Ace's POV.
The pain came first. It was like a hammer behind my eyes, pounding relentlessly; a punishment for the night before. I groaned and pressed the heel of my palm against my forehead, trying to block out the invading morning light.
I rolled over, mistaking my couch for my bed. My body landed with a heavy thud to the floor and I groaned in even more pain.
What a fucking great start to a fucking great morning.
I struggled to rise to my feet, and it proved difficult due to the aching in my skull that had my vision going blurry every two seconds.
Then came the second blow. The daunting memory of my conversation with Scarlett last night.
Scarlett.
Her name left an aching hole in my chest. The betrayal in her eyes when I told her the truth left an echo of pain in my chest, one I couldn't bring to words if I tried.
But I couldn't help but relive the highlight of the night. The feel of her lips. How greedily she had responded to my kiss. Then, how quickly it had all ended.
