c93: Vegeta and Paranti
"Paranti, how did your belly get bigger?" Bulma asked with a raised eyebrow as she glanced at Paranti's slightly rounded midsection. The last time they'd met, Paranti didn't even seem interested in dating anyone, much less expecting a child.
"This lady finally found someone she liked, and it took quite some effort to win him over." Paranti smirked proudly, resting a hand on her hip.
"Wait… isn't the guy you like named Vegeta?" Bulma asked, recalling her knowledge of future events particularly from the timeline where Trunks revealed his parentage.
"How'd you know that?" Paranti asked, surprised.
"I've met him a few times," Bulma replied, not elaborating on her connection to the alternate future where she and Vegeta were together. Still, it surprised her that, even in this timeline, Vegeta and Paranti had formed a bond.
"So? He's still no match for Li Xu." Paranti grinned, clearly pleased with her own romantic conquest.
"What kind of taste is that? He's not even close to my husband in strength or personality," Bulma said flatly.
"Hmph, the Vegeta from my universe is better," Paranti replied with a snort, sounding like she was fiercely defending her own territory.
"Tch, then why isn't he here with you? You probably haven't completely won him over yet," Bulma said knowingly. She'd spent years around Vegeta and was well aware of how distant and standoffish he could be, especially early on.
Paranti's expression tensed for a moment before she barked out: "I'll win him over, just give me time. This lady doesn't give up!" Her defensive stance and flared temper were almost comedic like a mother bear protecting her cub.
"I'm not going to argue with a pregnant woman," Bulma said, rolling her eyes.
Just then, Li Xu walked in, carrying a fruit plate filled with unusually radiant produce. The fruits glowed with a light red hue and emitted a faint, otherworldly aura clearly not of Earth origin.
"You two still bickering?" he asked, placing the plate down. These were the latest fruits from the Tree of Might, grown after Li Xu's breakthrough into Super Saiyan 3 during his recent cosmic cultivation.
"Bulma, here try one!" Li Xu said as he tossed her a fruit and grabbed one for himself. These latest Spirit Tree fruits boosted combat power by 100,000 each more potent than before, though the yield per cycle had dropped to just over a hundred.
"Hey! You're just going to ignore your guest?" Paranti said indignantly.
"You shouldn't eat this fruit," Bulma interjected quickly before Li Xu could respond. "You haven't trained, and your body can't handle the power surge. And in your condition, it's especially dangerous."
"Why not? I want to try it too!" Paranti pouted, clearly frustrated.
"Because pregnant women shouldn't take massive ki boosters," Bulma added without missing a beat, inventing a more palatable excuse.
At the mention of pregnancy limitations, Paranti instantly dropped her complaints. "Fine. I won't eat it." She crossed her arms with a slight pout.
"So, how did you even meet Vegeta?" Bulma asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
"I was on my way home one evening when a gang tried to mug me. I didn't have any bodyguards with me that day. Then bam Vegeta just appeared out of nowhere and took them all out," Paranti recounted with sparkles in her eyes.
"Vegeta? Having a sense of justice?" Bulma said skeptically, arching a brow. It didn't match the Saiyan prince she knew.
"He's a bit cold, but he's not a bad person," Paranti replied defensively, a hint of a blush coloring her cheeks.
What she didn't realize was that Vegeta had intervened because the gang had annoyed him, not out of any noble intention to save her. Still, the timing had worked in Paranti's favor and ever since, she'd clung to Vegeta, convinced it was destiny.
"Please, he's still no match for Li Xu," Bulma scoffed, arms crossed.
"Bulma, say one more bad thing about Vegeta and I swear I'll tell Li Xu everything about your embarrassing childhood!" Paranti blurted, puffing out her cheeks.
Li Xu's eyes sparkled with interest. "Oh? Now that I'd like to hear." He chuckled, imagining a young, troublemaking Bulma.
"Paranti, don't forget I've got pictures of you drooling over pretty boys in high school. Push me and I'll show everyone," Bulma shot back without hesitation.
"I also have a recording of you talking in your sleep about finding your Prince Charming!" Paranti snapped, smirking as Bulma's face flushed red.
Li Xu watched the two women bicker, not expecting these two brilliant minds to be so sharp-tongued. For a moment, he forgot they were both scientists and not fighters.
In the blink of an eye, the three-year period that Trunks had warned them about finally came to an end.
A month earlier, Li Xu had returned from the world of the Gods of Destruction, bringing Li Yi and Bulla with him. After undergoing rigorous training with Whis, they had learned the basics of divine energy manipulation and ultra-speed movement. Now, it was up to them to build on that foundation through real-world combat experience.
"Husband, do you really think the androids will appear?" Bulma asked with a trace of concern in her voice. Her combat strength had now surpassed seven million far beyond any Earthling norm and all of it was thanks to Li Xu's cultivation techniques and the fruit of the Spirit Tree.
Li Xu had enhanced her potential using divine ki techniques and fed her spirit fruit that boosted her power exponentially over the years. She had never trained in the traditional sense, but her ki control and stamina had improved significantly.
"We'll find out soon enough," Li Xu said calmly. With his current strength, he no longer feared anything short of Beerus or Zeno. Even if Majin Buu appeared ahead of schedule, he had absolute confidence in protecting his family.
"Dad, we're going too!" Li Yi and Bulla ran over excitedly, both wearing new battle gear designed by Bulma. Their auras flared gently steady and potent.
"Alright," Li Xu nodded. Though still young, the twins had potential beyond most adult Saiyans. Their energy output had surpassed the average elite by a wide margin, though they still lacked real combat experience.
"Li Yi, Bulla if it gets dangerous, make sure to retreat," Bulma said with a mother's worry. She still remembered Trunks' grim future, where even Goku and Vegeta had perished at the hands of the androids. Though this timeline was different, she couldn't shake the feeling of unease.
"Bulma, don't you trust your husband?" Li Xu smiled, teasing her.
"Mom, with Dad here, there's no way those androids can win," Bulla chimed in confidently. In her eyes, Li Xu was stronger than even the gods.
"Mom, men don't run from battles," Li Yi added with surprising maturity.
"You're both just kids. Don't act like grown men already!" Bulma scolded lightly, clearly annoyed they'd taken Li Xu's side so quickly.
"Haha!" Li Xu laughed heartily at Bulma's expression, her cheeks puffed out in frustration.
His deep, amused voice only made Bulma more annoyed. She began thumping him with her little pink fists in mock frustration, and Li Xu pulled her into a warm embrace.
Embarrassed by the kids watching, Bulma blushed hard and quickly stepped away.
After the playful moment, the four of them soared through the sky, heading southwest. According to Trunks' description, that was where the androids were set to appear.
Ten minutes later, they spotted a rocky island on the horizon, just as Trunks had warned. It was eerily quiet.
"Dad, look it's Uncle Goku and the others!" Li Yi pointed to a ridge where a group of familiar warriors stood.
The family landed nearby. From the vantage point atop the cliff, the entire island and surrounding ocean were visible.
"Li Xu, long time no see!" Son Goku greeted cheerfully, waving. He looked calm, but everyone could sense he was ready for battle.
Standing with him were Vegeta, Piccolo, Krillin, Tien Shinhan, and Gohan. Yamcha was notably absent he had stopped training seriously after the Namek Saga and likely realized he wouldn't stand a chance in a battle of this scale.
"Hmph, I can take care of the androids by myself," Vegeta said with arms crossed, radiating confidence. Over the past three years, he had relentlessly trained, driven by pride and a need to surpass Goku and Li Xu.
Li Xu offered no reply. He knew Vegeta's ego wouldn't let him listen anyway.
"Li Yi and Bulla must be crazy strong now," Krillin said, remembering how the two children had already shown power above his during their trip to Namek.
"Of course, but we've been working hard," Bulla replied humbly, smiling with pride.
