Chapter 1 - The bird leaves the nest

"Nothing in the world is easy to obtain, nothing in the world is mistakenly hard. Everything in the world holds some truth, some hold lies."

In the grand city known as 'Pillar City', there lives a boy, 6 years old named Fabel. Currently, he only lives with his mother, Ashly. Life was simple, his tiny world only having himself and his mother. In perspective, his family is unique as most families usually have both parents.

To live in the Pillar City, one must have a job but he has never seen his mother go out to work. Only seen throughout his life being with his mother, alone.

While at home, he'd read books and follow his mother's education system, never attending school and never meeting people outside to create bonds and friendship. He never really knew too much about his mother, only that she'd be both a figure to follow and a figure that took care of him.

One day, Fabel peered out the window staring at the buildings and the lights each building glowed with. He dreamed of the day he could walk out of his house and adventure into the world, exploring the unseen.

As he continued to glance to the most of his capabilities with the window, his mother called out to him.

"Fabel, come sit down at the table." Ashly spoke quietly as she started setting down plates of food on the table, each emitting a sheen at a glance, wafting with steam that filled the room.

Dashing over to the table excitedly, Fabel sat himself where he always does and waits for his mother to finish setting the food and utensils.

"Fabel, I have something to tell you." Ashly says as she looks into her son's eyes. Fabel, a 6 year old boy that has shiny black hair, slightly lengthy eye lashes, clean and shiny skin that glows when light shines on him, pupils that radiate a light brown color similar to his own mother's.

"It's time for you to join the best school this continent can produce. You're finally eligible to enroll at Resonance Academy, a place comparable to a city with powerhouses equivalent to the entire continent's forces combined."

"I've already got your admission slip ready to send you off." Ashly stated calmly as she continued to watch her son's reaction. The boy simply looked wide eyed as he received this news, news that he'd never thought would occur to him.

"When do I go?"

"Now." Ashly replied instantly, "I'm sorry if this is sudden but, it's finally time for this to happen and you'd have to be in Resonance Academy for a long time. Possibly longer than you have lived with me so far."

Hearing this Fabel was stunned. Be there? Longer than he known his own mother? Such a thing didn't seen to wrap around his small imagination as he didn't know what life would be like in this academy, nor did he understand how long that'd be.

"Also, it isn't just attending the academy, it's also living there. So you most likely won't even be able to see me while you're enrolled." Ashly listed out as she glanced at Fabel.

"You'll have to learn how to live alone and be independent. You can't only live with me, you have to learn how to live and what to live for by being outside in the world."

Fabel couldn't help but feel teary eyed as he heard to sad news of being independent. Who will take care of him? Who would he rely on in the future? He never imagined that he'd start being a grown up adult at the mere age of 6.

"Pack up everything you have, I'll take you to the academy and then we'll have to say our good byes." Ashly stood up after eating, take away the empty plates to clean.

As Ashly walked inside to the kitchen to clean the dishes, Fabel contemplated on what to take with him as he only had the bare necessities. His tiny backpack alone could carry everything he owned.

A little while later, Ashly drove Fabel to the academy, upon arrival though, Fabel couldn't help but let out a gasp.

Resonance Academy, reputable for it's power, finance, and positive reputation. The campus itself encompasses the size of multiple cities, displaying it's financial might of owning a massive amount of real estate and massive traffic of people coming and going, displaying its wordless reputation in the continent.

Fabel glanced left and right at the amount of people of similar height to him entering the academy.

Perhaps he can form bonds with these people? He glanced at the tall walls and buildings in the distance noting how far he had to tilt his head up just to see the very edge of said structures.

As both Ashly and Fabel walked to the booth where admission slips were processed, Fabel kept glancing at the people noticing that some of these people also walked hand in hand with people, assuming they were parents. He had personally never known the world outside of his little house and couldn't help but want to approach the others around him.

Oddly enough, he sensed someone looking intently in his direction, looking around he locked eyes with a small girl, similar to his height, brown hair in a pony tail, holding on to her father's hand with a backpack strapped onto her back.

With curiosity overflowing, he decided to speak up.

"Hello! my name is Fabel, what's yours?"

The girl continued to stare at the boy for a while even after his introduction, creating an awkward sensation overwhelming him.

He laughed nervously feeling that his first contact with someone resulted in him being ignored but luckily his mother had finished the procedures.

His mother pulled him along towards a group of people in the distance. She then knelt down to match his eye level with a slightly sad look on her face.

"Fabel, join the crowd over there. That's where you'll be guided to enter the academy and then you'll get to experience the life inside, meeting new people, seeing new sights, and growing up."

"You may ask why as a mother I would send you to the academy when I've already taught you more than enough for you to live well, but this academy is more than meets the eye."

Fabel hearing this couldn't help but become fearful and expectant of his future in this academy. Without saying a word he nodded showing that he understands everything so far.

"This academy is known for it's positive reputation not only because it helps teach kids and adults alike, but it also helps them grow stronger in the world we live in."

Feeling confused at these words Fabel couldn't help but glance towards the direction of the academy asking himself, adults too? I only see other people who're similar to me.

Ignoring Fabel's redirection of attention, Ashly continued,

"Resonance Academy is known to help people develop powers, make them stronger than those who lead normal lives to grow into powerhouses, people with money, those who can influence the world."

"You'll learn how to cultivate power, how to form connections, how to live in this world, and lastly how to survive in the future."

Ashly couldn't help but pause at this moment. Her life as a parent would end at this moment as she reflected on her life with her son. Seemingly normal and fulfilling as she had both happiness and sadness throughout her life.

Living in this world, it's normal that she couldn't help but worry for her own son's well-being, not knowing whether she had taught him enough before he had to leave.

"The world is filled with both monsters, evil people, and aliens from other worlds battling for dominance in our own world." She continued on after ensuring that Fabel had understood this piece of information,

"Now go on, join the crowd with the others, I'll see you when you graduate from here, no matter how many years it takes." She smiled with wet eyes, tears daring to leak but continued to be contained.

Fabel now departing from his mother's reach distancing himself into the crowd couldn't help but to also look back at his mother. Feeling as if he didn't understand her enough in this meager life of his. He had no idea how old his mom was, what she liked, what she disliked. Her life before he was born, and where his father was.

Feeling the tears flooding his eyes, he made no sounds as he continued to look back at her while walking towards the crowd. Silently crying with a small smile on his face trying to show that he was strong enough to walk on his own two legs alone.

From this day forward, he lived alone.
