Since the beginning of the student council president election in Shuhi's school started, chaos began with it too. One after another. Akari's astonishing loss in the gamble with the student council president Hiroshi, the mess of the entire grading system by Sota and now inside the darkened chamber of the old building, violence and injustice was taking place.
"It's him…he did it." Shuhi was struggling to talk.
Immediately after hearing that, two of the boys sprinted towards Hiroshi and held both of his arms. Some students who came later didn't get involved and rather started to video the scene.
"Now that's enough! You have started misusing your power! How much have you fallen?" one of them said.
The girls rushed towards Shuhi and gently helped her to get up.
"Hey, you got it wrong! Ondo is the one bullying that girl. Hey you, say it." Hiroshi struggled to get out of those two boy's grasp.
The two girls helped Shuhi to reach closer to Hiroshi, "You scum! Look at…what you did. Ondo kun tried to save me! Yet you…" Shuhi said.
Ondo's friends who were lying on the ground just a moment ago didn't let this chance go. They all pointed at Hiroshi together, "It's him. He beat us all."
After hearing that, some other students rushed there and held Hiroshi tight. The others helped the students who had fallen on the ground.
"It's a lie! It's Ondo's doing! Hey you, stop lying. Tell the truth!" Hiroshi said it to Shuhi while struggling to get free. But Shuhi didn't say anything. Turning back, she started moving to get out with the help of the girls.
_____
The next day, Shuhi was again in school, sitting on her desk. Bandages covered her body. Her right hand was on an arm sling. Small bandgages on her face. Only her left eye was visible due to the bandage cover.
"Yo guys," Shuhi was saying in her mind, "We are back at school. The doctor said I would be okay but no hard physical work for now. As a result of yesterday's events, Hiroshi got suspended. The scenario made it look to others that Ondo kun and his friends tried to protect me from Hiroshi senpai but they all got beaten up".
Shuhi then looked at the classroom's door, thinking about the class on the side. Ondo's class.
"For this bravery, Ondo kun earned the fame of a hero and got voted as the next student council president."
She got up and started going towards the entrance of the room to go out. Each move of her crutch on the tile floor made a thwack sound. Suddenly, Minoko came by from the hallways. Looking at Shuhi, she was baffled and shocked to her core,
"Shuhi chan! What's the meaning of this?" Minoko asked, coming closer to Shuhi.
"Hiroshi senpai," Shuhi said clearly.
"That mo**********! How dare he hurt my friend!"
"Wait, you loved him a lot, right?"
"Not anymore! Look at what he did to you! So exactly what's the story?"
"A lot happened. You missed it since you ditched school yesterday. Ask anyone in the school and they will tell you." Shuhi said.
Minoko at first hesitated and didn't want to take ignorance as an answer. Then she realized she also told the same way a few days ago. When Shuhi asked Minoko about the election faces. That sudden memory made her shut.
"I know you are thinking," Shuhi said, "This is like karma, don't you think?"
Shuhi's words and expression made Minoko realize that she didn't want to talk about the injuries. Minoko also respected her friend's choice.
"Okay, I am going to the council room. Later," Shuhi turned around.
"Wait, you need help? I can give you a hand." Minoko said.
"Nah, I'm fine, really."
Slowly slowly she started moving by putting weight on her crutch. It took way longer than usual for her to reach in front of the council room door. Shuhi knocked on it thrice.
"The door is open. Come in," a female voice answered.
Shuhi pressed the door open and entered. Inside, students were moving in all directions. Since it was so sudden of Ondo becoming the president, many of Hiroshi's belongings were being moved and replaced with new ones.
Ondo was sitting on the president's chair. Seeing Shuhi move towards him slowly, he got up and took a straight posture.
"Wait…why did you come here? You should be in hospital now!" These were Ondo's first words after seeing Shuhi. Ondo said in a low voice so that others wouldn't hear.
Shuhi reached in front of the desk and stopped. The cold stare of her screamed what she wanted. It didn't take much time for Ondo to understand.
"Guys, it's enough for today. You did a lot. You can go now," Ondo declared to the other students.
The students who were moving constantly stopped. A smile appeared on their face. After the heavy lifting, finally they got released. One of the boys approached Ondo,
"Senpai, are you sure? What about these boxes?" he asked.
"We have days left. Take it slowly," Ondo said with a smile.
The boy then left. He was the last few of the students to leave and the room became empty. Only Shuhi and Ondo remained.
Ondo slowly got up from his chair and faced Shuhi
"I always wanted good for you," Shuhi said and raised her arm towards Ondo and touched his cheek.
"Eh…" Ondo got caught off guard as Shuhi gently touched his cheek but he didn't say anything. Then with the same hand, a slap landed on his face. It was weak but it had enough force to turn Ondo's head a little. He remained like that for a moment and didn't even try to look back at her face.
"But look at what that cost me!" Shuhi's next response was filled with anger and hatred.
"My entire body…I am basically half paralyzed…" she coughed a few times making her move out of order that caused her pain. Her crutch fell from her grasp and she was about to fall.
"Wait no, don't push yourself…" Ondo grabbed Shuhi by her waist. He looked in the room to find some place for her to sit.
"Here, sit," Ondo let her sit on a chair from the middle table.
"And the middle school event…I made that up." Sushi said clearly on Ondo's face.
"It was just…theory. I didn't have any proof. I just wanted to make you believe it and then the rest followed…"
Ondo didn't question much. He tried to connect the dots before as to why Shuhi did it and now it was clear to him.
"Even though I hurt you, you saved me from being the culprit yesterday. Crafted my way of being the president. Like, I…I am forever indebted to you." Ondo said and his tone carried emotions that arose from guilt of his actions.
"You don't need to do anything hard. Just help me in a…matter."
