Chapter 9 - the proposal he never forgot

Episode 9: The Proposal He Never Forgot

Forced Marriage: I Hate That I Love You

By Zorry Sunblaze

It was morning, but Yin didn't want to get up—not yet. Not when she was wrapped in his arms. She buried her face deeper into his chest, inhaling that scent she couldn't get enough of. How did he always smell so good, even without a shower? But then again, he was the almighty Dong Jinye. Perfection was just... him.

Even though he'd hurt her more than once, she still wanted him. Every inch, every breath, every stare. But reality called—the kids needed to get ready for school. With a sigh of silent longing, she slipped out of the warm bed and padded to the children's room.

To her surprise, they were already up. Zhong, ever the thoughtful one, had neatly laid out their uniforms. He now sat calmly, watching his baby sister, Rannan, who was still curled up in dreamland. I watched them with a soft smile. The bond between the two warmed my heart—especially since they had different mothers. It didn't matter to them.

Yin leaned against the doorframe, her face aglow with a soft maternal pride. Zhong looked up and saw her.

"Good morning, Mommy," he said sweetly.

This precious child, once closed off in the world of autism, had bloomed since meeting Yin. He was trying. He was thriving. And he knew joy now.

She walked over and kissed the top of his head. "Good morning, sweetheart."

His little face lit up. Then she moved to kiss Rannan's cheek. The baby stirred. At just two years old, Rannan was already in school—adorable and intelligent, with soft little features that made you want to squish her.

After getting them both ready, Jinye had his driver take them to school. He'd taken the day off work.

Later that day, Yin stepped out of her room like a vision.

She wore a royal blue mermaid-cut gown, the fabric hugging her body like it had been made just for her. It shimmered with diamond-dust glitters, catching the light in a way that made her look like a goddess descending from the heavens. Her makeup was minimal but striking—subtle golden shimmer on her lids, glossy rose lips, and a hint of blush that emphasized her soft, youthful features. She was pretty, cute, and drop-dead gorgeous—all at once.

I just stood there gawking, invisible as always. I didn't know where they were going, and I desperately wanted to ask. But alas, I couldn't. Not my place, right?

"You look beautiful," Jinye said, standing just a few steps away.

His voice came out dreamy, like he couldn't believe what he was seeing. And honestly? Same. She gave a playful spin, and the gown fluttered with her curves like it was in love with her body. She was temptation in silk.

He reached for her waist, pulling her gently closer.

He looked like sin in a suit. A perfectly tailored three-piece in deep charcoal with subtle black embroidery—intimidating yet sleek. His features were devastating: jet-black hair slicked back just enough, his sharp jawline clean-shaven, and those piercing black eagle eyes that could freeze or melt you depending on the moment.

"You're not bad yourself," she said with a slight smile, letting him guide her to the car. His hand never left her waist. The driver was already waiting.

They arrived at one of the most exclusive five-star restaurants in the city. The kind where even breathing the air cost money. Chandeliers made of Swarovski crystals hung like stars in the lobby, and live classical music played from the grand piano near the bar.

A waiter—oddly dressed in a sleek black-and-white outfit with subtle cat ears and a matching tail—guided them to a private, reserved room.

And wow. The room was dripping in romance. Warm golden light, roses scattered on the floor, soft instrumental music playing from invisible speakers, and floor-to-ceiling windows offering a view of the city skyline. It wasn't a meeting room. It was a fantasy.

"This is... beautiful. But this doesn't look like a business meeting," Yin said, eyes narrowing slightly.

Jinye turned to her with that unreadable gaze. "That's because the meeting... is with you."

She froze. No expression. Nothing gave her away.

Then she turned to him, calm but curious. "Why?"

He smiled, almost sheepishly. "I'll tell you later."

She sat down, letting the moment pass. Soon, performers entered the room—actors dressed in formal wear, reenacting a story of love, pain, forgiveness... redemption. It wasn't hard to see what this was: his silent apology. His desperate attempt to explain, to ask for another chance without saying the words.

Then came a soft melody. A love song. It wasn't famous, but it felt like a promise. The lyrics were in another language, but the emotion in it—I'll stay, no matter what—was crystal clear.

After the performance, the room went dark.

And then... a spotlight.

Dong Jinye stood alone in the center, kneeling on one knee.

My invisible hands clutched my invisible chest. Oh my god. Was this really happening?

"Yin Su Ran," he began, his voice thick with emotion. "My wife. The only woman I've ever truly loved. Please... marry me again."

She stood frozen. Stunned. A mix of confusion, disbelief, and raw emotion flashed across her face. Slowly, she raised her hand.

He opened a small red velvet box with golden embroidery. And even I gasped.

The ring wasn't just diamond. It wasn't just gold.

It was a masterpiece.

A rare violet sapphire sat in the center, surrounded by a halo of black diamonds, all set in a twisted platinum-gold band shaped like blooming roses. This wasn't a ring. It was a legend.

He slid it onto her finger and gently kissed her hand.

"Happy anniversary," he whispered.

Her eyes welled up. He remembered. Despite everything—the guilt, the silence, the pain—he remembered.

She didn't wait for another word. She pulled him to his feet and kissed him.

Hard.

And in that kiss, everything they never said finally spoke.
