Chapter 342 - Chapter 342: Elite Four Dragon Battle

Chapter 342: Elite Four Dragon Battle

~Third POV~

[Hoenn Region, Pokémon League (Hoenn) – Drake's Room]

The journey through the Elite Four had been a cascade of triumphs. Defeating those 3 former Champion-level trainers that Hoenn had to offer. Each victory had been hard-won, a testament to Azure's strategic brilliance and his partners' unwavering loyalty, pushing him ever closer to the pinnacle.

Now, only one stood between him and the Champion's chamber: Drake, the Dragon-type specialist. Azure pushed through the final gate, the atmosphere shifting dramatically. The polished marble gave way to rough-hewn stone, bathed in an ominous red glow.

The path narrowed, leading to a precarious stone bridge that spanned a vast, churning pool of molten lava. Heat shimmered off the viscous orange surface, and the air grew thick with the metallic tang of sulfur.

On either side, deep pits, also filled with the searing magma, stretched into the gloom, sharp, obsidian spikes glinting menacingly from their depths. As Azure stepped onto the bridge, two jets of flame erupted from the lava, arcing upwards to converge into the gaping maw of a colossal stone dragon head statue, its nostrils flaring as if breathing fire itself.

The entire chamber felt like the belly of a sleeping beast, ancient and formidable. Against the far wall, a sturdy, red-brown armchair rested, and in it sat the Dragon Master of Hoenn. Drake was a man cast from granite, tall and muscular, his age betrayed only by the distinguished white mustache that framed a perpetually stern mouth.

He wore the black, sailor-like clothes characteristic of his seafaring heritage, adding an air of weathered authority. As Azure's gaze met his, Drake offered a slow, cocky grin, a silent challenge in his eyes.

His grin widened, a challenge in itself. Drake rumbled, his voice like the grinding of tectonic plates, "Well, well. You've cut through my colleagues like butter, young man. A true whirlwind of a Trainer. But this Dragon Master awaits. A six-on-six battle, if you're up to it."

Azure merely nodded, a calm acceptance settling over him. He took his position on the bridge, the heat of the lava a palpable force beneath his feet.

Gazing at Drake, Azure felt the subtle pressure of facing a true master. He'd read the profiles: Drake was stern, often lost in deep concentration, a trait that lent him unparalleled clarity in battle. He meticulously observed his opponent's strategies, often rewarding out-of-the-box thinkers with his respect.

Azure knew he was being scrutinized, every move, every subtle micro-expression analyzed. It was exhilarating for him.

Drake took a deep, theatrical breath, then exhaled slowly, the sound almost a sigh of anticipation as he said respectfully, "I've heard tales from afar, young lad. Tales of a Trainer who tamed the Dragon Lord himself... A feat few can even dream of. I confess, a part of me believes it when I see the look in your eye. But another part… another part wants to see how you became a worthy partner to the Dragon Lord. I want to see your strength firsthand."

He adjusted the brim of his sailor's cap, his gaze unyielding. Azure couldn't help but grin, a spark of pure excitement igniting in his eyes.

Rayquaza was a story for another time, another challenge. After Drake, it would be Steven, the Champion himself. But he had to focus. The present demanded his undivided attention, every ounce of his skill, and every spark of his partners' power.

He was here to conquer Hoenn, and Drake was the final gatekeeper.

Azure declared, his voice cutting through the sounds of the roaring flames and bubbling lava battlefield, "Then let's begin this battle, Drake! I'll defeat you and claim the Champion throne from Steven!"

Drake's grin softened into a respectful smirk as he replied, "Bold words, boy. Let's see if your Pokémon can back them up."

He drew a Poké Ball from his belt, the familiar flash of red light declared, "Kingdra, show him the might of the sea dragon!"

*Pop*

A majestic Kingdra materialized, its serpentine body shimmering with a deep blue hue. Around its neck, a faint glint indicated its held item: a [Scope Lens], poised to capitalize on its Sniper Ability.

Azure, not to be outdone, made his own call, hurling his Poke Ball in the air, roaring, "Salamence, let's show them the true power of the skies!"

*Pop*

With a burst of light and a guttural roar, Salamence appeared, its formidable wings unfurling, its scales gleaming, its held item [Salamencite] pulsating faintly. The air crackled with raw power and fury.

Drake commanded, his voice sharp now, fully immersed in the intense battle, "Kingdra, Hydro Pump!"

*SPLASH*

The sea dragon coiled, then unleashed a torrent of pressurized water that roared across the lava bridge, aimed squarely at Salamence. But Azure countered, his voice steady, "Salamence, Agile Style Flamethrower!"

*Sssss*

Salamence met the incoming water with a searing wave of fire. The two attacks collided in a spectacular explosion of steam and scalding water, momentarily obscuring both Pokémon for a moment.

*BOOOM*

When the mist cleared, both stood firm, though Kingdra had visibly recoiled. Drake conceded, a flicker of genuine respect in his eyes, "Impressive power, boy. That Flamethrower packed a punch."

Azure pressed his advantage as he ordered, "Salamence, Dragon Rush!"

*Zoooom*

Salamence transformed into a streaking comet of draconic energy, barreling towards Kingdra with astonishing speed. Drake, however, was no novice as he countered, "Kingdra, Dragon Rush, meet him head-on!"

*Zooom*

Kingdra, despite its aquatic nature, surged forward, mirroring Salamence's attack. The two dragons met in the middle of the bridge, a deafening crash echoing through the chamber of Drake's Room.

*BOOOOM*

The impact created a visible, concussive shockwave that rippled across the lava, sending ripples of fire outward, momentarily disturbing the fiery dragon head statue. Both attacks, perfectly executed, nullified each other, a testament to the power of both Pokémon and their trainers abilities.

Azure called, shifting tactics, "Dragon Pulse, Salamence!"

*PEW*

Salamence gathered draconic energy, firing a pulsating orb of power. But Drake retorted, "Agility, Kingdra!"

*Zooom*

Kingdra, with an almost supernatural burst of speed, swirled out of the attack's path, leaving a blue afterimage. Its movements became noticeably quicker, its Speed stat now boosted by +2 stages.

Drake pressed, eyes gleaming, "Now, Kingdra, Dragon Pulse!"

*PEW*

Before Kingdra could unleash its own draconic energy, Azure's voice rang out, "Dragon Dance, Salamence!"

*Fwp*

*Swooosh*

Salamence twisted in mid-air, a graceful, powerful maneuver that allowed it to effortlessly dodge Kingdra's incoming Dragon Pulse. As it completed the dance, its body pulsed with renewed vigor, its Attack and Speed stats each increasing by +1 stage. This wasn't just a dodge; it was a power-up.

Drake narrowed his eyes as he pressed on, "Clever. Kingdra, Swift!"

*PEW*

Golden, star-shaped projectiles erupted from Kingdra, arcing towards Salamence. Azure commanded, thinking quickly, "Tailwind, Salamence!"

*FWP*

*SWOOOSH*

Salamence flapped its immense wings, not just creating a strong gust of wind but also positioning itself perfectly. The Tailwinds generated not only blocked Kingdra's Swift, sending the stars scattering uselessly, but also bathed Azure's side of the field in a faint, swift-moving current of wind, granting his Pokémon a crucial priority in speed for the next few critical minutes of combat.

Azure seized the initiative, "Agile Style Dragon Claw, Salamence!"

*Zooom*

Salamence descended, its claws glowing with draconic energy, aiming to strike. Drake's voice was urgent and ordered, "Agility again, Kingdra!"

*Zooom*

Kingdra, now moving with blur-like speed, once again danced out of the way, its Speed stat climbing to a formidable +4 stages. It was a whirlwind of motion.

But with Salamence near Drake smirked. Drake saw an opening, hoping to exploit Salamence's Dragon/Flying typing, and ordered, "Ice Beam, Kingdra!"

*PEW*

A chilling beam of ice energy shot from Kingdra's mouth. But Azure anticipated, countered, "Strong Style Flamethrower!"

*Ssssss*

Salamence roared, unleashing another torrent of fire that coalesced into a fiery shield, intercepting and dissolving the Ice Beam mid-air. Drake mentally noted the pattern as he thought cautiously, 'He wasn't just dodging; his actively blocking attacks that had a type advantage or could cause significant harm to his Dragon, conserving its energy where possible…'

Drake knew he needed to change tactics, as direct assaults weren't yielding results against Salamence's agility and Azure's quick thinking. Drake decided on brute force, "Hydro Pump, Kingdra, maximum power!"

*SPLASH*

A truly gargantuan blast of water erupted from Kingdra, a wall of liquid force. Azure ordered, expecting the usual agile maneuver, "Dragon Dance, Salamence, dodge!"

*SMACK*

But this time, Kingdra's earlier Agility boosts, combined with the sheer size and speed of the Hydro Pump, proved too much. Salamence tried to twist, but the colossal wave caught it, slamming it against the fiery side of the bridge.

Salamence cried out, slightly stunned, its defenses clearly breached, "Graoo!!"

Drake yelled, seizing the moment of vulnerability, "Now! Hyper Beam!"

*Shiii*

A terrifying, concentrated energy beam began to coalesce in Kingdra's mouth, a sure one-hit knockout if it connected. But Azure roared, a desperate, commanding tone, "Dragon Dance, now!"

*PEW*

… Despite the hit, Salamence, fueled by its bond with Azure, mustered every ounce of its strength. With an incredible burst of adrenaline, it executed a strained, powerful Dragon Dance, twisting out of the Hyper Beam's path with mere inches to spare…

*Swooosh*

… The raw energy of the Hyper Beam scorched the air where Salamence had been an instant before. Salamence, now having gained another +1 to Attack and Speed, stood at an impressive +3 in both stats, having used its free turn during Kingdra's recharge.

Azure saw his chance and ordered, "Strong Style Outrage, Salamence!"

*THUD*

Salamence landed heavily on the floor, its eyes glowing a furious, baleful red. But instead of charging in with raw physical force, a massive, swirling ball of pure draconic energy erupted from its mouth, crackling with uncontrolled power….

*Shiii*

Drake's eyes narrowed as he thought, 'The energy form of Outrage, huh?'

This wasn't the typical close-quarters Outrage; it was a focused, long-range detonation of rage, a tactical adaptation of the usually reckless move. The ball of energy screamed across the bridge, slamming into Kingdra with devastating force.

*KA-BOOOOM*

The impact was cataclysmic. A blinding explosion detonated around Kingdra, sending a plume of smoke and debris high into the air.

Drake raised an eyebrow, genuinely surprised by this unconventional use of Outrage, but knew the backlash for a Confusion Status Condition. As the smoke began to swirl and clear, revealing an almost certainly dazed Kingdra…

But through the smoke, Azure's next command came, "Now, Salamence! Slam your head into the ground!"

Salamence, still under the effects of Outrage's inevitable confusion, hesitated for a split second, its eyes still glowing red, its movements erratic. But then, Azure's voice, clear and commanding even amidst its rage, cut through the haze…

*SLAM*

Obeying purely on instinct and a deep trust, Salamence roared and deliberately slammed its head against the stone bridge. The jarring impact, though briefly painful, shocked it back to full awareness, clearing the confusion from its mind.

Drake's smirk returned, a flicker of admiration in his eyes murmured, "A fascinating tactic. Grounding the rage… I've never seen that before."

But the smoke had fully cleared, revealing Kingdra slumped and unmoving on the bridge, unmistakably defeated. As Kingdra faded, a powerful surge of energy coursed through Salamence…

*Shiii*

Its Hidden Ability, Moxie, was activated, and its Attack stat soared by another stage, bringing it to an astounding +4 Attack and +3 Speed. Drake chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound, as he recalled Kingdra as he complimented them, "An excellent beginning, young man. To overcome Kingdra's speed and power, and that clever trick to bypass Outrage's confusion… truly exceptional."

He paused, then his eyes glinted with newfound determination as he added, "But the dragon's fury has only just begun to stir!"

He threw another Poké Ball as he declared, "Haxorus, let us see your might!"

*Pop*

A formidable Haxorus, its tusks gleaming, materialized on the battlefield. Around its bicep was its held item, a subtle band was visible – a [Muscle Band], enhancing its already fearsome physical attacks.

Azure commanded, eager to capitalize on his Dragon's amplified stats, "Strong Style Dragon Rush, Salamence!"

*Zoooom*

Salamence, a flying green and blue missile, charged forward, its +4 Attack stat making it an almost unstoppable force. Adding its Tailwind, even using Strong Style, it would be the first to land the attack.

Drake knew this, though, as he thought, 'Gotta take it out of the fight.'

*BOOOM*

The Dragon Rush slammed into Haxorus with brutal power. Haxorus gritted its teeth, a low growl escaping its maw, taking the hit with remarkable resilience.

Drake commanded, capitalizing on the moment Haxorus endured the attack, "Now! Roar, Haxorus!"

Haxorus let out a deafening roar, a sonic wave that washed over Salamence, "HAAAX!! (GET OFF!!)"

The force of the sound, augmented by its sheer power, physically pushed Salamence backward, overwhelming its will to fight. In a flash of red light, Salamence was forcibly recalled to its Poké Ball.

Azure felt a fleeting pang of frustration, knowing the next Pokémon would be a random draw from his remaining five as he thought, 'Shit! Not the situation to be in. Oh, RNG Jesus, please don't fuck me over!'

*Pop*

The Poké Ball on Azure's belt nearest his hand clicked open, a red light emerging. The Pokémon it revealed was a shimmering, elegant form – Milotic. Its beautiful, serpentine body materialized, its scales glowing faintly.

Almost immediately, the [Flame Orb] it held activated, inflicting a burn on Milotic. But this was no accident; it was part of Azure's strategy.

Milotic's Ability, Marvel Scale, instantly activated, boosting its already impressive Defense stat significantly. Drake mused, a flicker of surprise crossing his face, "Milotic, huh? But if it was trained like Wallace's Milotic…"

As the thought entered his mind, his eyes hardened. Drake saw an immediate opportunity to capitalize on the element of surprise, "A peculiar choice, but one I can respect. Haxorus, end this! Guillotine!"

*Zooom*

Haxorus lunged forward as its tusks on its mouth glowed and turned light draconic green energy. The attack came swiftly, aiming to one-hit KO Milotic and force Azure a Pokémon down. But Azure merely grinned.

Milotic, still gracefully levitating above the floor, sensed the attack. Being momentarily stunned by its sudden appearance on the field, its reactionary training, honed in the Secret Meadow, kicked in before Azure could even vocalize a command…

*Swooosh*

With an astonishingly fluid movement, Milotic instinctively performed a Dragon Dance, its body flowing like water, elegantly dodging the powerful Guillotine by a hair's breadth, and with Tailwind active, managed to move first. As it completed the maneuver, a surge of power coursed through it, boosting its Attack and Speed by +1 stage each.

Drake's eyes narrowed, a genuine perplexity in his gaze as he murmured to himself in disbelief, "The way that fish moved… it was as if it was used to it by instinct. What kind of training did you put your Pokémon through to react just mere inches away from an attack like that…?"

Azure's grin widened with pride. He knew precisely what kind of training. Back in the Secret Meadow, his Hoenn team had faced the relentless fury of the Regi Trio, the destructive power of the Weather Trio, and the seasoned experience of his Kanto and Johto veteran teams.

They had been pushed to their absolute limits, learning to anticipate, react, and adapt without conscious thought. Milotic had developed an almost preternatural awareness of its surroundings.

Azure praised, allowing a rare moment of overt approval for his partner's quick thinking, "Excellent, Milotic! Now, your own Dragon Tail! Strong Style!"

*Swoosh*

Milotic, now shimmering with increased speed and power, coiled and then unleashed its own graceful yet powerful Dragon Tail. The blow landed squarely on Haxorus, sending both Pokémon skidding back a few paces.

*SMACK*

Haxorus let out an annoyed growl, clearly irritated by the unexpected counter. Drake felt a similar annoyance but quickly composed himself, "Roar, Haxorus! Send it away!"

Haxorus let out another thundering roar, intending to force Milotic back as it had Salamence, "HAXXXX!!! (FUCK OFF!!)"

But Azure smirked, hearing this as he thought, 'Sorry, Drake. Not this time.'

Azure countered immediately, "Safeguard, Milotic!"

*Shiii*

Milotic glowed with a soft, protective light, summoning a shimmering barrier around itself. To Drake's shock, the booming Roar washed over Milotic's barrier harmlessly, having no effect at all against the Safeguard.

Drake blinked, confused. He muttered to himself, confused by the scene, "How… how could Roar not work? Safeguard is supposed to block status conditions, not sound-based displacement moves!"

Seeing Drake's confusion, Azure's grin tightened, a touch of pride in his strategy. He thought to himself, 'Only a few trainers know this, but Safeguard, while excellent for status condition protection, also forms a unique soundproof barrier. If a move like Roar can't be heard, it can't take effect. Thank you, anime, for the knowledge…'

It was a niche detail, a hidden property discovered through extensive research and practical application. Utilizing this split-second lapse in Drake's concentration, and with Haxorus still reeling from Salamence's empowered Dragon Rush and Milotic's Dragon Tail, Azure pressed hard, "Strong Style Dragon Pulse, Milotic! Finish it!"

*PEW*

Milotic gathered a magnificent orb of draconic energy, its serene beauty contrasting sharply with the destructive power it wielded. The Dragon Pulse launched, striking Haxorus directly as it took the super-effective attack.

*BOOOM*

The powerful Dragon-type Pokémon roared in pain, struggling against the intense energy as it could no longer take it. Haxorus, eliciting a cry of pain before the mighty Dragon-type collapsed, defeated.

*Thud*

Drake sighed, a heavy sound that seemed to carry the weight of the lava-filled chamber. He recalled Haxorus, his expression now serious, his casual smirk replaced with grim determination staring at him.

He had underestimated Azure's resourcefulness, his depth of knowledge, and the sheer training his Pokémon had endured. Two down, four of his own remaining. He knew he had to turn this around, and quickly. The fight was far from over.

Drake's grin had lessened, replaced by a glint of fierce determination. He boomed, hurling his next Pokémon, "Let's see how you handle true grace, then! Go, Altaria!"

*Pop*

From its Poké Ball, a magnificent Altaria soared into the fiery arena, its cloud-like wings unfurling, its body adorned with the powerful aura of its [Dragon Fang] held item. Drake commanded, wasting no time, "Altaria, Dragon Rush!"

*Zooom*

The Humming Pokémon folded its wings, becoming a feathered projectile, hurtling towards Milotic with incredible speed, wreathed in draconic energy. Azure ordered calmly, his voice cutting through the roar of Altaria's descent, "Milotic, Aqua Ring!"

*Splash*

Milotic cried out, a melodic sound that resonated through the chamber as it canceled its Safeguard. Rings of shimmering water began to encircle its body, healing and refreshing it even as Altaria slammed into it with devastating force.

*BOOOM*

Milotic was thrown back, skidding across the stone bridge, but the Aqua Ring held, shimmering valiantly, already beginning its restorative work. Drake frowned as he pressed on, "Impressive defense, but not enough! Disarming Voice!"

*SCREEE*

Altaria let out a piercing, sonic scream. The sound waves were so powerful that they ripped through the very fabric of the battlefield, sending jagged pieces of stone and debris flying in their wake.

*Smack*

One particularly large shard struck Milotic, momentarily staggering the graceful Pokémon and leaving it vulnerable. Drake pressed his advantage, his eyes gleaming as he ordered, "Now, Dragon Pulse!"

*PEW*

Altaria gathered iridescent draconic energy, firing a potent beam directly at the reeling Milotic. Azure's command was firm, trusting his partner's resilience, "Tank the attack, Milotic! Then use Recover!"

*BOOOM*

Milotic braced itself, taking the full brunt of the Dragon Pulse. The impact was immense, knocking the Water-type clear off its feet, sending it crashing dangerously close to the edge of the lava pit.

*Shiii*

But even as it landed, Milotic's body glowed with restorative light, its Recover move swiftly mending the damage, its Aqua Ring still shimmering, countering the effects of the [Flame Orb's] burn.

Drake's frown deepened, a flicker of recognition in his eyes. His voice held a grudging respect, acknowledging Azure's mastery, especially if he had learned from such renowned Water-type users, "That strategy… Juan's, even Wallace's! Using Milotic's bulk to tank, then Recover, with Aqua Ring nullifying the burn. A classic, but effective."

Drake roared, determined to break the rhythmic healing, "We won't let you set up your stall! Another Disarming Voice! Batter the field!"

*SCREEE*

Altaria unleashed another ear-splitting shriek, shattering more of the stone bridge, sending a new wave of debris flying. The arena groaned under the assault.

Azure commanded, his plan forming, "Milotic, counter with Dragon Pulse!"

*PEW*

Milotic let out a defiant cry, channeling an emerald beam of energy. But instead of focusing on Altaria, the beam split in mid-air, a torrent of smaller draconic shards that intercepted the incoming debris, pulverizing it into dust.

*BOOOM*

A few of the split pulses, however, continued their trajectory, striking Altaria directly. The Humming Pokémon recoiled with a pained screech, its attack halted, pain momentarily overriding its momentum.

Milotic's tactic had been successful. Seizing the opening, Azure pressed on, "Strong Style Dragon Pulse!"

*PEW*

Milotic gathered its energy, a brilliant emerald light at its mouth, and unleashed a powerful Dragon Pulse straight at Altaria. But Drake was quick as he countered, "Altaria, charge your own Dragon Pulse!"

*PEW*

Altaria, though still smarting, shook its head, responding to its trainer's urgency, and began to charge its own attack. Both attacks clashed, resulting in a brilliant explosion…

*BOOOM*

Both Dragon Pulses lanced across the arena simultaneously, meeting in a dazzling explosion of green light and draconic energy. The force of the impact rocked the entire chamber, sending tremors through the stone floor.

Both Pokémon were knocked back, having taken clean, head-on hits. As the echoes of the twin pulses faded, the faint, shimmering aura of Azure's Tailwind dissipated. The speed advantage was gone.

Drake barked, seeing his opportunity, "Now, Altaria, Dragon Rush!"

*Zooom*

Altaria, recovering quickly, folded its wings once more, becoming a living spear, hurtling towards Milotic with renewed ferocity. Azure countered, his voice sharp, "Milotic, now's our chance! Agile Style Dragon Tail!"

*Whip*

Milotic whipped its magnificent, serpentine tail, glowing with draconic power, directly into Altaria's path. Both moves hit their mark with bone-jarring force.

*BAM*

Altaria's Dragon Rush slammed into Milotic's already battered body, while Milotic's Dragon Tail delivered a powerful, super-effective blow to Altaria. The Humming Pokémon cried out in agony, reeling from the direct hit.

Azure ordered immediately, "Recover!"

*SHiii*

Milotic, battered but resilient, glowed once more, its health and stamina surging back. Altaria, however, was not so fortunate. The super-effective Dragon Tail had taken a significant toll, robbing it of nearly half its remaining stamina.

Drake's eyes narrowed, a painful flash of memory, a phantom image of Champion Wallace standing where Azure now stood, Milotic's grace and power a mirror reflection. His jaw tightened, determination hardening his gaze as he thought bitterly, 'I would not fall the same way again…'

Drake reached for Altaria's Poké Ball, preparing for a tactical recall. But Azure, having learned from every battle, especially those against the formidable Water-type specialists like Wallace, wasn't about to give Drake the courtesy.

Azure commanded, his voice devoid of mercy, "Milotic, Agile Style Whirlpool!"

*SWIRL*

Milotic let out a triumphant roar. From the lava pool below, a massive vortex of water erupted, swirling with incredible speed and force.

It surged upward, engulfing the wounded Altaria, trapping it within its churning depths. Drake's recall beam, a desperate crimson light, shot out towards his Pokémon, but it couldn't penetrate the powerful current of the Whirlpool.

The move's inescapable grip held Altaria fast, preventing its recall. Drake gritted his teeth, his face a mask of frustration.

His Altaria was trapped, but not helpless. He saw a window, a gamble he had to take as he roared, "Altaria, Sky Attack! Break through!"

*FWP*

Altaria, caught in the Whirlpool, began to glow with a fierce, ethereal energy, charging the powerful Flying-type move. The Whirlpool thrashed around it, but the sheer force of the charging attack began to visibly strain the water current, threatening to tear it apart.

Azure ordered, already anticipating the break, "Rain Dance, Milotic!"

*RMBL*

Milotic cried out again, and the chamber's oppressive heat was suddenly replaced by a rapidly forming raincloud, dark and heavy, directly above the arena. Within moments, a torrential downpour began to drench the battleground, washing over the stone floor and the scorching lava alike.

*BOOOM*

Finally, Altaria's charge climaxed. With a mighty burst of energy, it shattered the remaining Whirlpool and launched itself forward, a white-feathered missile, aiming to strike Milotic with devastating force.

Azure shouted, "Protect!"

*CLANG*

Milotic shimmered, a translucent green barrier forming just as Altaria impacted it. The Sky Attack crashed against the shield, dissipating harmlessly.

Azure pressed, "Now, Flip Turn!"

*SMACK*

Before Altaria could recover, Milotic coiled and struck with its powerful tail, imbued with water energy. It slammed into Altaria, sending the Humming Pokémon spiraling away, then, in a flash of blue light, Milotic returned to its Poké Ball.

Azure declared, "Go, Salamence!"

*Pop*

With a brilliant flash, his mighty Dragon-type soared into the rain-soaked arena. A vibrant [Salamencite] pulsed on its body, signifying its immediate readiness for Mega Evolution if Azure chose that path.

Drake's frown deepened. He watched as the rain continued to fall, soaking Altaria's once fluffy, cloud-like wings.

They sagged, heavy and sodden, losing their buoyancy. The Flying-type, now literally grounded by the deluge, struggled to regain its aerial advantage as Drake thought with his cap shadowing his face, 'The rain, brought by Azure's Milotic, had become a crucial tactical element. He ensured my Altaria wouldn't fly when Sky Attack was done…'

Azure commanded, capitalizing on the weather, "Time to end this! Strong Style Hurricane, Salamence!"

*FWP*

*SWOOOOSH*

Salamence let out a guttural roar, beating its mighty wings, stirring the rain into a furious vortex that ripped across the arena, a raging tempest of wind and water. Altaria, heavy-winged and vulnerable, was caught in the eye of the storm.

*THUD*

The Hurricane slammed into it, tossing the majestic Pokémon helplessly through the air. It crumpled, landing hard on the stone floor, its eyes spiraling. Altaria had fainted and could no longer continue to battle.

Drake clenched his fist, his expression grim. 3 Pokémon down, and Azure still had all six. But the taste of victory was still bitter, as Salamence's Hidden Ability, Moxie, activated. Azure's Dragon-type roared, its attack power surging, gaining a significant boost by +1 Attack Stage.

Drake said, his voice low, recalling his fallen partner, "Return, Altaria."

He took a deep breath, his eyes scanning Azure's powerful Salamence, then his own remaining Poké Balls. He grabbed one from his belt and yelled, "You may have grounded my sky, but you haven't seen the depths of my resolve! Go, Dragalge!"

*Pop*

A shadowy Poké Ball flew, releasing a Pokémon that drifted into the rain. It was a Dragalge, its body a tapestry of mottled purples and browns, resembling decaying kelp. It swayed gently in the falling rain, an eerie, predatory aura surrounding its form, its [Black Sludge] held item slowly oozing, rejuvenating its Poison-type cells.

Azure remained on guard, a flicker of caution in his eyes as he thought cautiously, 'This is a shrewd choice. Dragalge, a Poison/Dragon-type, is a formidable counter to my Salamence, especially in this environment. I can't afford to be reckless.'

Azure quickly analyzed the Pokémon briefly with a grim expression on his face as he thought bitterly, 'Dragalge's Special Defense stats are ridiculously high, noted at a staggering 123. A direct Special Attack would likely be laughed off. Physical contact carried a huge risk; was its ability Poison Point, inflicting poison on touch? Or Poison Touch, poisoning on any contact? Even worse, if it were its Hidden Ability, Adaptability, Dragalge's Dragon moves would be supercharged. Not only that, but its Poison typing offered crucial coverage against potential Fairy-type threats, like Gardevoir.'

Drake smirked, a knowing glint in his eyes. He knew Azure was calculating. He also knew his Dragalge possessed Poison Point.

A nasty surprise awaited any physical attacker. He wondered how Azure would navigate this toxic predicament.

Azure decided to play it safe, for now, as he commanded, "Salamence, long range for now! Strong Style Hurricane!"

*FWP*

*SWOOOSH*

The powerful Dragon of the sky roared, once again whipping up a furious gale of wind and rain. In the downpour, Hurricane was guaranteed to hit.

Drake retaliated with equal speed, "Dragalge, Thunder!"

*ZZZZZT*

Utilizing the very rain Azure's Milotic had summoned for his advantage, Dragalge crackled with raw electricity, unleashing a blinding bolt of Thunder. It too was guaranteed to hit in the rain that Milotic created.

*BOOOOM*

Both powerful attacks lanced across the arena. Salamence's Hurricane slammed into Dragalge, tossing its kelp-like body, while Dragalge's Thunder struck Salamence, a searing white-hot bolt against its scales.

Both trainers watched intently, realizing that these moves, despite their power, dealt only neutral damage to their respective Dragon-types. However, as the dust settled, a new problem arose for Dragalge.

The violent impact of the Hurricane had left it reeling, clearly confused. It swayed erratically, its eyes glazed.

Drake's smirk twitched, but he recovered quickly, taking a page directly from Azure's book, a strategy he'd seen Azure use with his own Pokémon. He smugly grinned, ordering shamelessly, "Heh. I'll take a page out of your tactics, brat. Dragalge, slam your head against the ground! Clear the confusion!"

*SLAM*

With a guttural groan, Dragalge did just that, shaking its head violently and then striking its head against the stone bridge with a dull thud. The glazed look in its eyes cleared, replaced by renewed focus.

Azure's eyes twitched, seeing his own tactic used against him as Drake chuckled, a dry, triumphant sound, "Hahaha!! Thanks for the tip, Challenger! Now, let's show you what you taught me! Thunder, again!"

*ZZZZZZT*

Dragalge crackled once more, preparing another guaranteed electrical assault. Azure observed the move, his grin twitching slightly at Drake's boast as he murmured, "Tch. Touche, old timer. It was fair play, but I wouldn't be caught off guard twice."

Looking at the sky at the looming Thunder incoming, Azure countered, "Salamence, ground yourself! Steel Wing!"

*SHINNG*

Salamence let out a defiant roar. As the Thunder surged towards it, the Dragon slammed its powerful, steel-hard wings against the ground, anchoring itself firmly. The electrical charge, instead of arcing through its body, flowed harmlessly into the earth, dissipating without effect. Salamence had grounded itself, absorbing the attack.

But this ingenious counter came at a cost. Salamence was now forced into ground battles, unable to take its wings off the ground for fear of another devastating Thunder strike, with the chance of Paralyze into play.

Azure knew he had to switch tactics, forcing close combat despite the risk. Azure commanded, deciding the chance for poison was worth the potential freeze, "Salamence, Strong Style Ice Fang!"

*Zooom*

Salamence lunged forward, its fangs glowing with icy energy, a cold mist trailing behind it. Drake, anticipating the shift to physical combat, was ready as he ordered calmly, "Dragalge, Dragon Pulse!"

*PEW*

Dragalge met the charge, firing a concentrated beam of draconic energy directly at Salamence's approaching jaws. There was a fierce clash…

*CRUNCH*

Salamence's Ice Fang ripped into Dragalge's side, the frosty bite dealing considerable damage. But Salamence didn't escape unharmed…

*BOOOM*

… Simultaneously, Dragalge's Dragon Pulse slammed into Salamence, a reciprocal blow. But as Salamence pulled back, a purple sheen spread across its scales. The tell-tale signs of poison. Dragalge's Poison Point ability had activated.

Drake's face held a grim satisfaction, but it quickly contorted into a frown. Despite the poison now coursing through Salamence's veins, Dragalge had paid a heavy price…

*CRACKLE*

The Ice Fang had done its work; patches of ice now spread across Dragalge's body, immobilizing it. It was frozen solid.

Azure's voice boomed, seizing the advantage, "Now, Salamence! Finish it with Strong Style Dragon Rush!"

*Zooom*

Salamence roared, its eyes blazing with renewed ferocity. It folded its wings back, despite its grounded state, gathering an immense amount of draconic energy. With a powerful surge, it launched itself forward, a living, breathing dragonic meteor, straight towards the frozen Dragalge.

*BOOOOM*

The impact was cataclysmic. A blinding explosion of green and purple energy erupted, shaking the very foundations of the Elite Four chamber.

Smoke and steam billowed, momentarily obscuring the two dragons. When the haze finally cleared, Dragalge lay motionless on the battlefield, its body partially encased in ice, its eyes vacant.

Dragalge fainted as Azure let out a slow, controlled breath as he thought, 'Four Dragon-types down, 2 of Drake's Pokémon left.

The battle was far from over, but Azure had proven, once again, that his strategic prowess and the unwavering spirit of his partners could overcome even the most formidable of foes. Salamence, though poisoned, stood victorious, its Moxie-boosted power now a truly intimidating force at +2 Attack.

Drake's cocky grin, though still present, now held a glint of genuine challenge. He conceded, tossing his next Poké Ball with a flourish, "Impressive, I must admit. But let's see how you fare against my next partner. Go, Flygon!"

*Pop*

With a burst of light, Flygon, the Spirit of the Desert, materialized on the field. Its compound eyes glowed, and a faint shimmering indicated its held item: a [Life Orb], signifying its offensive power.

Drake wasted no time. He commanded, "Flygon, Defog!"

*FWP*

Flygon beat its powerful wings, kicking up a sudden, localized gale that swirled through the chamber. The gentle rainfall, a product of Milotic's earlier Rain Dance, was swiftly dissipated, clearing the air and altering the dynamics of the battle.

Azure, anticipating a clear shot, had already issued his command, "Salamence, Agile Style Hurricane!"

*Fwp*

*Swoooosh*

Salamence roared, gathering potent winds around it, but without the rain to guarantee its accuracy, the swirling vortex of air veered wildly, missing Flygon by a considerable margin. Drake seized the opportunity and ordered, "Now, Flygon, Sandstorm!"

*FWP*

*WOOOSH*

Flygon let out a resonant cry, and the air immediately grew hazy, then thick with swirling grains of sand. A fierce sandstorm erupted, engulfing the battlefield. Flygon, with its natural affinity for desert environments, immediately capitalized on this, blurring into the grainy tempest, disappearing.

Azure frowned, his strategic mind racing. The sandstorm raged, whipping around Salamence. He urged, his voice cutting through the wind, "Salamence, try to locate Flygon by sight or listen for its wings!"

Salamence, its senses on high alert, tried to locate its foe. But Flygon's wings, known for their eerie, singing sound in a sandstorm, acted as both a natural camouflage and a disorienting echo...

*Echo*

*Echo*

The sonic vibrations, coupled with the swirling sand, made pinpointing Flygon's exact location nearly impossible. A moment later, a searing beam of energy erupted from the heart of the sandstorm.

*PEW*

Drake's voice echoed, "Dragon Pulse!"

*BOOM*

The attack slammed into Salamence, who roared in pain, staggering back a step. The poison continued its insidious work, sapping its strength.

Drake's voice, now laced with a subtle taunt, drifted through the swirling sand, "That's my Flygon, boy. In its element, it's a phantom. And your Salamence is poisoned. You might have better odds switching to another Pokémon."

But Azure merely smiled, a knowing glint in his eyes. He looked at Salamence, who met his gaze, then let out a defiant, earth-shaking roar, "GRAOOO!!!"

A surge of pure, unadulterated willpower coursed through the Dragon Pokémon. To Azure's surprise and Drake's visible shock, a faint golden aura enveloped Salamence for a fleeting moment.

But to Azure, he saw a screen pop up with a knowing grin, 'Really should've shut your trap, Drake. No one can beat the power of friendship mechanics!'

[Salamence healed its Poison out of sheer determination, so you wouldn't worry!]

The sickly purple tinge of poison around its body vanished. Salamence, through sheer determination and an unwillingness to cause its trainer worry, had healed itself. Drake was stunned, seeing this murmured, "Did it heal its poison through sheer determination… or just out of spite, what I said…"

Azure declared, his smile broadening. A new idea sparked in his mind, "Heh, looks like we're staying right where we are, Drake! Salamence, another Hurricane! But this time, draw the sandstorm into the eye of the storm!"

*FWP*

*SWOOOOSH*

Salamence roared, gathering its energy. Instead of a wide, sweeping attack, it focused its power, creating a tighter, more concentrated hurricane. With incredible precision, it began to manipulate the raging sandstorm.

The swirling grains, caught in Salamence's vortex, were drawn inwards, forced to the center of the hurricane. As the sand compressed, the swirling mass became dense and opaque, yet within its very core, the air cleared, creating a temporary, stable eye…

*Fwp*

And there, trapped and visible, was Flygon. Drake clicked his tongue, impressed despite himself. He snapped, "Dragon Pulse, Flygon!"

Azure countered, "Salamence, Dragon Pulse, meet it head-on!"

*PEW*

Two potent beams of draconic energy erupted from the Pokémon, colliding in a brilliant, explosive flash that momentarily brightened the room. The force of the impact canceled both attacks, leaving a lingering scent of ozone.

*BOOOM*

Flygon, having recovered from the shock of being revealed, zipped forward. Drake commanded, "Dragon Breath!"

*Sssss*

A stream of emerald energy shot towards Salamence. Azure ordered quickly, "Dragon Dance, Salamence!"

*Swooosh*

Salamence, agile despite its size, twisted and turned, performing an elegant, powerful dance that allowed it to entirely avoid Flygon's attack. As it moved, a ripple of raw power flowed through its body, its eyes burning with renewed intensity.

*Shiii*

Its Attack and Speed stats soared, gaining an invaluable +1 stage for each. Drake frowned. His gaze sharpened, calculating, murmured, "Azure's Salamence, even considering its unscarred status, now had a cumulative +3 Attack and +1 Speed from earlier buffs and this Dragon Dance. I can't afford a misstep here…"

He couldn't afford any mistakes. He issued, "Flygon, Hyper Beam!"

*PEW*

Flygon gathered a tremendous amount of energy, its body throbbing with power, before unleashing a concentrated blast. Azure swiftly countered, "Dodge with Dragon Rush, Salamence!"

*Zoooom*

Salamence, moving with a speed that belied its bulk, pivoted instantly. It became a living missile, soaring directly towards Flygon, narrowly avoiding the scorching Hyper Beam by mere inches off its body...

*BOOOM*

Before Flygon could fully register the evasion, Salamence slammed into it with devastating force, a direct hit from Dragon Rush. Flygon cried out, staggering from the impact, "Flllly…!! (Ow! That hurt!)"

Drake was momentarily surprised by Salamence's enhanced swiftness, but his expression hardened. Flygon needed to recharge after Hyper Beam.

Azure saw his chance and ordered, "Salamence, Tailwind!"

*Fwp*

Salamence soared into the air, gaining some distance from the reeling Flygon. Its wings beat with renewed vigor, creating a powerful current behind it, granting it speed priority for its next few minutes.

As Flygon fully recharged, Drake roared, "Dragon Claw, Flygon!"

*Zoooom*

Flygon, recovering its composure, lunged with razor-sharp claws, aiming for Salamence. Azure commanded, pressing his advantage, "Dragon Dance, again, Salamence!"

*Wooosh*

Salamence executed another graceful aerial maneuver, easily dodging the Dragon Claw. Another surge of power coursed through it, stacking another +1 stage to both its Attack and Speed. Now, it stood at an intimidating +4 Attack and +2 Speed.

Before Flygon could react, Azure's Salamence retaliated with a swift action by his order, "Agile Style Dragon Breath!"

*Sssss*

A focused stream of draconic energy shot towards Flygon. But Drake, ever the veteran, had a trick up his sleeve, ordered, "Flygon, Dragon Breath, form a barrier!"

*CLANG*

To Azure's genuine surprise, Flygon responded by unleashing its own Dragon Breath, not as an attack, but as a swirling vortex of emerald energy that solidified into a protective shield, deflecting Salamence's incoming attack.

Azure murmured, intrigued, "That's an interesting move…"

Drake's Flygon followed up immediately, "Dragon Pulse!"

*PEW*

A rapid beam of energy was launched towards Salamence. But Azure called out, quick to adapt, "Salamence, Dragon Breath, replicate their barrier!"

*Ssssss*

*CLANG*

To Drake's visible shock, Azure's Salamence, with a flash of understanding, mimicked Flygon's defensive maneuver. It unleashed its own Dragon Breath, shaping it into a defiant emerald shield that absorbed Flygon's Dragon Pulse, blocking the attack entirely.

Azure's cheeky grin widened as he thanked Drake casually, "Took a page out of your book, Drake! Who says Dragons can't be defensive?"

Salamence let out a happy roar, clearly pleased with its newfound defensive capability, "Grao! (Thanks, crazy old man!)"

Drake gritted his teeth, the corners of his mouth twitching in annoyance, thought, 'This punk just copied me off! I'll sue him!'

Drake growled, frustrated by Azure's quick thinking, "Dragon Rush, Flygon!"

*Zooom*

Flygon lunged, a blur of sand and muscle. Azure commanded, his voice sharp with finality, "Strong Style Hidden Power, Salamence!"

*PEW*

As Flygon rushed in, Salamence unleashed a concentrated beam of energy, not of dragon-type, but pure energy. It sliced through the sandstorm, a dazzling, super-effective strike that caught Flygon mid-lunge.

*BOOOM*

The Super-effective-type Hidden Power slammed into the Dragon/Ground Flygon with devastating force, eliciting a pained cry. Flygon crumpled, defeated, collapsing into the swirling sand.

*Thud*

With Flygon knocked out, Salamence descended to the ground, its powerful Moxie ability activating. A surge of ferocity coursed through its already enhanced frame, boosting its Attack stat by another +1 stage.

Azure's Salamence now bristled with an incredible +5 Attack and +2 Speed. Drake took a deep breath, his cocky grin finally replaced by a look of grim determination as he thought respectfully, 'This guy is exceptional.'

He hurled his last Poké Ball, a flicker of its previous occupant's power hinting at its identity, and yelled, "Go, Salamence!"

*Pop*

With a majestic burst of light, Drake's own Salamence appeared, its scales gleaming. It, too, clutched a [Salamencite]. The air crackled with anticipation. Two titans, two Salamence, now faced each other.

Drake's Salamence roared, the challenge clear, "GRAOO!!! (Bring it, kiddo!)"

Azure's Salamence roared in response, "SALL!!! (Sure, old timer!)"

Both Dragons' eyes glared at each other. Drake ordered, "Dragon Pulse!"

*PEW*

A powerful wave of draconic energy shot towards Azure's Salamence. But Azure's Dragon, boosted by its numerous stat increases and the enduring effects of Tailwind, moved with impossible swiftness.

*Woosh*

It weaved and bobbed through the air, diving close to the ground, outmaneuvering every single Dragon Pulse with effortless grace. Azure commanded, intending to capitalize on the +5 Attack stats, "Now, Salamence, Strong Style Dragon Rush!"

*Zoooom*

Azure's Salamence, a blur of red and white, tore through the air, aiming for a devastating impact. Drake, not to be outdone, quickly countered, "Dragon Breath, form a barrier to block it!"

*Sssss*

Drake's Salamence, having witnessed the replication earlier, quickly formed its own Dragon Breath barrier. Azure's Dragon Rush slammed into it, and for a moment, it seemed to hold for a few moments...

*CRACK*

… But the sheer force of Azure's Salamence, amplified by its prodigious attack power, began to crack the shimmering shield. With a final, explosive surge, Azure's Salamence pierced through, connecting with Drake's Dragon, inflicting significant damage.

*BOOM*

However, the barrier's resistance had slowed its momentum, and the recoil of its own attack, combined with the barrier's residual energy, also dealt damage to Azure's Salamence. Both dragons staggered, having taken and dealt heavy blows.

At the same moment, both trainers cried out, "Roost!"

*Shiii*

Both Salamence descended, their wings folding back as they focused on recovery. A golden light enveloped them, mending their wounds.

As they regained their health, a strange transformation occurred: the Flying type temporarily vanished from their beings, making them pure Dragon-types for the duration of the healing as a result of Roost.

When they were done, both trainers, with a shared understanding of the battle's apex, raised their hands simultaneously and roared, "Salamence, Mega Evolve!"

*SHIII*

Twin keystones on their trainers' wrists and gloves pulsed with brilliant light. The [Salamencite] held by both Pokémon flared, sending streams of raw energy into their respective bodies. Their forms began to shift, to grow, to transform. Skeletal wings extended, curving into a crescent shape above them, their bodies becoming streamlined, powerful, aerodynamic killing machines…

With a synchronized roar, both emerged as Mega Salamence, their Flying types gloriously restored, their power radiating through the chamber, "GRAOOO!!! (Round 2!)"

The true clash of dragons was at hand.

Azure ordered, taking the initiative, "Dragon Pulse, Salamence!"

*PEW*

A concentrated beam of pure dragon energy erupted. But Drake smirked, ordering, "Dragon Dance Salamence!"

*Fwp*

Using Dragon Dance Drake's Mega Salamence, agile and powerful, soared majestically above the attack, avoiding it with practiced ease. And in the process, gained +1 Attack and Speed as Drake thought, 'So that's how he uses Dragon Dance to avoid attacks. Not bad, kid, and thanks for the tactic.'

Drake roared, seizing the opening, "Hyper Beam, my Salamence!"

*PEW*

Drake's Mega Salamence, now infused with the Aerilate ability, unleashed a devastating Hyper Beam. The attack, now powered by the Flying-type enhancement, glowed with an ethereal blue, far more potent than its original form.

Azure's eyes narrowed, but smirked, clashing his attack with his own ordered, "Counter with Hyper Beam, Salamence!"

*PEW*

Azure's Mega Salamence unleashed its own Hyper Beam, a crimson wave of power. The two colossal beams of energy collided mid-air with an earth-shattering explosion that rocked the very foundations of the chamber, sending shockwaves across the lava pool and making the dragon head statues shudder.

*BOOOOM*

As the smoke cleared, both Mega Salamence stood their ground, momentarily spent as they recharged. Drake, ever strategic, struck first, ordered, "Salamence, Dragon Rage!"

*PEW*

Drake's Mega Salamence roared, generating a powerful, localized cyclone of pure draconic energy. The swirling vortex engulfed Azure's Mega Salamence, battering it relentlessly before smashing it down to the stone floor with brutal force.

Azure urged, his voice filled with unwavering belief, "Salamence, stand up!"

With a defiant growl, Azure's Mega Salamence pushed itself up, its body bruised but its spirit unbowed. Azure grinned as he ordered, "Agile Style Dragon Pulse, quick!"

*PEW*

Another potent Dragon Pulse shot towards Drake's Salamence, but Drake was ready and ordered, "Protect!"

*CLANG*

A shimmering green barrier instantly materialized around Drake's Mega Salamence, absorbing the attack without a scratch. Drake then pressed his advantage and commanded, "Now!! Hyper Beam!"

*PEW*

A blue, Aerilate-powered Hyper Beam launched towards Azure's Pokémon. Azure countered, his strategy swift, "Strong Style Twister, Salamence, block it!"

*WOOOSH*

Azure's Mega Salamence unleashed a potent Twister attack, creating a mini-cyclone of fierce winds that crashed into the Hyper Beam. The two attacks struggled for dominance, gradually dissipating each other's power in a chaotic whirlwind of energy.

Azure, knowing Drake's Salamence needed to recharge, seized the moment, "Perfect! Strong Style Tera Blast, now!"

*PEW*

A rainbow-hued orb of raw energy formed at Azure's Salamence's maw, then shot forth. Drake's Mega Salamence, still reeling from the Twister's effects and needing to recharge from Hyper Beam, had no choice but to take the full force of the attack.

*BOOOM*

It cried out in pain, staggering, "Salll!! (OUCH!!)"

Despite the heavy blow, Drake's Salamence was still on its feet. Drake commanded, hoping for a knockout, "Flamethrower!"

*Sssss*

A torrent of blistering flames erupted, aimed at Azure's Dragon. Azure ordered, "Strong Style Twister, again, Salamence!"

*WOOOSH*

The Twister formed, intercepting the Flamethrower and twisting it away. As the flames dissipated, Azure's Salamence lunged, "Dual Wingbeat!"

*SMACK*

*SMACK*

Azure's Mega Salamence slammed into Drake's Dragon with two rapid, powerful wing strikes, inflicting heavy, bone-jarring damage. Despite the brutal impact, Drake's Salamence, fueled by its trainer's unwavering will, stubbornly remained standing, though visibly battered.

Both Trainers roared, "HYPER BEAM!!"

*KA-BOOOOM*

Another exchange of Hyper Beams followed, both Aerilate-boosted, both exploding in a blinding flash that filled the chamber. As they both recharged, the tension was palpable as they both thought, 'This was it, the final exchange.'

Azure roared, pouring every ounce of his remaining strategy into the command, "Strong Style Giga Impact, Salamence!"

*BOOOM*

Azure's Mega Salamence became a living battering ram, shrouded in raw, orange energy, hurtling towards Drake's exhausted Dragon. Drake bellowed back, matching Azure's resolve, his voice cracking with strain, "Dragon Rush, Salamence!"

*ZOOOOM*

Drake's Mega Salamence, summoning its last reserves of strength, launched itself forward, cloaked in its own shimmering draconic energy. The two colossal dragons, icons of power and majesty, collided with an earth-shattering impact…

*KA-BOOOOM*

The sound was deafening, a sickening crunch of scales and bone, followed by a concussive shockwave that slammed into the stone floor, shaking the entire chamber. Dust and debris exploded outwards, temporarily obscuring the aftermath.

As the smoke slowly died down, revealing the two behemoths, silence descended. Both Mega Salamence lay prone, unmoving…

*Shiii*

Then, with a shudder, Drake's Mega Salamence flickered, its Mega Evolution reversing as it reverted to its base form, lying still, fainted in place. Azure's Mega Salamence, though battered and bruised, let out a weak but triumphant roar, then slowly, painfully, pushed itself back onto its feet, "G… Grao!! (I… won… old bastard…)"

A wave of exhilaration washed over Azure as he thought proudly, 'I've done it... I had defeated the final member of the Hoenn Elite Four!'

He rushed to his Salamence's side, patting its scarred scales tenderly, thanking it, "Thanks gal! We did it!"

Drake, his earlier cockiness entirely gone, replaced by a profound respect, slowly recalled his fallen Salamence. He looked at Azure, a small, genuine smile gracing his lips as he said respectfully, "An incredible battle, Azure. Your Salamence showed remarkable determination and power. Congratulations, you've earned this victory."

Azure, ecstatic, quickly pulled out two Full Restores from his bag. He knelt, gently applying one to his triumphant Salamence, then turned to the Poké Ball containing Milotic, who had taken some earlier hits, and administered the other.

With his partners healed and his spirit soaring, he nodded to Drake, a shared moment of respect passing between them. The path to the Champion now lay clear.

Drake watched him go, a contemplative look on his face. He chuckled softly to himself, recalling rumors, whisperings of a legendary Sky-High Pokémon as he murmured, "So, the Dragon Lord has found its match, a trainer worthy of its gaze. Hahahaha... I must be getting old to see such a change at my age..."

He smiled, the fire in his eyes reflecting the lava below as he added curiously, "A Kanto Champion versus a Hoenn Champion. Now that, I wouldn't miss for the world."

The grand finale awaited, and Drake, despite his loss, found himself eagerly anticipating who would emerge victorious.
