Lin Mo kept reading the outcome of the simulation:
[You overruled the dissenters. With the weight of your accumulated reputation, no one dared object further. Maine's crew had grumbled before, but when it mattered, most of them still placed absolute trust in you.]
[Even Regina held her tongue. When you revealed your other identity as the edgerunner known as "Shadow," she admitted she'd heard whispers of your deeds. Believing you weren't the type to gamble recklessly with your life, she consented to tonight's op.]
[According to plan, you identified a weak point in the defenses. Using a truck as a stepping platform, you and Sasha vaulted the wall.]
[But the mission ended before it even began.]
[The moment you and Sasha slipped over, you moved as stealthily as you thought possible. But what you believed to be a flawless infiltration was a failure from the start.]
[Minutes later, comms lit up with grim intel from Maine's crew—the hacker team had failed. There were corporate netrunners already embedded inside the perimeter, reinforcing security protocols. Qiwei couldn't punch through in time.]
[Meanwhile, patrols—guards, drones, and other security assets—were already converging on your position.]
[You realized then that you'd probably been exposed the instant you crossed the wall.]
[There was no time to wonder why. The enemy was already at your throat.]
[The situation was dire, but you had expected as much. Calm in the face of failure, you reminded yourself: you were here to "test." Failure was only the seedbed of success to come.]
[So you made the call: you would stay behind, draw their fire, and buy Sasha time to escape.]
[Sasha refused. You ordered her, invoking her own words—that she'd never do something stupid again.]
[Right now, staying was suicide. Escaping first was the only rational choice.]
[But she wouldn't budge. She said many things. The one that struck you deepest: "I'm willing to be stupid one more time."]
Lin Mo frowned slightly. He couldn't understand Sasha's thinking. She'd been in the game for years. She knew better than anyone that, with Sandevistan, even if he was surrounded, he still had a shot at slipping free.
But she, a netrunner with no combat edge, had no such chance. Running was the smart move.
Looks like I'll have to rethink my hacker support lineup, Lin Mo thought grimly.
The simulation continued:
[You wouldn't let her stay. You injected her with a dose of anesthetic before she could react. She slumped into unconsciousness.]
[Then you slotted a Trauma Team chip into her neural port. Within three minutes, they'd read her vitals and dispatch rescue.]
[As for you—you still had a mission to finish. Retreat was never an option. You embraced death.]
[You fought.]
[Shouting as you struck, your cries rattled the enemy. They couldn't fathom your purpose.]
[You screamed: "Direct opposition—total enemy forces: 83 security personnel. Four Arasaka enforcers. Eight snipers. Sixty-two armed guards. Nine Arasaka agents. Twelve Wyvern drones. Two combat mechs!"]
[Against such firepower, you couldn't stand. In open ground, encircled, even with Sandevistan you were not faster than bullets. Skills let you dodge snipers, but the swarm of enhanced guards landed hits all the same.]
[Your strength sowed fear. They escalated—deploying heavy ordnance. Auto-turrets couldn't lock you, but switched to explosive saturation fire. Blast waves tore through your evasions.]
[In the end, as death closed in, you whispered: "Solo rear guard… max eight minutes. Forty-eight enemies down. One mech destroyed. Six drones down. That's my current ceiling."]
["To whoever comes after—let this be your warning."]
[Simulation Rating: The Mantis That Goes to Its Death]
[Simulation Reward: Fragment of Legendary Armor Fabric]
As expected, the simulation ended in tragedy. Lin Mo read the text with a flat, steady gaze.
Neither the outcome nor the reward surprised him. This run had been for testing, nothing more. Rewards were irrelevant.
"I didn't think the 'me' in the sim would be so decisive… to leave intel like that with his dying breath," he murmured.
But then again, wasn't that the point? The simulator was for reconnaissance. Passing on tactical intel before dying—that was perfectly in character.
As for the fight? Of course "he" hadn't wiped them all out. If he were strong enough to solo entire corporate strike teams, there'd be no need for stealth ops. He'd just walk in guns blazing.
In truth, only his Reflexes were high; his other stats lagged far behind. In game terms, he was mid-level—dangerous, yes, but far from unstoppable.
His eyes flicked back to one line:
[Snipers couldn't lock on to you.]
He grinned.
"So that perk really works, huh? Not just against smartguns—snipers can't lock either."
Moving like a ghost, as untouchable as a wraith.
If you asked Lin Mo what defined power most in Cyberpunk, he wouldn't say attributes, chrome, or rare gear. It was perks.
Fully unlocked perks meant you could dominate with any build. No cyberware, no legendary weapons—even on the highest difficulty, you'd still carve through Night City.
"Shame perk points are even harder to get than attribute points," Lin Mo sighed.
His Reflexes had climbed from 4 to 15 since the start. Yet in all that time, he'd only unlocked three perks.
