Chapter 87 - The 'Old' Library

Luna walked down the corridor, her legs trembling from exhaustion. Sweat poured down her face, and she wiped it away with her sleeve.

I finally understand why my brother enjoyed training so much, Luna thought. It's so fulfilling!

Now, I shouldn't put things to the side for too long… then, Library it is!

Nyx really distracted me with this training, but…

Looking to the side, she peeked out the windows As she passed a window, she peeked out to see maids hanging freshly washed clothing in the courtyard behind the palace.

They work hard every day… Well then, I should work even harder.

Luna looked away, focusing on the path ahead. A slow smile spread across her face. Then, let's find something about Niva!

She gripped the handles of the highly detailed dark gates, which were emblazoned with two white swords pointing downwards. They stood out like a sore thumb against the genteel environment. All around, the grey walls were decorated with paintings of Lockheart predecessors, and a plush red carpet led to dressers holding vases of fresh flowers.

Then let's go in! With her full strength, she pulled on the doors. They slowly crept open, their hinges cracking with a sound that echoed in the too-quiet hall. The slow, monotonous way the doors moved, inch by groaning inch, made Luna shiver in fear, though she didn't know why.

Shaking off the feeling, she went in, looking around.

Shelves, shelves of books, shelves stacked a dozen high, hundreds enfolding before her, rows and rows of bookshelves.

Looking to the side, small wooden staircases led up to the bookshelves on higher floors.

Luna moved further in, observing her surroundings. The smell of old wood struck her nostrils, just as it had in the garden. She ran her hand along the brownish wood of a shelf as she walked.

Each shelf held too many books to count, stopping in her tracks as she looked upwards as the shelves stretched at least 6 bookshelves on itself, going up three floors.

Then, that's a lot of books, it's really a lifetime of books, heh.

Well, where could I find a book for any magical beast?, I think.

Niva , are you a magical beast? Luna inwardly asked.

…You might say so, If i say myself He answered.

Then, let's look around! Niva, come out and do something! and help me!

That thought of her was met in silence.

Please?...

Right after that, Niva popped out of Luna's forehead. His wolflike body formed in front of her. "Of course! Who would I be if I didn't help you when you ask so nicely? I, Niva, your personal spirit, will gladly lend you my powers!"

"Oh, of course, thank you. Then please find me a book on magical beasts…" Luna said.

Without hesitation, Niva answered, "I will find it! Then I'll come back in a second!"

He turned and flew out, looking around at the books, and disappeared around the corner.

"What… Your antics are really strange," Luna mumbled. "Anyway, let's look around."

Luna peeked around the corner, looking for the source of a strange sound that bounced around the library.

What are those sounds? Like a child running around, unsure where to go!

I heard Lilly spends hours in the library. It might be her footsteps…

It wouldn't hurt to see her, is it?

I don't know her. I haven't met her in 'this' life. All I know is that she is extremely shy and a bookworm.

Luna moved silently, darting into an aisle between shelves. She leaned against them, grabbed a corner, and peeked out—just in time to see Lilly walk by.

Lilly walked awkwardly, swinging her arms by her waist while holding a book in her right hand. She was a little hunched forward, and her legs barely broke the monotony of being close to themselves.

Seeing that she disappeared around the corner, Luna hurriedly made her way after her. Yet again peeking out, she saw Lilly putting that book onto a stack of books on a windowsill where at least ten others lay.

After doing so, she tried picking all of them up at once. Her legs trembled as she slowly placed a step forward, and her hands shook under their weight.

How much do those books weigh? Luna asked herself.

She slowly made her way without a sound after Lilly, looking out as Lilly crawled into a fort made out of books. Luna couldn't help herself but just grin from ear to ear, with a slight blush.
