Upon learning that Iwagakure was sending ninjas to attack Konoha from another direction, the Konoha ninjas on this battlefield devised a plan. Beyond awaiting reinforcements from Konoha, they would deploy elite teams to intercept the enemy at the front and send squads to disrupt Iwagakure's supply lines.
Minato led his team to a critical mission: destroying the Kannabi Bridge, a vital supply route for Iwagakure.
His team's strength was formidable. Minato possessed Kage-level power, and his student Kakashi was a prodigy.
Of course, Kakashi couldn't compare to Tengen.
In the eyes of Konoha's ninjas, Kakashi paled beside Tengen, but his jōnin-level skill was undeniable.
Their team was exceptionally strong.
"Kakashi, Rin, Obito, you've been through much in this war. This mission is critical, and it's dangerous. Protect yourselves." Minato said to his three students.
"Understood, Minato-sensei." Kakashi, Rin, and Obito replied.
"Good. Let's move out." Minato said, nodding as they departed.
Many Konoha ninjas gathered and left to confront the Iwa ninjas, determined to thwart their plan.
Time passed slowly.
When Minato and his team reached the area, they split into two groups. Minato took one to engage the bulk of the Iwa forces.
Kakashi led the other, consisting of himself, Rin, and Obito, to destroy the Kannabi Bridge and sever Iwagakure's supply line.
But Kakashi's group encountered Iwa ninjas. In the ensuing battle, Nohara Rin was taken hostage.
Uchiha Obito wanted to rescue her immediately, but Kakashi disagreed, prioritizing the mission.
In the end, Obito went alone to save Rin, believing a ninja who didn't value comrades was worse than trash.
Kakashi eventually joined the rescue.
But…
"Kakashi, you became a jōnin, and I haven't given you a gift yet." Obito said, a faint smile on his face. "Rin, give my left eye to Kakashi. It's my gift to him. Thank you."
"Obito." Rin said, her voice trembling.
"Don't worry about me. I'm done for, half my body's crushed." Obito said. "Please, Rin."
"I understand." Rin said, tears streaming down as she carefully removed Obito's Sharingan.
She transplanted it into Kakashi's left eye, which had been blinded during Rin's rescue.
Obito was pinned under a massive boulder, half his body crushed beyond hope. Even Tsunade might not have been able to save him.
Moments later, the Sharingan was transplanted into Kakashi's left eye.
"Kakashi, take care of Rin." Obito said.
"I will." Kakashi promised.
"Go." Obito urged.
"Here!" Iwa ninjas spotted them.
"Obito, goodbye." Kakashi said, fleeing with Rin.
"It's good." Obito murmured, feeling his life slip away as darkness enveloped him.
Not long after, a figure with an odd, distorted body appeared, accompanied by an old man.
"An Uchiha?" The old man was Uchiha Madara, sustained by the Gedō Statue's power.
"Perhaps this is my last chance." Madara said, smiling faintly at Obito, trapped beneath the boulder.
"But that Tengen, why does he wield not only the Mangekyō but also Hashirama's power?" Madara mused darkly.
Though he rarely ventured out, he was aware of the ninja world's state, thanks to White Zetsu.
Thus, Madara knew of Tengen's feat of crushing Iwa ninjas with Wood Release.
"If only he'd work with me." Madara thought.
By his estimation, Tengen's power already rivaled his and Hashirama's at their peak, and Tengen was still young, with room to grow.
No one could predict his future.
If Tengen allied with Madara, achieving peace in the ninja world would be far easier.
But their past encounter showed Madara that Tengen shared his confidence in his own strength.
"Even without you, I'll achieve peace." Madara said, his gaze resolute, recalling the stone tablet in the Naka Shrine's basement, a relic of the Sage of the Six Paths.
"Infinite Tsukuyomi?" Madara's eyes gleamed with anticipation. "Zetsu, destroy this boulder and save the boy."
"Yes, Madara." White Zetsu nodded, shattering the rock and freeing Obito.
"Half his body's crushed, but we're close to my base. He's not dead yet, there's a chance." Madara said, assessing Obito. "Hashirama's cells might save him."
He nodded. "Zetsu, take him back."
"Of course." White Zetsu said, carrying Obito as they vanished.
Konoha's strategy against Iwagakure yielded some success, but at a heavy cost.
Among the losses was Uchiha Obito.
