Chapter 232 - Chapter 232: Alice in Wonderland (5)

[Third Person Pov]

The Rabbit man attempted to step away smoothly after knocking down both Danny and Ember, brushing imaginary dust from his tailored coat with an air of smug satisfaction. But Danny was faster. In a blur of motion, he lunged forward, executing a flawless jujitsu takedown. He hooked the Rabbit's leg, twisted his body, and slammed him hard into the forest floor, pinning him down with unyielding pressure.

Danny pressed his knee firmly into the Rabbit's chest and drove his fist into the ground right beside the man's head. The earth splintered violently, sending sharp fragments of dirt and stone flying outward. "Tell me," Danny growled, his voice low and dangerous, "where is he? Where can I find the Mad Hatter?"

The Rabbit simply smiled—faint, calm, and utterly untroubled, as if he were enjoying a pleasant afternoon chat rather than being pinned to the dirt.

"I shall confide a little secret," he murmured. The quiet, refined tone of his voice was somehow more unsettling than any shout could have been. "Time is much like money, my not-so-dear ghostly fellow. One must learn to be frugal with both, lest they be squandered upon the inconsequential."

He tilted his head ever so slightly, his crimson eyes gleaming with eerie composure as they stayed locked on Danny's.

"And if one wishes to be economical with one's time, one must first learn to ask the proper questions. You inquire where the Mad Hatter may be found. That, I fear, is the wrong question. For the Hatter is everywhere—in you, in me, in all of us."

The Rabbit's smile widened just enough to turn unsettling, revealing a hint of sharp teeth. "The true question, my good sir, is not *where* you may find him… but rather *how*."

"Alright then, doc," Danny said through clenched teeth, his patience wearing thin. "How can I find the Mad Hatter?"

"I could tell you," the Rabbit replied with a dismissive frown, "but I value my time far too much to waste any more of it on this farce."

Without warning, his fist rocketed upward, slamming into Danny's ribs with surprising power. The pressure on his chest loosened just enough for the Rabbit to grab Danny by the collar and deliver a vicious headbutt. Danny stumbled backward, dazed. The Rabbit was on his feet in an instant, spinning gracefully and striking Danny's chin with the back of his heel in a fluid, powerful kick.

"You know what? Fuck this," Danny snarled, wiping blood from his mouth with the back of his hand. "You're right about one thing—I can't waste any more time on this bullshit."

He dropped into a solid boxer's stance, fists cocked and ready, then lunged forward with a lightning-fast jab.

The Rabbit man mirrored his stance almost mockingly, beginning to hop lightly from side to side with surprising agility, his long ears flopping with each movement.

Ember pushed herself up from the ground, eyes widening as she watched the two turn the forest clearing into an impromptu boxing ring. Their movements were blindingly fast and eerily efficient—jabs, hooks, and counters slicing through the air with precision. The sharp thud of fists connecting echoed between the trees.

Danny bobbed and weaved, keeping his arms tucked close to his face for defense. He rolled under a quick jab and countered with a powerful uppercut, immediately following it up with a blistering series of right and left hooks that forced the Rabbit on the defensive.

The Rabbit responded with a strong, snapping kick to Danny's side. As Danny instinctively lowered his guard, Ember seized the opening. She vaulted over his back, using one hand planted firmly on his shoulder for momentum, then twisted mid-air and delivered a devastating spinning kick with her boot straight across the Rabbit's face.

The impact sent the Rabbit man flying backward. Blood poured from his nose and the corner of his mouth from the brutal combination attack. Even with his enhanced speed, holding off the coordinated assault from both Danny and Ember was proving nearly impossible.

The Rabbit man crashed against a thick tree trunk, leaning heavily against it as he gasped for air, one hand clutching his bruised ribs. "Fine…" he huffed, chest heaving. "If you insist on wasting my time… I'll make sure every second counts."

He brought two fingers to his mouth and let out a sharp, piercing whistle that cut through the forest.

Danny and Ember were already charging forward again, side by side, fists cocked and ready to end the fight. But just as they threw their punches, two massive hands suddenly shot out from behind the tree and caught their strikes mid-air, stopping them cold.

Stepping out from behind the trunk were two enormous, hulking figures wearing full-face masks. One depicted a smug-looking pig, the other a creepy, wide-eyed baby.

"Allow me the honor of introducing you," the Rabbit said, his voice regaining its refined composure as he straightened up and gestured with a theatrical flourish. "Meet Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum."

"Now, if you'll excuse me," the Rabbit man said smoothly, adjusting his monocle as Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum began advancing. The two massive figures pushed Danny and Ember back with relentless, unstoppable force. "The clock is ticking."

He had only managed three steps when a barrage of projectiles rained down from the canopy above. Small explosive pellets detonated at his feet in rapid succession, forcing him to stumble backward in surprise. In the same instant, Robin executed a perfect acrobatic flip, soaring over their heads and landing gracefully in front of the Rabbit Man. He crouched low in a ready stance, a confident smirk on his face.

"What's the rush?" Robin asked coolly. "Got someplace to be?"

"As a matter of fact, I do," the Rabbit replied with a deadpan expression, staring at Robin in clear annoyance.

The forest clearing erupted into complete chaos. What followed was a frantic, no-holds-barred free-for-all.

Ember unleashed controlled bursts of pale blue flames, sending waves of fire licking across the battlefield. Danny countered with rapid volleys of snow and razor-sharp ice projectiles, both of them carefully holding back the full intensity of their powers to avoid accidentally harming their own team. Yet despite the onslaught, Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum behaved like absolute juggernauts. The hulking masked figures barreled straight through the fire and ice, barely slowed as they charged forward.

Robin moved like a performer in the middle of an elaborate show. He leaped, spun, and vaulted through the air with breathtaking agility, using his staff to propel himself off trees and redirect his momentum. He would have been nearly impossible to track—if not for the Rabbit's uncanny ability to manipulate time, slowing moments just enough to anticipate and counter his movements.

At one point, Robin hurled a barrage of smoke bombs into the fray. Thick clouds billowed outward, swallowing the battlefield in darkness. The sounds of impacts, grunts, and explosions echoed eerily through the haze as the fight turned into a desperate brawl of silhouettes.

Danny, Ember, and Robin gave it everything they had, but the restrictions of the illusion weighed heavily on their abilities. It made closing the gap feel nearly impossible.

Danny was the first to fall. Tweedle-Dum (the baby-masked giant) seized him by the head with two enormous hands and slammed him brutally into the ground. Before Danny could recover, the brute grabbed his leg and hurled him hard into a nearby tree. Danny's arms trembled as he tried to push himself up, only to receive a crushing kick to the face. He dropped, unmoving.

Ember followed moments later. A devastating punch from Tweedle-Dee sent her flying backward. She hit the ground hard and didn't get back up.

Robin remained the last one standing. Facing three opponents at once was grueling, but he managed for a time—dodging, striking, and using every trick in his arsenal. His lips were cracked and bleeding, a nasty gash had opened above his brow, and his face was painted with a mixture of blood and bruises.

Finally, a punishing punch to the gut folded him. Robin crumbled to his knees before falling face-first into the dirt, eyes closed.

"Well, that takes care of that," the Rabbit huffed, puffing out his coat and straightening his collar with fastidious precision.

"What do we do with them?" Tweedle-Dee asked, looking down at the three fallen intruders.

"Yeah, do we just leave them here?" Tweedle-Dum added, turning toward the Rabbit for direction.

"No, of course not, you dunces," the Rabbit snapped. "We need *her*. She's the key to all of this—she's our Alice." He pulled out his pocket watch, clicking his tongue impatiently as he tapped his foot. "We don't have time for this. Just bring all three of them with you. We don't have a second to spare, unfortunately."

Tweedle-Dee (the pig-masked giant) easily hoisted Ember over his broad shoulders. Tweedle-Dum grabbed both Danny and Robin, slinging one over each of his massive shoulders like sacks of potatoes.

As they began marching deeper into the forest toward the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, Robin carefully peeked one eye open. Danny soon did the same. The two boys locked eyes for a brief moment. Danny shot Robin two enthusiastic thumbs-up accompanied by a beaming, mischievous grin.

"Huh?" Tweedle-Dee glanced over his shoulder, sensing something was off.

The boys instantly went limp again, pretending to be unconscious. Tweedle-Dee stared for a second, then shrugged his massive shoulders and continued trudging forward, following the Rabbit and his partner through the twisted woods.
