Scarlett's POV
The scent of chlorine hung thick in the air, mixing with the floral undertones of the gardenia-scented candles scattered around the pool deck. The sound of people laughing and drinking at the ground floor acted as background noise.
My heart beat thundered in my ears, syncing with the bass of the speakers.
The moonlight cast a soft golden glow over the night; over him. Ace looked devilishly handsome as he dipped his feet into the warm water.
I stayed waist-deep in the pool, trying to blend into the ripples. The water was cool against my skin, calming, but not enough to drown out the chaos swirling inside me. My gaze lifted just in time to see Layla swimming toward me, smiling far too innocently.
"I'm heading inside for a bit." she said, nudging her head toward the hallway.
I narrowed my eyes, on the verge of having a heart attack."For what?"
"Girl stuff," she replied vaguely, then leaned in with a smirk. "And you're welcome."
