Chapter 343: Hoenn's Champion Battle (1) [Bonus]
~Third POV~
[Hoenn Region, Pokémon League (Hoenn) – Champion's Room]
He entered the grand gates, the air growing thick with anticipation. The journey through the Elite Four was a blur of calculated moves, strategic switches, and the raw power of his team.
Drake's dragons roared and fell, Glacia's icy fortresses shattered, Sidney's dark trickery unraveled, and Phoebe's ghostly specters faded before the indomitable will of Azure and his Pokémon. Each victory was hard-won, a testament to the rigorous training in the Secret Meadow, pushing Azure further, sharpening his resolve.
Finally, the grand, imposing doors to the Champion's room swung open.
Darkness enveloped the chamber, a heavy, silent void broken only by the faint gleam of light from the corridor behind him. In the center, a silhouette sat enthroned, radiating an aura of calm authority…
*Tmp*
As Azure stepped fully inside, the room slowly, dramatically, began to illuminate. Soft, warm light spread across the octagonal space, revealing walls adorned with an intricate grid-like pattern that seemed to hum with latent energy. In the heart of the room, an octagonal stage, polished to a dark sheen, waited.
At the far end, a small, elegant silver staircase curved upwards, beckoning towards the hallowed Hall of Fame. The entire chamber was awash in a rich, dark brown color scheme, exuding a sense of profound history and impending grandeur.
The figure on the throne, now fully visible, rose and moved towards him. It was Steven Stone, the Hoenn Pokémon League Champion, a man whose presence was as solid and reliable as the rare stones he so admired.
A warm, genuine smile lit his face. Steven's voice was smooth, a pleasant tenor that carried effortlessly through the chamber, "Azure, my friend. You made it. I was expecting you."
Azure returned the smile, a slight chuckle escaping him as he replied, "It's been quite the journey, Steven. Especially after that whole debacle with Team Aqua and Magma, not to mention the Super Ancient Legendary Pokémon throwing the entire region into chaos. You certainly gave me a memorable welcome to Hoenn."
Steven chuckled, a deep, resonant sound as he shamelessly admitted, "Indeed. I must admit, when I first heard you were coming to Hoenn, starting fresh with a new team… I was a little concerned. I asked for your help then, but I wondered if your new partners, however talented, would be ready for such a monumental task. But it seems my worry was entirely unfounded. You and your team managed to save the day, didn't you?"
He leaned back, his eyes sparkling with admiration. Azure rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly and replied, "It was, without a doubt, one of the most exhausting moments of my life. But I'm glad I came to Hoenn, and I'm even more glad I came with this team. We've grown so much."
He paused, looking around the magnificent chamber, then back at Steven as he said bluntly, "But now, though, I suppose the time for talk is over, I assume?"
Steven's grin widened, a flash of competitive fire igniting in his eyes. He stood tall, adjusting his jacket with a confident flourish as he said calmly, "Of course. The whispers have been everywhere, Azure. People have speculated endlessly about who would emerge victorious if the Indigo and Ever Grande Champions were to finally meet. Some would argue my experience in Hoenn would be the deciding factor; others would champion your tactical brilliance, honed through two League victories. But now…"
He spread his hands, encompassing the stage between them, and finished off, "I suppose we'll know soon enough, no?"
Azure matched Steven's grin, a confident gleam in his own eyes. He inhaled deeply, the air charged with electric anticipation as he replied, "You'll certainly know now, Steven."
Steven's gaze became intense, yet warm, a reflection of their shared history and mutual respect as he said excitedly, "I was hoping I would one day get to see you make it here. Tell me... what have you seen on your journey, Azure, with your Pokémon? What have you felt meeting so many other Trainers across this rich land of Hoenn? Has it awoken something inside you? I want you to come at me with all that you've learned. My Pokémon and I will respond in turn with all that we know!"
The air vibrated with unspoken challenge and profound respect. Both trainers moved with synchronized intent, taking their positions on opposite sides of the octagonal stage provided in the Champion's room.
Steven's voice, calm but firm, echoed through the chamber, "This will be a full 6v6 Pokémon battle, Azure. With pleasantries done, let's begin!"
With that declaration, a surge of adrenaline coursed through Azure. He reached for a Poké Ball on his belt, as did Steven…
*Swooosh*
*Pop*
In a perfectly synchronized motion, both hurled their capsules forward. A flash of azure light from Azure's ball, a gleam of silver from Steven's.
Steven called, as his steel-winged bird unfurled, its metallic plumage glinting under the lights, a small, green shimmer around its feet betraying the presence of its [Leftovers], "Skarmory! Soar through the skies!"
Azure's voice boomed, and the mighty Dragon-Flying type materialized, its scales shimmering, the [Dragon Fang] clutched between its powerful jaws, "Salamence! I choose you!!"
Steven's eyes swept over Salamence, a genuine smile returning to his face as he complimented him, "Ah, the Bagon I gave you as a gift back in Dewford City. It has matured wonderfully, Azure. Just as I expected of you, friend."
Azure grinned, feeling a surge of pride as he replied casually, "Thank you for the gift, Steven. And I intend to show you just how greatly it has matured."
He raised a hand, his voice laced with command, "Salamence, show him our thanks! Strong Style Flamethrower!"
*Ssssss*
A torrent of intense, searing flames erupted from Salamence's maw, arcing directly towards the formidable Skarmory. Steven's smile, however, remained, even as his eyes hardened, cold and sharp as the steel of his Pokémon.
He countered, "Skarmory, Agility!"
*Zoooom*
With a metallic screech, Skarmory blurred, its movements doubling in speed. The Flamethrower, a river of fire, whistled harmlessly through the space where the Steel-Flying Pokémon had been moments before.
*Fwp*
Skarmory settled gracefully, leaving a faint afterimage in its wake, its speed now significantly amplified. Azure's eyes narrowed, the easy camaraderie of their conversation fading, replaced by a fierce, concentrated focus as he thought, 'This was no longer a friendly spar between old companions; this was a clash of champions, a strategic dance between two of the world's finest. And I don't intend to be the one who lost here…'
Salamence coiled, its rage barely contained. Azure, anticipating Skarmory's increased speed, made a calculated move, ordering, "Salamence, Dragon Dance!"
*Fwp*
The mighty dragon began to perform a mesmerizing, powerful dance, its body surging with draconic energy. Its Attack and Speed stats climbed, a clear threat to Skarmory by +1 Attack and Speed.
However, Steven was already reacting, his gaze fixed on Azure's side of the field. He countered casually, "Skarmory, Spikes! Blanket their side!"
*PEW*
With a swift, powerful flap of its wings, Skarmory unleashed a volley of sharp, metallic barbs. They scattered across the octagonal stage directly in front of Azure's position, glittering menacingly.
Azure's attention, momentarily drawn by the setup, shifted quickly as his eyes locked on the trap and he thought, 'This is a classic entry hazard strategy, designed to punish any Pokémon he switched in later. I must deal with it now. Any later and Steven will get an edge…'
Knowing what to do, Azure commanded, "Clear the field with Defog!"
*FWP*
Salamence roared, flapping its massive wings with incredible force. A powerful gust of wind, infused with dragonic energy, swept across the stage, scattering the Spikes and clearing the hazard from Azure's side.
The move bought him time, but it also cost him an offensive turn. Steven seized the opportunity, commanding, "Skarmory, Steel Wing! Strike down that dragon!"
*Shinng*
Skarmory shot forward, its wings hardening to razor-sharp blades of steel. It slammed into Salamence with formidable force, earning a grunt of pain from the dragon.
*SMACK*
Azure grit his teeth as he commanded, "Salamence, Tailwind!"
He aimed to further boost his dragon's speed, hoping to outpace the agile Skarmory. But Steven was one step ahead, coolly countering, "Skarmory, Taunt! Silence that dragon's support!"
Before Salamence could fully manifest the swirling winds of Tailwind, Skarmory's taunting cry echoed, laced with an irritating magic that locked Salamence, forcing it into attacking moves only. The wind around Salamence dissipated, an unfinished thought.
Azure's jaw tightened as he murmured, "Steven's relentless."
Skarmory dove in again, a flurry of rapid strikes as Steven ordered, "Fury Attack!"
*Wooosh*
Salamence, though vexed by the Taunt, was agile. It dodged the barrage of metallic jabs, its eyes burning with frustration.
Azure saw his opening as he commanded, "Flamethrower, Salamence! Now!"
*Sssss*
Another scorching blast of fire erupted, aimed directly at Skarmory. Steven, however, had another trick up his sleeve as he ordered, "Skarmory, Swords Dance! Use the blades of wind to repel the flames!"
*Shiii*
With an astonishing display of aerial agility, Skarmory spun, its wings cutting through the air like razor-sharp swords. The vortex of wind it created acted as a barrier, deflecting the Flamethrower harmlessly to the side.
As a bonus, the intense focus of the Swords Dance also propelled Skarmory's Attack stat to formidable heights by +2 Stages. Steven nodded, a slight, knowing smile on his face as he lightly boasted, "I took a page from your book there. Watching your tournament matches, I saw how you used defensive maneuvers to turn into offensive opportunities. I thought it would suit Skarmory wonderfully."
Azure's grin twitched, a hint of annoyance mixed with grudging admiration as he thought bitterly, 'Steven wasn't just countering; he was adapting to my own tactics. Now, not only was Salamence locked into attacking moves, but its primary Fire-type offense had been rendered less effective, and Skarmory was hitting harder than ever. I must think outside the box for this...'
Skarmory pressed its advantage. Steven ordered, "Swift attack!"
*PEW*
*PEW*
A volley of star-shaped, unavoidable energy projectiles streaked across the stage, hitting Salamence squarely and earning another pained roar, "Graoo!!"
Before Salamence could fully recover, Skarmory swooped down again, aiming for another Steel Wing. Azure commanded, a desperate plan forming, "Take the hit, Salamence!"
*SMACK*
Skarmory's Steel Wing connected, digging into Salamence's shoulder. It hurt, but Salamence endured, its body trembling from the impact.
As Skarmory pulled back, momentarily close, Azure roared, "Strong Style Fire Fang! Clamp down!"
*CRUNCH*
With a sudden, violent lunge, Salamence snapped its powerful jaws, teeth blazing with fire. It clamped down hard on Skarmory's metallic body, earning a piercing shriek of pain from the Steel-Flying Pokémon, "SKARR!! (LET GO!!)"
Skarmory thrashed wildly, struggling to break free. Azure urged, seizing the momentum, "Now, Salamence! Strong Style Flamethrower, while you hold it!"
*SSSSSS*
Even as it held Skarmory in its fiery grip, Salamence unleashed a stream of fire directly onto its struggling opponent. Skarmory shrieked louder, its metallic body glowing red-hot where the flames connected, struggling with renewed desperation.
Steven's eyes narrowed, pinpointing Skarmory's wriggling distress. He knew Salamence's weakness as he ordered, "Skarmory, Swift! Concentrate on Salamence's wings!"
*PEW*
*PEW*
Ignoring the searing pain, Skarmory focused, unleashing another volley of star-shaped projectiles. This time, they weren't aimed at Salamence's body, but specifically at its large, cherished wings…
*Wooosh*
The force of the Swift attacks, coupled with the ingrained instinct to protect its most vital means of flight, caused Salamence to reflexively loosen its grip, roaring in indignation and pain as it momentarily released Skarmory.
Steven aimed for that innate love of flight, knowing that Salamence's dream of soaring wouldn't allow any harm to come to its wings. Skarmory, seizing the momentary freedom, twisted free, narrowly escaping the dragon's maw.
Azure managed a weak, rueful grin as he thought bitterly, 'Steven expertly exploited a deep-seated instinct. And Skarmory, despite the damage, was already showing signs of recovery, the greenish glow of its [Leftovers] steadily mending its wounds. Not good…'
Salamence, however, was clearly enraged, growling low in its throat, its pride wounded. Steven commanded, "Skarmory, Hidden Power!"
*PEW*
A surge of concentrated energy, invisible to the eye until it manifested as a small, focused blast, shot towards Salamence. Salamence, still fuming, dodged the first few blasts with surprising agility, a blur of scales and powerful wing beats…
*BOOOM*
But eventually, one of the energy pulses connected, causing it to flinch. Steven pressed, keeping the pressure on, "Steel Wing!"
*Shinng*
Skarmory swooped in again, its wings honed into weapons. Azure, however, had an answer ready, ordering, "Salamence, Dragon Rush! Meet it head-on!"
*ZOOOM*
Gathering its draconic might, Salamence charged forward, transforming into a swirling, reptilian vortex of energy. The two attacks collided with a deafening crash, a shower of sparks, and a shockwave that rippled across the stage.
*BOOOM*
Skarmory was sent reeling backwards, its metallic body skidding across the polished floor. Steven rushed to Skarmory's side, a flicker of concern in his eyes, checking swiftly to ensure his Pokémon was alright.
In that momentary lapse, Azure saw another opportunity. He ordered, "Salamence, Agile Style Flamethrower! Keep the pressure on!"
*Sssss*
A renewed torrent of fire erupted from Salamence. Steven, however, had already recovered, his strategic mind working at lightning speed…
*Wooosh*
*Fwp*
Skarmory, though shaken, was nimble, deftly dodging each fireball flung its way. It weaved through the flames, a metallic ghost against the fiery backdrop…
*Zooom*
But just as it dodged the last, its attention fully on the incoming fire, Salamence suddenly seemed to appear right in front of it, as if materializing out of thin air. Azure then ordered, "Strong Style Fire Fang!"
*CRUNCH*
Before Skarmory could react, Salamence's jaws snapped shut once more, blazing with Fire Fang. The impact sent Skarmory flying, a metallic projectile that crashed against the far wall of the octagonal chamber with a painful clang.
*CLANG*
Steven caught onto Azure's deception instantly. He murmured, his gaze sharp, "Clever, Azure… You deliberately used Flamethrower to guide Skarmory's movements, forcing it into a predictable pattern, then closed the distance for a surprise Fire Fang."
He checked on Skarmory again, ensuring it was still capable of battle. Steven then said calmly, "No more being caught off guard, then."
As Salamence wound up for another devastating fireball, Steven issued his command, "Skarmory, Aerial Ace! Intercept it!"
*Zoooom*
Skarmory, rallying its reserves, launched itself into the air, becoming a streak of silver. It met Salamence's incoming Flamethrower head-on, its Aerial Ace cutting through the flames with pinpoint accuracy…
*BOOOM*
The impact was phenomenal, a burst of light and sound that created a thick cloud of smoke, momentarily obscuring both Pokémon. Steven's voice cut through the haze, "Skarmory, Steel Wing! Use the cover!"
*Shinng*
A metallic screech echoed from within the smoke, and Skarmory, now hidden, shot towards Salamence, aiming for another powerful Steel Wing attack. Azure's command was urgent, "Protect, Salamence! Now!"
*THUD*
Just as Skarmory burst from the smoke, its wings poised to strike, an emerald green barrier shimmered into existence around Salamence. Skarmory's Steel Wing struck the shield with a resounding thud, narrowly blocked.
The barrier flickered and faded. Both Pokémon were heavily damaged, panting, their energy reserves critically low.
This was it. The final exchange.
Azure roared, pouring all his will into the command, "Salamence! Fire Fang! One last time!"
Steven countered, his voice equally resolute, "Skarmory! Brave Bird!"
*Zoooom*
With a final, desperate burst of energy, Salamence charged, its jaws blazing. Skarmory, its body glowing with sacrificial courage, enveloped itself in a blue aura of pure flying energy, diving straight into Salamence.
*KA-BOOOM*
The two titans collided in a cataclysmic explosion of fire, steel, and raw power. The entire chamber shook. For a long, agonizing moment, the air was thick with dust and static. Then, with a soft crumple, both Pokémon fell.
*Thud*
Silence.
Steven and Azure stared, unmoving, at the fallen forms of their partners. Azure let out a slow, steady breath. The first round, a thrilling, exhausting draw.
He looked across at Steven, a fresh wave of respect washing over him as he thought, 'This is going to be a battle for the ages.'
The air hung heavy with the dust and smoke of battle. The scoreboard between them flickered, displaying the result: a draw. The first round, a magnificent clash of strategies and raw power, had ended in a stalemate.
The silence in the Champion's room was profound, broken only by the soft, steady breaths of the two Champions. Both recalled they're Pokémon already preparing they're next choices immediately.
Now, with the score standing at five Pokémon each, the tension was even thicker. Steven declared, his voice cutting through the lingering silence, "Well then, Azure… Let's see what you have next."
Azure responded, his eyes gleaming with anticipation, "With pleasure, Steven."
Simultaneously, both trainers reached for their next Pokémon, their movements synchronized, a testament to their mutual understanding and respect. Steven called out, a confident smirk playing on his lips, "Excadrill, it's your turn!"
*Pop*
From the flashing beam of light emerged a powerful, bipedal mole-like Pokémon, its body a sleek, metallic gray, its drills spinning gently. Steven's Excadrill held a [Smooth Rock] in one of its powerful claws, a subtle hint of its upcoming strategy.
Azure announced, his voice steady, "Milotic, I choose you!"
*Pop*
The elegant form of Milotic materialized, its scales shimmering with an ethereal grace. The moment it appeared, a tiny [Flame Orb] in its serpentine coils pulsed with a gentle heat, activating its Marvel Scale ability.
Milotic's body glowed faintly, a visible surge of defensive power washing over her. Her already formidable defense was boosted by a staggering 50%.
Steven's smirk widened, bringing fond memories as he uttered, "Ah, Milotic. A classic. But let's see how she handles the storm!"
He made the first move as Excadrill outsped the Tender Pokémon, his voice ringing with authority, "Excadrill, Sandstorm!"
*RMBL*
With a guttural roar, Excadrill plunged its mighty drills into the octagonal stage. The ground shuddered, and a torrent of coarse sand erupted, swirling outwards with incredible force. The air immediately grew thick and gritty, reducing visibility and stinging the exposed skin of anyone within the arena.
The Sand Force ability of Excadrill was activated, augmenting its already considerable power in this tumultuous environment by 30%. And with the [Smooth Rock] it held, the sandstorm was not a fleeting phenomenon; it was destined to rage for a protracted, punishing duration, a gritty siege weapon against Azure's graceful Milotic.
But Azure, ever the master strategist, saw an opportunity. Milotic, though burned by the [Flame Orb], remained serene. He commanded, "Milotic, Aqua Ring!"
*Splash*
Milotic's long, undulating body began to shimmer, and a graceful ring of water formed around her. The gentle flow of oceanic energy enveloped her, subtly mending the continuous burn damage from the [Flame Orb].
Milotic took small, almost imperceptible chip damage from the sandstorm, but the Aqua Ring ensured her vitality wouldn't drain away quickly. Milotic was an oasis in Steven's manufactured desert.
Steven conceded softly, but his eyes were sharp, "Impressive counter, Azure! Excadrill, Metal Claw!"
*Zooom*
Excadrill, a blur of metallic gray and spinning drills, dashed through the swirling sand. The sandstorm, far from hindering it, seemed to empower its movements, granting it an almost supernatural swiftness.
It closed the distance to Milotic in a heartbeat, its sharpened claw glowing with steel energy. The attack struck Milotic's side with a jarring clang.
*CLANG*
But the beautiful serpent, now fortified by Marvel Scale, barely flinched. The blow, designed to cleave, felt more like a dull thud.
Azure's voice was calm, confident, "Now, Milotic, Coil!"
*Shiii*
Responding to her trainer's command, Milotic effortlessly swayed, her serpentine body coiling gracefully as if performing an ancient dance. With each tightening spiral, a visible surge of energy enveloped her.
Milotic's already formidable defenses hardened further, her latent power swelled, and an almost imperceptible sharpening of her gaze indicated her accuracy had become pinpoint precise. She was not just defending; she was preparing.
Steven narrowed his eyes, sensing the shift in momentum as he ordered, "Excadrill, don't let up! Focus Blast!"
*Shiii*
Excadrill began to gather pure fighting energy, a volatile orb forming between its drills. But Azure countered swiftly, "Milotic, Agile Style Muddy Water!"
*SPLASH*
Milotic reared her head, her magnificent mouth opening to unleash a torrent of turbid, murky water. It spread outwards like a wave, engulfing Excadrill just as it was about to unleash its Focus Blast.
The impact was disorienting, the muddy water stinging and obscuring Excadrill's vision. The volatile orb of fighting energy sputtered, unable to stabilize, and dissipated harmlessly into the sand.
The Muddy Water, however, dealt a heavy, crushing blow to Excadrill, leaving it momentarily stunned and visibly reeling. Steven urged, his voice betraying a hint of urgency, "Excadrill, Drill Run!"
*SPIN*
The subterranean Pokémon, shaking off the immediate impact, gathered itself and launched into a powerful Drill Run, its body spinning like a deadly top, aiming for Milotic's midsection with bone-shattering force.
*CRUNCH*
The attack connected with a sickening crunch, but again, Milotic's enhanced defenses absorbed the brunt of the blow.
The burn from the [Flame Orb] flared, then settled. Azure commanded, "Hang in there, Milotic! Recover!"
*Shiii*
With a serene undulation, Milotic glowed with a soft, restorative light, mending the damage inflicted by the Drill Run as if it were a mere scratch. Milotic was proving to be an impenetrable wall.
Steven, observing this calculated resilience, let out a soft chuckle, reminiscing, "Remarkable, Azure. Absolutely remarkable. This is precisely the tactic Wallace used against me with his Milotic. You've certainly learned from the best."
Azure smiled, a hint of pride in his eyes as he replied humbly, "Indeed, Steven. I've picked up a few tricks on my way. Hoenn has truly pushed me to battle against the best of the best, and I've absorbed every lesson."
Steven chuckled again, a genuine sound of appreciation for his friend's skill, but his gaze sharpened as he returned his focus to the battle. Excadrill's situation was looking dire against Milotic.
Despite its power, it was struggling to make a dent in Milotic's defenses, and the Muddy Water had clearly taken its toll. Azure's voice cut through the sandstorm, "Milotic, Agile Style Hydro Pump!"
*SPLASH*
Milotic began to gather a colossal surge of water, the sheer pressure evident as the liquid within her glowed an ominous blue. Steven barked, a desperate counter, "Now, Excadrill! Use Rapid Spin!"
*SPIN*
Excadrill responded with incredible agility, its drills spinning at an unbelievable velocity. It launched itself forward, creating a whirlwind of force around its body. The Hydro Pump, a colossal wave of water, slammed directly into Excadrill's rapid spin, but instead of being overwhelmed, the attack was met with a defiant whir.
*Wooosh*
The water, instead of exploding against it, was deflected entirely, swirling harmlessly around Excadrill as it continued its rapid rotation. In the process, the sheer momentum of its movement granted it a significant speed boost, increasing its Speed by +1 stage.
Azure tried again, hoping for a physical connection, "Tch! Milotic Strong Style Aqua Tail! Break they're momentum!!"
*SPLASH*
Milotic's long, powerful tail whipped through the air, glowing with aquatic energy, aiming to strike Excadrill with a forceful impact. But Excadrill was ready as Steven ordered, "Counter it with Rapid Spin again!"
*SPIN*
With another burst of speed, it met the incoming tail with a perfectly timed Rapid Spin, overpowering the attack with pure rotational force. The Aqua Tail was nullified, deflected, and Excadrill gained yet another speed boost, now at +2 Speed Stages.
Azure frowned, critical thought brewing in his mind, examining Excadrill intently, 'Excadrill using its Rapid Spin not just as an attack, but as an impenetrable, offensive barrier. Steven trained it well…'
Azure gambled, hoping to exploit any emotional weakness within the ground-steel type, checking it was Male, "Milotic, Attract!"
*Pew*
Milotic fluttered her long, elegant eyelashes, sending a wave of charm towards Excadrill. But the subterranean Pokémon remained ready as Steven ordered, "Rapid Spin!"
*SPIN*
Excadrill, now a whirlwind of motion, simply met the alluring gaze with another frenetic Rapid Spin. The charming aura was instantly dispersed, unable to find purchase on the rapidly rotating Pokémon.
Another +1 Speed Stage for Excadrill, now at a blistering +3 Speed. Azure had to admit, he was amazed as he thought, 'Steven's Excadrill is remarkably effective at deflecting water-based attacks, and its speed was becoming a serious threat. When I get to Unova one day, I'm adding one to my team.'
But he shook his head as Azure had to think fast to defeat it before it became unstoppable. He commanded, hoping the disorienting effect of the attack might break through, "Milotic, Strong Style Water Pulse!"
*SPLASH*
The Tender Pokémon launched spheres of concentrated water, pulsing with disorienting energy. But once again, Steven ordered, "Rapid Spin!"
*SPIN*
Excadrill met each incoming sphere with a flurry of Rapid Spin, its drills becoming a blur. The Water Pulses were negated, turned aside as if they were nothing more than droplets against its rotational force.
Excadrill, gaining yet another surge of adrenaline, reached an astounding +4 Speed Stages. Azure couldn't help but voice his admiration, a genuine compliment amidst the fierce battle, "Truly astounding, Steven. Your Excadrill's mastery of the move Rapid Spin is incredible."
Steven inclined his head slightly, a proud smile gracing his lips as he replied humbly, "Thank you, Azure. It means a lot coming from The Tutor himself. Excadrill has trained extensively to refine that technique."
But the battle wasn't over. Steven's eyes darted between Milotic and his now incredibly fast, yet still wounded, Excadrill.
Steven roared, aiming for the one-hit KO, "Now, Excadrill, unleash Horn Drill!"
*SPIN*
Excadrill, a metallic blur, gathered all its immense power into its primary drill, which began to glow with a terrifying, crimson energy. It launched itself forward, a living projectile bent on impaling Milotic.
Milotic, however, sensed the immense danger. Azure's command was urgent. "Milotic, Dragon Dance!"
*Wooosh*
With an almost imperceptible shift, Milotic's body shimmered with draconic energy. It gracefully twisted, its magnificent form moving with an unexpected burst of speed, effortlessly avoiding the devastating Horn Drill by a hair's breadth.
*BOOOM*
The sheer force of the attack ripped through the sandstorm where Milotic had been a moment before, leaving a crater in the arena floor. The Dragon Dance not only saved Milotic but also granted her a significant boost in both Attack and Speed by +1 Stage.
Azure commanded, seizing the moment, "Now, Hydro Pump, full power!"
*SPLASH*
The colossal surge of water, enhanced by the Dragon Dance, erupted from Milotic's mouth, a concentrated blast aimed squarely at the momentarily exposed Excadrill. Steven snapped, his voice sharp with urgency, "Protect!"
*CLANG*
In the nick of time, just as the Hydro Pump was about to engulf it, Excadrill managed to erect a shimmering, emerald-green barrier, blocking the attack entirely. The force of the Hydro Pump shattered against the shield, sending spraying water everywhere, but Excadrill remained safe behind it.
Azure muttered, a knowing glint in his eye, "Not ready to throw in the towel, are we? Milotic, Rain Dance!"
*RMBL*
Milotic began to glow, and the swirling sandstorm in the arena started to coalesce and dissipate, replaced by a soft, refreshing drizzle. The sand, heavy with moisture, clumped and settled in rainfall...
*Drip*
*Drip*
The very air changed, becoming clearer, as it washed away the grit. Excadrill's Sand Force ability, which had bolstered its power, was now nullified, its environmental advantage gone in the rain in Milotic's element.
Steven acknowledged, a hint of frustration in his voice, "Clever move. But you're not done yet, Excadrill! Drill Run, underground!"
*RMBL*
Excadrill, despite the rain, plunged itself into the softened earth with incredible velocity. The ground beneath Milotic began to rumble ominously…
*SPIN*
*SMACK*
Before the elegant Pokémon could react, Excadrill burst forth from directly under its feet, slamming into Milotic with a powerful Drill Run. Milotic recoiled, tossed into the air by the surprise attack. But Excadrill wasn't finished…
*SPIN*
*SMACK*
*SPIN*
*SMACK*
*SPIN*
*SMACK*
Before Milotic could even touch down, it burrowed back into the ground with astonishing speed, only to re-emerge moments later for another searing Drill Run. The sequence repeated relentlessly…
*SPIN*
*SMACK*
*SPIN*
*SMACK*
Milotic was tossed across the field, taking each successive hit. Milotic's serene composure finally cracked under the barrage. The beautiful scales that had deflected so much were now marred by streaks of dirt and grime, her powerful body being battered.
After being pummeled by multiple Drill Runs, Milotic landed heavily on the octagonal stage, winded and panting, but still, almost impossibly, standing. Her magnificent beauty was now a testament to her sheer resilience.
Azure commanded, his voice firm, conveying his unwavering faith, "Recover!"
*Shiii*
Milotic, despite her exhaustion, glowed once more with a soft, restorative light, her injuries slowly mending even as she panted, tired but far from out of the battle. Steven's eyes widened in genuine awe muttered, "Unbelievable... it hasn't fainted yet!"
He had seen countless Pokémon fall to such a barrage. But Azure was the first to make it as he grinned excitedly, ordering, deciding to wrap it up, "Very well, Excadrill, don't hesitate! Metal Claw, finish her!"
*SHINNG*
Excadrill, though also feeling the strain of prolonged battle, surged forward, its metallic claw gleaming. It struck Milotic with a powerful Metal Claw.
But once again, Milotic absorbed the blow with an astonishing lack of effort, a testament to her Marvel Scale and inherent durability. Azure's voice was sharp, cutting through the weary silence, "Again, Recover!"
*Shiii*
Milotic, defiant, initiated another healing process, stubbornly refusing to yield. Steven felt a flicker of exasperation as he thought admiringly of his opponent, 'This Milotic truly is a masterpiece of defensive training. Azure has trained it well in under 80 days. But I'm afraid good training isn't enough to win here, old friend…'
He ordered, aiming for another high-power strike, "Excadrill, Drill Run!"
*SPIN*
Excadrill launched itself once more, drills spinning, directly at Milotic. But this time, Azure had anticipated it. He smirked, ordering, "Now! Agile Style Wrap!"
*Zoooom*
As Excadrill closed the distance, Milotic, with an unexpected surge of agility despite her weariness, moved. Instead of taking the hit, she gracefully coiled around Excadrill's spinning form, catching the Subterrene Pokémon mid-attack!
Now, caught in Milotic's powerful embrace, Excadrill struggled, its drills still whirring, trying to break free. Both Pokémon were equally matched in their raw strength, locked in a desperate wrestling match, each trying to overpower the other, to force it to the ground as Milotic's serpentine body tightened around Excadrill's body.
Azure then ordered, "Now! Strong Style! Scald!"
*SPLASH*
Then, with a sudden, decisive movement, Milotic's mouth opened wide. A burst of scalding hot water erupted from within, a potent Scald attack delivered at point-blank range.
Excadrill cried out in pain, the superheated water searing its metallic hide. It reeled back, staggering, finally breaking free from Milotic's hold. It stood for a moment, trembling, then dropped to one knee, visibly scorched and severely weakened.
Seeing the chance, Azure ordered, "Now! End it with Water Pulse, girl!"
*Shiii*
Milotic, empowered by her successful counter, began to charge another attack, her body shimmering as she gathered energy for a Water Pulse. But Steven's voice was a desperate roar, pouring all his belief into his beleaguered partner, "Not yet, Excadrill! One last effort! Horn Drill, straight ahead!"
*SPIN*
With a defiant cry, Excadrill, despite its injuries, despite the burning pain, pushed itself off the ground. Its drills spun with renewed, desperate fervor, and it charged straight ahead, a metallic spear aimed directly at Milotic's charging Water Pulse…
*KA-BOOOOM*
The two attacks collided in a spectacular explosion of water and earth. Excadrill winced, taking heavy damage from the explosion of water, but its resolve was iron-clad. With a final, herculean effort, it managed to pierce through the dissipating Water Pulse, its high-speed-rotating horn slamming directly into Milotic's body.
*SPIN*
The move connected with devastating force, a single, decisive blow that bypassed Milotic's vaunted defenses and struck at her vital core. The beautiful water-type Pokémon cried out once, a mournful sound, before her body sagged, her eyes losing their luster, "MIIIILLL… (No! I was… so…)"
*Thud*
Milotic collapsed onto the stage, defeated. Just as she fell, the rain that Milotic had summoned began to fade, the last drops dissolving into the still-damp air.
Azure nodded, a profound sense of respect in his gaze as he recalled Milotic to her Poké Ball as he whispered thankfully, "You were magnificent, Milotic. Thank you for your incredible effort in this battle."
He clipped her ball back to his belt, then reached for another as he thought, 'The champion battle was far from over.'
Azure called out, "Gardevoir, it's your turn!"
*Pop*
A flash of light, and the elegant, emerald Gardevoir appeared on the stage, her held item, a [Twisted Spoon], glowing softly, amplifying her psychic power. Her gaze was focused, empathetic, yet brimming with fierce determination.
Steven, still recovering from the intense Milotic vs. Excadrill battle, quickly regained his composure. He ordered, hoping to maintain momentum despite his Pokémon's exhaustion, "Excadrill, one more time! Drill Run!"
*SPIN*
Excadrill, battered but not yet out, plunged into the ground one last time. But Gardevoir, sensing the attack, merely twirled as Azure commanded, "Teleport."
*Swf*
With a graceful, almost ethereal shimmer, Gardevoir vanished, reappearing instantly on the opposite side of the octagonal stage, effortlessly avoiding the subterranean assault. Excadrill burst forth from the ground, only to find nothing where its target had been.
Before it could reorient itself, Azure's voice rang out, clear and decisive, "Gardevoir, Magical Leaf, focused strike!"
*PEW*
Gardevoir extended a slender hand, and a single, emerald-green leaf materialized, pulsing with an intense psychic energy. This was no ordinary Magical Leaf. With a silent, terrifying acceleration, the leaf launched itself forward…
*CRACK*
… It broke the sound barrier with a sharp crack, the sudden, unexpected sonic boom startling Steven and sending a ripple of shock through the arena. The sheer speed of the projectile was staggering, an emerald bullet cutting through the air.
*SMACK*
Excadrill, already exhausted and disoriented, had no time to react. The hyper-accelerated Magical Leaf struck it full-on, delivering a catastrophic psychic impact. The mighty ground-steel type cried out, its metallic body sparking violently.
*Thud*
It collapsed, its drills ceasing their spin, utterly defeated. Steven stared, wide-eyed, at his fallen Excadrill, then back at Gardevoir, a newfound respect dawning in his expression, seeing the move in action.
He murmured, recalling his valiant Excadrill examining Azure with a glint of excitement in his eyes, "Incredible... a single Magical Leaf... that speed... just like your first time in the Indigo League matches those years ago…"
The champion battle had just reached an entirely new level of intensity. The score now stood at 4-4 Pokémon left on each side. Both Champions realized, as they slyly grinned, it would be the greatest battle they would have in the past few years as their eyes shone fiercely determined to win, igniting their fighting spirits…
