemned by all tribes—there was no way any tribe would support them.

So how could it escalate into war?

What kind of "throne war" was this exactly?

Could it really be a traditional coup?

Did a tribe attempt to seize power?

But there was no need.

With the throne challenge tradition in place, any tribe could seize power legally. A coup was unnecessary.

All of this left T'Challa utterly perplexed.

"T'Challa, we don't know Wakanda very well," Captain America spoke up. "So this question mainly depends on your analysis."

"To be honest, my thoughts are a bit tangled too," T'Challa replied frankly. "Logically speaking, something like a 'war for the throne' shouldn't happen in Wakanda."

"Why?" Scott Lang asked curiously. "Are Wakandans just… extremely loyal?"

"It's our unique culture," T'Challa explained.

"Wakanda is made up of five tribes. Any tribe may challenge the king. Whoever defeats the king becomes the new ruler."

"Well… I didn't expect Wakanda to still preserve such an ancient tradition," Doctor Strange said in surprise.

It was hard to imagine that a modern nation would retain such a primitive and straightforward system.

"So basically, T'Challa," Tony Stark shook his head, incredulous, "as long as you can fight, you can be king?"

This wasn't ancient times, when kings had to lead armies into battle.

This was the modern era!

Even if wars still existed, modern warfare was nothing like ancient combat. No one fought with spears and swords anymore.

What use was being able to fight?

Ruling a nation required governance, not brute strength.

"It does sound strange when you put it that way," T'Challa nodded. "But… yes."

Tony Stark was speechless.

Wakanda truly lived up to its reputation as the poorest and most backward country in the world—like a civilization forgotten by time.

"Besides that," T'Challa continued, "regardless of who becomes king, the tribes themselves hold immense power and control many of Wakanda's key industries."

"Frankly speaking, there are many times when even the king must heed their will. Major decisions require unanimous tribal approval."

"That's why Wakandan tribes have no reason to start a war over the throne."

With this explanation, everyone gained a basic understanding of Wakanda's structure and traditions.

As T'Challa said, under such a system, there was no real incentive to fight over the throne.

The king didn't hold absolute power, and the position itself wasn't exactly comfortable.

Strong enough? You could become king. Not strong enough? You could be overthrown just as easily.

After more discussion, they still reached no conclusion.

They simply lacked enough information about this future "throne war" to analyze it meaningfully.

"Why don't we look at the options first?" Captain America suggested after some thought. "Maybe they'll give us a clue."

For now, that was the only option.

Under everyone's gaze, T'Challa began explaining the tribes listed.

"The Jabari Tribe—I already introduced them earlier. Though they never submitted to Wakanda, they live in seclusion in the mountains and don't interfere in Wakandan affairs."

"The Mining Tribe lives near the mountains and is responsible for extracting Wakanda's minerals. Their physical strength is the strongest in Wakanda."

What T'Challa didn't explicitly say was that those "minerals" mainly meant vibranium.

"The Border Tribe—you've heard of them too. They form Wakanda's first line of defense and are also pastoralists."

"The Merchant Tribe handles all Wakandan trade and is primarily composed of artisans and merchants."

He quickly finished introducing the four tribes.

But from these basic descriptions alone, no conclusion could be drawn.

There simply wasn't enough information.

"T'Challa," Captain America asked seriously, "among these tribes, is there one that holds a grudge against the royal family?"

After some thought, T'Challa nodded.

"Our royal family has had friction with several tribes—it's unavoidable. But there is one tribe that has long been dissatisfied with us."

Everyone's eyes lit up.

"The Border Tribe," T'Challa continued.

"Their leader's parents were killed by Klaue. They've always hoped the king would capture Klaue and bring him back to Wakanda. But thirty years have passed, and Klaue is still at large."

"Their leader has publicly expressed dissatisfaction with my father more than once."

"But!" T'Challa emphasized, "even so, I don't believe the Border Tribe would betray Wakanda. All Wakandan tribes deeply respect tradition."

"T'Challa," Thor interjected, "belief alone isn't enough. No matter how much you trust them, the fact remains—one tribe did turn against you."

"'Betrayal' is premature," T'Challa insisted. "We don't know what that war truly was."

"And their dissatisfaction with my father was justified. They did nothing wrong. That alone doesn't mean they'd oppose me."

"That's true," Thor nodded—then abruptly changed his tone. "But aside from that, do we have any other basis to judge?"

T'Challa fell silent.

They were completely in the dark about that future war. There was no other evidence to rely on.

"Then it's my turn to answer," Thor smiled at T'Challa. "For me, this basis is enough."

He turned to the big screen and gave his answer.

"I choose—the Border Tribe!"
