Back at the base, I began to prepare for the consequences of taking Supergirl's bone marrow. The Morrow's computer was a short work in progress, but it was still a waste of time, who knew how soon it would start. It was the first alien bone marrow I'd ever eaten, and I had no idea how it would turn out.
Unfortunately, there was no running water in the warehouse, much less a shower. It was possible to run it, but too much unnecessary work. Of course I could rent a hotel room and run everything there, but that option had a lot of problems. The horrible odor could attract attention. And who knows how long I'd be there, I might get a visit from the hotel staff. I don't want that. The warehouse isn't exactly safe, but I don't have a choice now. I don't have many enemies on this planet, so I don't have to worry too much.
It didn't take long to get ready, I undressed and made myself comfortable on the cellophane. A bath would have been a good solution, but I was fine.....
Now all we have to do is wait. I have a feeling that something amazing is going to happen very soon....
I waited for a long time, occasionally glancing at the time. Even after eight minutes, nothing was happening; that was definitely a record. I was beginning to worry that it wouldn't work. That was a possibility, because I was a meta-human and could only absorb the powers of my own kind. It was also possible that the aliens were just a different species and it wouldn't work.
But still it was strange, after eating my brain, the sensations I had experienced were amazing. I just couldn't believe that nothing was going to happen. Then I felt not only a monstrous nutrition that could not be compared to anything, but also a special feeling that only comes from eating living beings. The water from the Lazarus Pit was not even close. It was nutritious, it was true, but it didn't give the special feeling that human flesh did. The water was like a meat substitute, nothing more. The life energy from the Lazarus Pit, was like a fake, though it had a similar effect to the original. Even animal flesh had this trait that the water from the Pit did not.
As for Kara's bone marrow, it certainly had that unique feature, and it was many times stronger than that of mere mortals. But that wasn't the only thing her marrow possessed. The main feature that was unique to bone marrow, it had that too. I felt a warmth and strength that only comes from absorbing it. Human bone marrow used to have this effect, but when I surpassed them, it disappeared completely.
This effect was the main proof that bone marrow would benefit me and could strengthen me.
So from that I knew for sure that something was going to happen. But now that so much time had passed, I was no longer sure....
Hmm, maybe I ate too little? They're not meta humans after all, who knows what it takes to get their powers...
I think there's something there, though... In the tenth minute, the first signs of change appeared. It was just a slight fever, gradually increasing. My body began to sweat, and after a couple of minutes, liquid was pouring out of me. At first it was transparent, but after it became grayish and began to acquire an unpleasant smell. It was clear that the toxins were starting to leave my body.
As the liquid darkened more, it became more viscous and the rate of flow slowed. It was horribly disgusting, even my face pores opened up, and streams of it began to come out of my face and into my nostrils, eyes, and mouth. But I tolerated it, for other changes had begun.....
Along with the high fever came a terrible discomfort in my bones and skin. It was tolerable at first, but then I wanted to tear my skin and scratch my bones. Light-phobia, headache, and then my nose was bleeding..... I couldn't even open my eyes, but I could feel myself starting to bleed from all the facial orifices. My heart was beating so fast it felt like it was about to burst. I felt like I was burning alive.... Terrible pain, so intense that my bones began to break....

«Aaah! I couldn't stop screaming. The pain was hellish...
In this agony, I was writhing with all my limbs, just breaking out my arms and legs. My vision was completely gone; I couldn't even feel it, as if it didn't exist.
I didn't know how much time had passed, but the pain was gone, or maybe I just stopped feeling it. I just didn't know what was happening. All that was left was the faint sound of my heart beating. It got weaker and weaker. Then I completely blacked out.

«Haaah! - I jumped up sharply and began to gulp in air. As soon as I took my first breath, I immediately felt a strong burning sensation in my chest. It was as if my lungs had slightly ruptured..... I squirmed unpleasantly and looked around, and was immediately shocked.
I remember the vision disappearing, but now.... I just couldn't control it; one eye saw normally, but the other eye had somehow gotten through the walls of the warehouse and was looking outside. Closing my eyes, I focused, then slowly opened them and exhaled:
«I think I'm okay. - I got my eyesight back to normal, and after a bit of tinkering, I seemed to have some control over it.
Looking around again, I grinned crookedly. What I saw was quite expected. It was the worst of all transformations, and the pain was incomparable to anything else. I still expected something like this.... The whole place was flooded with a black liquid with a hint of red. There was an awful lot of it, it was the first time I'd ever seen so much of it. I'd probably have to change my base now, even the cellophane couldn't hold it all and the floor was completely covered. There was a stench, of course, but I was used to it. I was more concerned about the bloody red color in the black liquid. It had happened to me before, but the amount was much smaller. There were definitely several liters of this liquid and apparently its density was even higher than the dark toxins. Perhaps it was discarded cells and body tissue. I can only make that assumption...
I was not just clean, I was almost shiny. Pale skin, almost like a newborn's. I was covered in mucus, but it was slightly clear and a little pinkish. I really did look like I had just been born. Usually I was covered in black mucus, but not this time. It looked like all the toxins were completely out, which was definitely good to see.... It was as if I had been reborn, completely renewed and transcended the limits of a mere human, becoming a new and unique being.
