Chapter 8 - Building a Watch Tower

When I awoke the next morning, I thought about building something. I knew that the game had a lot of interesting buildings. I hadn't yet begun experimenting on building things. I resolved to try building a watch tower. I knew that a watch tower building could shoot arrows at enemy forces without anyone manning it. I also wanted to find out how this was possible.

After having my breakfast, I walked around the village settlement to find a suitable place for a watch tower. I particularly wanted a location in the heart of the village that would give me a clear vantage point and allow me to see a great distance.

I came upon a little mound just near the well. I stood upon it and looked around. I was able to gaze at my surroundings from a slightly elevated angle. Thus satisfied, I opened my status box and selected the build option and then selected watch tower. I then marked the location of the tower using the mini-map. Once the foundation for the tower appeared, a golden building hammer appeared in my hand this time. I supposed that this hammer was used for building while the silver one was for repairing.

However, when I started to pound, I received another notification saying that I had insufficient wood. I checked my stockpile and found that I literally had no wood. This time though, I didn't want to waste time cutting trees till I got the required amount of wood, so I decided to go in for a cheat code instead. For every gamer who found that the odds were against them in the levels, cheat codes were a blessing. It gave one access to items that were otherwise very rare or unattainable. It's literally annoying to find out that your opponent starts off with more resources that you ever have. I opened the chat box (or cheat box as I called it now) and entered the code "TIMBER1000". Soon I had the required wood and set off pounding the watch tower into existence.

The work was over in a span of ten minutes. I now had a very decent looking watch tower that would fire away neutral and enemy units with arrows. I was also curious to see how it worked. I entered the watch tower and made my way to the top.

I found myself in the room at the top of the tower and was astonished to come face to face with a large glowing stone floating in the middle of the room. I understood this to be some kind of magic stone that could automatically control the tower's weaponry. I went forward and touched it and immediately felt a connection to my thoughts. I closed my eyes and mentally requested that the tower guard me against enemy forces while touching it. As though the stone understood my thoughts, it glowed white for about a few seconds and then went back to normal. I was confident now that with my newly constructed watch tower fully functional, I was more fortified from an attack by enemy forces.
