Chapter 178 - Chapter 177: Arrangements

Will this accident happen again tomorrow?

Staring at the simulator's "next day" log, Lin Mo's brow knit instantly. For a moment he couldn't figure out why something like that would occur.

Instinctively, he probed deeper—could this crash be retaliation from enemies provoked by Kitagawa Hiro's recent actions?

It was a reasonable guess. As an edgerunner, vendetta hits weren't rare… but why deploy such overkill against an innocent girl?

Most crucially, as he read the simulated text, a strange déjà vu welled up inside him.

"When did I see something like this?" Lin Mo pulled the headband off and sank into thought.

Yes, the simulator preserves past run logs, but aside from major events he hadn't memorized all the day-to-day trivia.

One sim per day, sixteen years since he crossed over—those accumulated texts could fill a million-word novel. He simply didn't have the time to memorize every line.

He did keep a diary, though, to analyze the simulator's patterns. Usually, that made memorization unnecessary.

"…Better give Kitagawa Hiro a heads-up first."

Lin Mo sighed, shelved the speculation, and dialed.

The call connected almost instantly—so fast it made him feel a bit sheepish. No matter when Lin Mo called, Hiro always picked up on the first ring. It gave off the vibe of "a simp waiting on his goddess's reply."

"Hello, Lin-kun. Calling this late—do you have something for me?" Hiro's tone was solemn, like a samurai awaiting orders to march.

"Your sister—Kitagawa Shizu—does her school have some event tomorrow? And she has to take the bus for an outing?" Lin Mo asked straight out.

Hiro blinked, puzzled. "They do. She mentioned it when she got home tonight… But Lin-kun, how did you know? Is her school trip entangled with our job?"

As a professional siscon, he kept close tabs on anything involving his sister's school. Even so, he only heard about it this evening. How had Lin Mo learned?

"No, the school outing has nothing to do with our mission. I'm calling to make sure your sister stays home tomorrow. She absolutely must not go on that trip," Lin Mo instructed.

Hiro was dazed. He usually trusted Lin Mo's orders implicitly, but when it came to his sister, this one left him at a loss.

"Lin-kun, may I ask—does her school have a problem?" he pressed.

Lin Mo sighed. He didn't want to over-explain; he had unanswered questions himself. He kept it short: "Not exactly. I get why you're confused—give it two days. You might have your answer then. For now, make sure Shizu doesn't go to school tomorrow."

"…To be safe, I'll also swing by your place tomorrow."

Hiro's brows rose, his misgivings deepening. Something this simple required Lin-kun personally?

"Very well. I'll do as you say," he agreed at last.

"Oh—ask your sister where the school buses are parked. If you can, go tonight and blow them up," Lin Mo added after a moment.

If a crash tomorrow would kill almost everyone on that bus… Lin Mo decided to step in. Thirty-plus lives—if they could be saved, they should be.

How? Simple. He couldn't be bothered to do it himself; better to have Hiro demolish the buses. No buses, no trip; cancel the outing, avert the tragedy.

Genius, if he said so himself.

"...Understood, Lin-kun. I won't let you down."

Still riddled with doubts, Hiro accepted. They discussed a few more specifics, then Lin Mo hung up.

Westbrook. The Megabuilding. Tenth floor, a certain apartment.

Kitagawa Hiro lay back on the sofa, eyes narrowed, expression grave. Even after the call ended he held the pose, lost in thought.

At length he glanced at Shizu, who sat beside him, bored, watching TV. "Shizu, what time is your school trip tomorrow?"

"Four in the afternoon. Why?" She turned, big eyes full of curiosity.

"Nothing. I'll call you in sick. Stay home tomorrow—ideally don't go out at all," Hiro said.

Shizu blinked, curiosity turning to confusion. Her brows knit. "Why?"

"It's Lin-kun's instruction. Do as he says—he has his reasons," Hiro deflected.

"Lin-ge told me…?" Her eyes lit up at the name Lin-kun, confusion dissolving into sparkle.

"Mhm. He also said he'd come by tomorrow. Don't embarrass yourself. And I need to head out on an errand—stay home. Don't wander," Hiro reminded.

"Lin-ge is coming here tomorrow?!" Shizu's eyes went wide; surprise, delight, and fluster mixed across her face. Whatever Hiro said after that didn't register—her brain was already redlining the moment she heard Lin Mo was visiting.

Hiro sighed, patted her back to snap her out of it. "Turn in early. Do whatever you want tomorrow, I won't meddle—but don't go out."

Shizu nodded blankly, as if caught in some internal spiral. She stood up in a daze and drifted off to bed on her own.
