-The Underworld, Bael Territory's Countryside-

Ravel's glove still lay at my feet, laying still against the cobblestones of the Bael Territory's countryside.

The little ojou-sama stood across from me, her golden drill hair fluttering about that almost made me think that her hair was drilling itself.

It reminded me of a certain ojou-sama from an old anime called B*tlers vs Maids.

As I stared into her eyes filled with righteous furt, Valerie stood at my side, watching intently, and Roygun, of course, was already cheering me on with that mischievous grin of hers.

"Very well, Ravel Phenex," I said, slipping the glove into my pocket. "I accept your challenge. Shall we---"

"Hold it."

The voice that interrupted was deep, confident, and instantly familiar.

I turned to see a tall, muscular man standing around 194cm, about 6' 4'' wearing this blue nobleman's outfit with a silver-blue vest striding toward us through the crowd. His spiky black hair and confident grin standing out as the onlookers began to murmur.

---Sairaorg Bael.

My favorite character archetype, which are characters who instead of bitching, moaning, and giving up when live kicks them in the ass, get up, get to training, and give life and whoever is against them a real kick in the ass back.

Yeah, the mostly indomitable will types.

"Sairaorg," I said with a grin. "Now this is a surprise."

No it wasn't. He's the reason I'm here in the first place.

"Haha! Really? Knowing you I can't help but doubt that." Sairaorg let out a hearty laugh, the kind that made the devils nearby perk up with respect.

Next to him was this blonde beauty with fair skin and long blond hair tied in a ponytail, who I assumed to be Kuisha Abbadon.

"Sairaorg Bael..." Ravel frowned upon seeing Sairaorg, as even she knew the young man famed for his strength and charisma despite lacking the Bael clan's signature Power of Destruction.

-clap!-

As we neared each other, we extended our hands and met in a perfect clasp.

A perfect stylized handshake between men.'

The moment our palms met, the air rippled as our combined strength sending a subtle shockwave that rustled the grass.

"You've gotten stronger, Daichi." Sairaorg said with a smirk.

"So have you, Sai-chan." I replied.

No other words needed to be said, as I could see that this fella has dutifully training and expanding his peerage during the time I haven't saw him.

Asking him if he was training would just be silly at this point.

Sairaorg then turned, gesturing toward the woman beside him. "This is my Queen---Kuisha Abaddon."

Kuisha stepped forward with a polite nod. "A pleasure, Mr. Michinaga."

"Daichi. Friends call me Daichi, and friends of friends also call me Daichi." I returned the handshake. "So Daichi is fine."

"Alright, Daichi. It's nice to meet you." Kuisha nodded.

But as I shook her hands, I fully skimmed the needed DNA to replicate the Abbadon clan trait [Hole].

By now, I could get the needed DNA to this this with a simple handshake, courtesy of how much stronger I've gotten.

Yes, even though taking it from the palm should yield lesser, degraded DNA, my [Body Manipulation] took care of that issue rather easily.

---The [Hole] trait. The signature ability of the Abaddon clan, capable of creating and controlling portals that expand and retract according to the user's will and are able to absorb attacks and reflect them back as they choose.

Once these holes have absorbed something in them, the user can reopen them in a different area of space nearby to release everything they've absorbed.

Apparently these spatial gaps work similar to black holes, in which they have a gravitational pull that redirects an attack away from their target.(though it is very much not a black hole, mind you)

Speaking of which---

"Actually," I said, "That reminds me. Sairaorg, I've been working on something, an endless training program for my pals to ready them for real life battles in this new guild I made called EXCEED."

"You see, it uses data to create virtual battlegrounds and all that jazz. I'm looking for some sparring partners willing to give their data. You in?"

"An endless training program?" Sairaorg's eyes brightened. "Sounds nice. I'm in."

It was really that simple.

"Thanks." I grinned. "I was gonna do it anyway, but I figured I'd be polite and ask."

"You really can't help yourself, huh?" Roygun smiled.

"And you even brought Lady Roygun into you schemes as well...?" Sairaorg raised an eyebrow. "So what's this? Looks like a duel's about to break out?"

"Indeed!" Ravel declared, regaining her composure. "I, Ravel Phenex, have challenged this, this shameless man for dishonoring my brother!"

"Rumor has it that something crazy happened to Riser after his loss. But I think he should get over it. People lose everyday, so he should train and get stronger and get his revenge." Sairaorg frowned, folding his arms.

"But since this is a duel about family honor... I suppose Ravel challenging you isn't too out of the question."

I grinned. "Which is why we're here now."

"Enough chatter!" Ravel huffed, cheeks puffed out again. "Let's fight already!"

"Not here," Sairaorg said, holding up a hand. "If you're going to duel, at least let me offer you a proper place. There's a clearing nearby with no civilians, and plenty of space."

"You hear that, Daichi-kun~" Roygun smirked. "We've got ourselves a ringmaster."

"Fine by me," I said. "Lead the way."

As we walked, the street vendors seemed to perk up at Sairaorg's presence. Everyone we passed greeted him warmly, as shopkeepers waved, kids cheered his name, and even older devils nodded in respect.

"Wow," I muttered. "You're like the Rocky Balboa of the Bael countryside."

We reached an open plateau overlooking the deep purple rivers.

"This should do nicely." Sairaorg gestured to the space.

"Perfect. Let's finish this." Ravel nodded, flames sparking faintly around her.

"Yosh!" I stretched my arms and legs. "Alright, little Phoenix. Ready?"

"Don't underestimate me just because I'm younger!" Ravel snapped, summoning a burst of red flame around her hands.

"I wouldn't dream of it."

Roygun and Valerie stood to the side, joined by Sairaorg and Kuisha, who both watched with interest.

"Begin!" Sairaorg declared, and the battle erupted.

Ravel's flames danced like they were alive as she launched large blasts at me that exploded in spirals,

-boom!, boom!, boom!-

"Oh~ Someone's been training~" I smirked.

"But this won't be enough." I murmured, dashing through the inferno.

I quickly dashed behind Ravel, grabbing her coat by the scruff as I tossed her into the air and fired low-power magical projectiles at her.

[Wind Magic: Air Pellet Model]

-brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrtt---!-

"It won't work!" Ravel's flames devoured all of the wind bullets as her wings sprouted from her back

We traded magical attacks for a while until...

"Say, Ravel... How about... this!?" I shot at her with a stream of Daichi-styled Phenex flames, that slammed into her, searing her as the force sent her flying further into the air.

"Y-You even have flames similar to us..." Ravel said in shock.

"Yup." I smiled faintly. "You're not to bad Ravel, I'm sure I can train you to be something fierce in the future."

"But first, let me ask you something, Ravel."

"What?" She hesitated mid-flight, confused by my sudden tone.

"Can you swim?"

Her brow furrowed. "W-What kind of question, of course I can swim!"

"Good."

-swish!-

I vanished.

I teleported right behind her in midair, my arm swinging in a sharp, practiced motion, almost comically exaggerated pose taken straight out of a fighting manga as I swung at her buttocks.

"Then you'll survive this."

-SPANK!-

My open palm smacked squarely against her backside with a sharp slap.

-SPLAAAAASSSSSSSH---!-

The resulting shockwave sent her spiraling through the air, vanquishing her flames before she crashed into the river below with a satisfying splash that nearly doused everyone watching in both water and steam.

"Ara~ It ended so quickly..." Roygun muttered.

"Wow... Daichi spanked her real hard..." Valerie said.

Sairaorg rubbed his temples, shaking his head. "Still as unpredictable as ever, Daichi."

"Did he… just...?" Kuisha just stared, speechless as ever.

"Yes," Roygun said, wiping tears from her eyes. "Yes, he did."

A few seconds later, I waded into the water and fished Ravel out, dripping wet and dazed, her golden curls plastered to her face.

When she regained consciousness, her cheeks were puffed in indignation, but her pride seemed… deflated.

"I… lost," Ravel mumbled, voice trembling between anger and embarrassment.

"Yup," I said cheerfully. "And as per our wager…"

She clenched her fists, looking down. "You can have my body… but not my heart…"

"We can work on that." I sighed, not even bothering to correct that misunderstanding. "...That being said, I want you to work for me a bit."

Her head shot up. "W-Work for you?!"

"Yeah. You've got talent, noble education, and fire control that would be useful for EXCEED. I'd rather have you on the team than on my bad side."

"So how about it, cutie? I got a soft spot for noble girls like yourself."

"Y-You… you're incorrigible." Ravel blushed as she looked away.

"Guilty as charged." I smirked, though on the inside I thought; 'Damn, I'm incorrigible?'

"Well, the victor is Daichi, as we all saw." After that, Sairaorg clapped his hands together. "So, let's settle debts here and now."

"Will do." I chuckled. "Thanks for the arena, Sairaorg. And about what we were talking about earlier? You free for a spar sometime? I'd love to pit some of my guild members against your peerage."

"I'd be honored. Let's schedule it soon." Sairaorg grinned.

"Deal."

"Now that that's done, how about we get something to eat?" Roygun stretched, looking satisfied.

"Hmnnn..." Sairaorg nodded. "There's a good place nearby. I'll take you there."

"Let's go." I said to Ravel who sat on the ground looking down.

"Even me?" Ravel asked softly, still wringing out her skirt.

"Of course," I said. "We fought, which means we understand each other now. And food's food."

"Fine… but only because I lost." She hesitated before sighing.

"Whatever you say." I offered my hand, giving one of those overpowered 'yasashi/kindness' MC smiles that nearly made her melt. "Then come on."

"O-Okay..." Her face turned bright pink as she muttered, but still placed her hand in mine.

With a grin, I pulled her gently closer and cast a drying spell.

-frrrrrrrrr!-

Warm air swirled around her, drying her clothes instantly.

She blinked, startled by the gesture, then looked away, muttering something I didn't quite catch as even her ears where now red.

"You see that? He does that a lot." Roygun whispered to Valerie,

"Daichi's a real bad boy." Valerie just smiled faintly.

I heard that. And Roygun, stop lying on my name.

We ended the evening at a local Underworld tavern, stone walls, warm lighting, and food that smelled like classic European food with lots of spices.

Sairaorg and I traded stories between bites, with Kuisha occasionally jumping in, Roygun teasing everyone, Valerie quietly enjoying herself, and Ravel sitting quietly beside me as she ate.

As the meal wound down, my mind drifted back to home, to the Michinaga Mansion, to Sadako, Sebas, and the others.

I remembered Ophis lounging around, saying something about a 'gift' that she's got for me.

"Hm," I murmured. "Better bring her something nice."

Roygun raised an eyebrow. "Souvenirs for Ophis?"

"Yep," I said with a smirk, "She really likes sweets, y'know?"

Let it not be said that I forget souvenirs. Never!

[Can I have a souvenir too?] Asterion asked.

Sure, why not?

Sairaorg is known as one of the "Rookies Four" along with Rias, Sona, and Seekvaira.

The other name for them is "The Four Novice Kings". (More like Rookies Two, and the other two fodder.)

Sairaorg likes coffee.
