Chapter 6 - Arrival and Anticipation

The leader, whose name was Ryker, leaned back in his chair and steepled his fingers together. "The monster we're dealing with is a Wyrmkin, a creature born from the darkest depths of the forest. It's been terrorizing a small village on the outskirts of our territory, burning homes and crops, and slaughtering anyone who gets in its way."

Wayne's eyes widened as he listened to Ryker's description. He had heard stories of Wyrmkin, creatures said to be born from the very essence of the forest itself. They were powerful, ruthless, and nearly impossible to kill.

Ryker continued, "We've tried to send our own warriors to deal with the problem, but none of them have returned. We need someone with your... skills to take on this job."

Wayne nodded, his mind racing with the challenge ahead. "I accept the job. What's the pay?"

Ryker smiled, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "The pay is substantial. We'll give you 10,000 gold pieces if you can bring back proof of the Wyrmkin's demise."

Wayne's eyes widened at the mention of the gold pieces. It was a small fortune, enough to set him up for life. He nodded, his mind made up. "I'll take the job. When do I leave?"

Ryker leaned forward, his expression serious. "You leave now. The village is under siege, and we need someone to put an end to this as soon as possible. You'll be given a map with the location of the village and any other information we have on the Wyrmkin."

Wayne stood up, his heart pounding with excitement. He was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. "I'm ready. Give me the map and any other information you have. I'll take care of the Wyrmkin."

Ryker nodded, handing Wayne a rolled-up parchment with the map and a small pouch containing a few potions and a vial of holy water. "Be careful, Wayne. The Wyrmkin is no ordinary creature. It's powerful, and it won't go down without a fight."

Wayne nodded, taking the parchment and the pouch. "I'll be careful. I'll bring back proof of the Wyrmkin's demise, or I won't come back at all."

With that, Wayne set off towards the village, ready to face whatever lay ahead. The journey would be long and treacherous, but he was determined to succeed. The fate of the village, and his own reputation, depended on it.As Wayne journeyed to the village, he couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and trepidation. He had heard stories of Wyrmkin, creatures said to be born from the very essence of the forest itself. They were powerful, ruthless, and nearly impossible to kill.

After several hours of walking, Wayne finally arrived at the village. It was surrounded by a makeshift wall, constructed from wooden palisades and mud. The villagers were huddled together, fearful and anxious.

Wayne approached the village elder, a frail old man with a look of desperation in his eyes. "Thank the gods you've come," the elder said, his voice shaking. "We've been plagued by this monster for weeks. It's burned our crops, killed our livestock, and slaughtered anyone who ventures out alone."

Wayne nodded sympathetically. "I'll do everything I can to help you. Can you tell me more about the Wyrmkin's habits? When does it usually attack?"

The elder thought for a moment. "It seems to attack at night, under the light of the full moon. It's as if it's drawn to the moon's power."

Wayne nodded, his mind racing with strategies. "I'll prepare for tonight's attack. Can you show me where the Wyrmkin usually appears?"

The elder nodded, leading Wayne to a nearby hill overlooking the village. From this vantage point, Wayne could see the surrounding countryside, the rolling hills and dense forests stretching out as far as the eye could see.

As the sun began to set, Wayne prepared for battle. He strapped on his armor, checked his sword, and positioned himself on the hill, waiting for the Wyrmkin to appear.

As the moon rose high in the sky, Wayne saw a dark shape emerging from the forest. The Wyrmkin was massive, its body a twisted mass of scales and claws. It let out a deafening roar, and Wayne felt the ground shake beneath his feet.

The battle was about to begin. Wayne steeled himself, gripping his sword tightly. He was ready to face the Wyrmkin, and put an end to its reign of terror once and for all.
