Chapter 13 - Farming and Preserving

I resolved to build a farm one day. I could continue to have my villager golems gather food, but I wanted to preserve my environment and use the resources it providing solely as a last resort. I knew farming required the use of wood. I could have easily used cheat codes but I decided to experiment and find out how this world's environment worked.

I first ordered a few villager golems to gather wood from the forest. One of them set out to build a lumber camp in order to transport wood faster. Lumber camps, mining camps, and Mills served as drop off point for wood, stone, gold and food respectively. These would then automatically get added to the stockpile more faster than if the villager units had to drop them off at the town center building.

I then gathered another group of villager units and we set out to find an open field which we could turn into a farm and harvest food. I used a speed cheat to get myself and my golems far beyond the forest. I remembered the vast meadow that I had woken up in when I had reincarnated into this world. I resolved to build a farm there. Once we reached the meadow, the golems and I set about mowing down the grass to clear a vast space before building the farms.

We then built a mill to use as a drop point for food which we would harvest from the farms. Then I set about building a few houses to shelter the golems and a shack to store the farming tools. We then set about using the wood we collected to build a palisade wall around the area to keep away wild animals and bandits. Once the area was properly fortified, we set about tilling the soil. For seeds, we used the seeds of the fruit that I had foraged from the bushes earlier during my lone days. Our next problem was water.

I used my speed cheat to get to a river that I found on the mini-map tool that I had in my status box. Once there, I checked the flow of the water. I then started digging a canal to my farm from the river at twenty times the normal speed. I was glad that there was no one around to tell me off for doing this or claiming that the river belonged to them and that it was not up to me to decideto dig a canal for my use, like in my old world where there were always barriers and a high price to pay for every single good thing to occur. I went on boldly with my work.

After many long hours of work, I was finally able to connect the canto a well I built inside the mill. I was surprised to see that the golems had finished tilling the soil and were already harvesting the fruits that grew on the many bushes. I knew that farms always appeared within a few minutes with full capacity and grain, but I never imagined it to occur so quickly. If my old world had farms that bore fruit so rapidly, there would have been a mad rush to seize and own such places and an even madder rush to sabotage others in order to monopolize such farms.

We soon piled the harvested fruits in sacks and stored them away in the barn at the mill. It would later get accounted for in the resource stockpile. I programmed the golems to rebuild and refarm after each farm's life was exhausted. I left the golems to continue with tending to the land and returned home. Thus, I spent my time farming and preserving what I had grown.
