Vaan stared at the compass resting on top of the table in Valentina's room.
He felt a strong urge to take it and dispose of it. However, he couldn't do that.
He looked at the tear-stained face of the young lady sleeping right beside him. Last night, Vaan might have gone a bit too rough with his desire to get the answers to his questions.
In the end, Valentina relented. But she made him promise not to take the compass or destroy it.
"I have been left with an important mission. Please let me finish it until the end."
Vaan couldn't possibly ignore the plea of the young lady who decided to put her trust in him.
There was no way he could break her trust. However, Vaan also decided to see his mission through to the very end.
Last night, both of them agreed that Valentina would use the compass on Alex in exchange for her telling Vaan the truth.
If the compass failed to perceive that Alex was indeed the prince that she was looking for, then fine.
