BEFORE YOU READ

DEDICATION

" To the ashes that still remember they were once fire."

To the ones who stayed, even when it hurt,

You,

who stitched torn pages with silent prayers,

who believed in broken hearts learning to beat again,

who held your breath through betrayals,

and still wished for redemption.

This is for every soul

who knows that love is not soft,

it cuts, it bleeds,

but it also rebuilds,

one scar at a time.

For you,

who understands that graves don't just bury,

they yearn,

for truth, for justice, for a second chance.

Welcome to a war

where enemies remember love

a little too well.

PROLOGUE

न सर्वे मृताः श्मशाने शयन्ते।

केचित् हृदयेषु जीवन्मृताः भवन्ति॥

"Not all who are dead lie in cemeteries.

Some remain living dead within another's heart."

People think graves are built for the dead.

They're wrong.

Some graves breathe.

Some answer when you call their name.

Some sit across from you in courtrooms... wearing the face you once memorized with trembling hands.

I used to know every version of Aksh Raghuvanshi.

The boy who stole my coffee because he hated sugar.

The man who promised we'd never become strangers.

The fool who kissed my forehead as though forever was something humans could actually promise.

Now I know another version.

The one who looks at me as if loving me was the greatest mistake of his life.

Funny, isn't it?

We never buried each other.

We simply kept living.

Piece by piece.

Until everything we once were became a cemetery neither of us had the courage to leave.

People ask me when I stopped loving him.

I smile.

Because hatred has never frightened me.

Indifference would have.

Every accusation he throws at me sounds like a prayer spoken by someone who still remembers my name.

Every silence between us carries the weight of words we were too proud to say.

He believes I'm responsible for the ruins between us.

Maybe I believe the same about him.

Maybe that's why neither of us has won.

Not even after all these years.

Love doesn't disappear.

It decomposes.

Slowly.

Quietly.

Until all that's left is two people standing over its grave... yearning for the heartbeat they buried with their own hands.

And perhaps that's the cruelest part.

The body inside that grave...

...was never our love.

It was us.
