Chapter 44 - Waiting

Since Tsunade affirmed the usefulness of the fish, the task of preparing study materials for the medical ninja apprentices was directly dumped onto Li Anshi by her.

Li Anshi didn't refuse this task.

On one hand, the Cloud ninjas had learned their lesson; the ones sent to harass were all Chunin and Genin, and they hadn't caused significant casualties to Konoha's ninjas.

On the other hand, Tsunade's medical ninja apprentices numbered only a dozen or so; seven or eight fish were enough for them to use for a day.

For Li Anshi, catching seven or eight fish wasn't a difficult task.

Of course, with this task as a cover, Li Anshi could also openly slack off.

Anyway, if there was any unusual movement from the Cloud side, Jonin Yamanaka would contact him immediately.

"Lord Anshi!"

Just as this thought flashed through Li Anshi's mind, the voice of Jonin Yamanaka Shin sounded in his heart.

"Talk about timely..."

Li Anshi hadn't expected Jonin Yamanaka to contact him at the very moment he thought of him.

Under normal circumstances, Yamanaka Shin wouldn't contact him for matters Jonin Nara could handle.

And if Yamanaka Shin did contact him, it meant something requiring the "commander's" decision had occurred, or there was some new development on the Cloud ninja front.

At that moment, with a thought, Li Anshi imbued his fishing rod with a wisp of chakra, which spread along the fishing line. Then, like a puppeteer controlling a puppet, the fishing line swiftly moved, hooking a fish in the river and pulling it up.

Splash, splash, splash...

After deftly unhooking the fish and placing it in the basket, Li Anshi tossed the fishing rod aside, picked up the basket, and with a few flickers, disappeared from the riverside.

...

"Lord Anshi."

When Li Anshi arrived at the tent with the fish basket, the four Jonin stationed at this camp were already waiting inside.

Even Tsunade was kneeling beside the main seat.

"Anshi, you're too slow, aren't you?"

The three Ino-Shika-Cho Jonin and Uchiha Jin nodded their greetings to Li Anshi, but Tsunade's face showed an impatient expression as she questioned him.

"Lady Tsunade, this is my fault."

Before Li Anshi could speak, Yamanaka Shin immediately admitted his error.

"I only informed Lord Anshi after everyone had arrived at the tent."

Tsk...

Tsunade clicked her tongue and said no more.

As the commander with the highest status on this battlefield, it would have been somewhat impolite to make Li Anshi arrive at the tent and wait for them.

Therefore, the others had no objection to Jonin Yamanaka Shin's actions.

"Alright, don't be angry, Tsunade."

After sitting down, Li Anshi pushed the fish basket in his hand towards Tsunade.

"Didn't I delay a little just to catch an extra fish for you?"

After placating Tsunade, Li Anshi turned to the others below.

"Jonin Yamanaka, tell us. What is the reason you called us for this meeting?"

"Yes, Lord Anshi."

Yamanaka Shin began, "Not long ago, the team escorting Lord Anshi's flying daggers was attacked by Cloud ninjas."

"In this attack, the supply escort team paid the price of one Chunin dead, one Chunin severely injured, and two Genin injured, repelling the attackers and capturing three Cloud Genin alive."

"However, the supply cart was damaged, and with the Chunin who attacked the supplies escaping, I believe information about the supplies we were transporting has already reached the Cloud side."

"Oh?"

Li Anshi raised an eyebrow. "My flying daggers?"

Due to the recent lack of major battles, this front didn't require many supplies.

The most recent supplies delivered were likely from the team he had asked Jonin Nara to arrange to return to Konoha to transport his flying daggers.

"Correct."

Nara Shikafuku nodded.

"Lord Anshi's flying daggers are a major deterrent for Konoha against the Cloud ninjas."

"Now that the Cloud side knows we've transported so many daggers for Lord Anshi, they will inevitably assume we intend to wipe them out completely."

"At this point, they will either launch a surprise attack on us before these daggers reach Lord Anshi's hands, completely destroying Lord Anshi's daggers to reduce his threat to them."

Speaking to this point, Nara Shikafuku paused.

If the Cloud ninjas weren't fools, they would almost certainly not choose to attack Konoha at this time.

Indeed, a suitable weapon could allow a ninja to fully utilize their strength.

However, with Lord Anshi's proficiency in the flying dagger secret technique, even if he used ordinary kunai instead of daggers, an average Jonin likely couldn't dodge them.

Perhaps only those with "Kage" level strength could possibly evade a kunai thrown by Lord Anshi using his flying dagger secret technique.

But could they dodge once or twice, or ten or eight times?

"Or, to prevent Lord Anshi from charging their ranks, the Cloud side will immediately request a truce with Konoha and sign a ceasefire agreement."

"I have already dispatched personnel to patrol the border. Once a Cloud envoy arrives, our mission here can be considered over."

"After signing the ceasefire agreement, we can also free up more manpower to support the other two battlefronts."

"Of course, we also know our own limitations. Even if all of us went to the Land of Earth, we probably wouldn't make much of a ripple on that battlefield."

"But you, Anshi, are different."

"As long as you make an appearance on the battlefield, whether it's the Land of Wind or the Land of Earth, they will likely be scrambling to sign a truce treaty with Konoha."

Everyone, including Tsunade, nodded in agreement with this point.

Indeed, if Li Anshi could reinforce the Land of Earth battlefield, he could establish a tremendous deterrent within at most three battles.

Until other ninja villages found a way to counter Li Anshi, they wouldn't rashly initiate hostilities with Konoha.

"Alright, then we shall wait here for now and see when the Cloud side will send an envoy to sue for peace."

Li Anshi had no objection to Nara Shikafuku's speculation.

He had a clear understanding of his own position.

Compared to the people of this ninja world, his knowledge allowed him to view everything from a higher perspective.

The gift from his Blue Star mother gave him the power to protect himself in this era.

However, he would not underestimate the wisdom of the people in the ninja world.

Sure enough, in less than half an hour, the ninja Nara Shikafuku had dispatched to the border sent back a message.

But...

"Lord Shikafuku, there's unusual movement from the Cloud side!"

The ninja knelt on one knee before the tent, reporting to the group.

"Oh? Have they sent an envoy?"

"No, we haven't seen any Cloud envoys."

"However, the main Cloud forces have withdrawn from the Land of Grass..."
