Chapter 18 - Sighting and Trailing Bandits

I now had the most superb armour. Kia was more than helpful. My armour was able to change into everyday looking clothes, for a start. I did not have to worry about wear and tear. My armour was able to repair itself quickly and so I now had an ability to rapidly heal from injuries. Not to mention the many offensive weaponry at my disposal. My entire body felt like rubber. I felt more flexible than I had ever been. I only felt slightly embarrassed about the way I needed to recharge the armour, but otherwise, life was never better.

I was eager to test out my new abilities soon. I found a place to practice in my armour in a wide open field. I summoned several soldier golems to spar with. i found myself more comfortable with a pair of swords. I could summon them very easily from my suit. The golems were no match against my very advanced weaponry system. Earlier, I was at best, able to handle three golems at a time. But now, with my new suit, I could easily face three hundred and still stand. Even in sleep, my suit had security precautions at hand.

it wasn't long before I found a chance to test my abilities. it was the harvest season now in my village. I woke up one morning to an alarm notification telling me I was under attack. "Wake up Master! we have a situation in the fields. We are under attack!," Kia said. I jumped to my feet and opened the mini-map option. I found that the alarm was coming from one of my fields. Kia at once suited me up. I was soon hurtling through the open to my fields. i found my field burning and my golems smashed completely.

"Don't worry Master! Let me help put out the fire!" Kia said transforming my hands into a fire hydrant nozzle. Soon I was invoking water magic and dousing the fire. I then looked at my destroyed golems lying all around. I found that someone had taken their magic stones away. I looked towards my barn and found it completely torched. The grain sacks were completely vandalized and strewn all around. I found some sacks missing. Naturally, I was extremely furious. I wanted to live a peaceful life and here I found myself robbed and my servants and my field destroyed.

"Kia, check the mini-map for any unit signatures around us!" I said fuming. "I can sense twelve units heading to the east towards the forest!" Kia said. "Make haste then!" I said. "Let's hunt down the ones who robbed us!" Soon I was racing ahead. Kia displayed the mini-map on my helmet's visor. I decided not to run straight at my enemy from behind, but to circle around and confront them from the front side. I saw the dots entering the forest, and sped up. Nearing the forest, I leaped into the air and landed on a thick tree branch.

Kia instinctively activated my suit's camoflague system. Now I was completely invisible to others' eyes. I began jumping from tree to tree like an ape. I found myself closing in. Soon, I was able to spot the vandals riding ahead. I counted ten horsemen and leading two carts behind them. I noticed that one cart was filled with sacks of grain stolen from my barn. The other was filled with a huge mound of straw. the horsemen were carrying bows and arrows strapped to their shoulders, and swords at their waists. they did not seem to be wearing much armour.

I remembered that units in the game had a thing called "line of sight". This enabled a unit to see any other unit that entered an area around them that was visible to them. Woe betide any units that were not allies to a unit, especially if the unit was a villager and the unit that crossed into their line of sight turned out to be a soldier or worse. "Don't worry! their lines of sight can't sense our position!" Kia said. Trusting Kia's assurance, I leaped noiselessly behind them. As i neared them, I could hear them talking aloud.

"Man, whoever thought we'd hit upon a nice treasure while finding food on the way!", one of them said. "Hey Dick, how much do you think one of these might fetch if we sold 'em?" said a thug with a greedy and sinister look on his face as he held up one of my golem's magic stones. Dick, a muscular man with a scar across his left eye, sneered back. "Better watch yourself Kidd, or you'll be in trouble soon!" A few others laughed. "Too bad for the chap who we got this from, looks like first rate!" said another.

"Yeah, yeah. but you must admit, that trash must keep a poor security. What a nut he ought to be to leave treasures lying around for the taking!" said yet another, whose name I learned to be Lee. "Well, the dumber they are, the more sweeter for us I'll say!" said Kidd rather very sadistically. "I was beginning to think we'd gone off the beaten track after we torched that village a long time ago" said another whose name was Dugg. "It's gonna be a party tonight like no other, once we find a spot to camp for the night!"

I could have killed them quite easily in an instant but I decided to bide my time. I kept pace with them noiselessly as I listened in to more of the atrocities that they boasted of committing. To be frank, these men didn't deserve to be called men. if they were honourable thieves, they would have merely taken the grain and left after knocking the guard. but to torch a field to the ground rendering it unable to ever bear fruit was beyond human. Controlling my killing urges, I kept following them until night fell. I watched as they began camp for the night in a clearing in the forest.

Taking a chance, I leapt closer, and armed myself for attack. stealthily, I closed in. Just as I prepared to strike—

"Boss… I feel something," I heard one of the Bandits shout. I froze. One of the bandits slowly turned his head… directly toward me. "Feels like someone's here." Kia's voice rang sharply in my mind. "Master… we've been detected."
