The further they drove away from the outskirts of the Ashen Wastes, the scenery around them began to change from a wild barren plain into a grand gothic civilization unimaginable to the common sense of mortal creatures.
In the distance, giant obsidian towers pierced the purplish-red sky like upside-down swords. The River Styx flowed, dividing the city; its water did not reflect light, but instead emitted a pale green fire glow from millions of souls swimming within it. The buildings in that city were constructed from a blend of black volcanic rock and pale white marble resembling bone, creating an aesthetic of graceful darkness. This was Erebos, the capital center of the Underworld, the throne of eternal power belonging to the Goddess of Death.
