Night City, Santo Domingo—Preacher's Shore.
They called it "Shore" because it lay along the water.
Night City, perched on the North American coast, was a booming port city, cut through by a wide inland river that nearly split the city in half.
In Santo Domingo's Arroyo District, Preacher's Shore sat on one bank. Across the water lay Heywood's Glen and Vista del Rey.
Lin Mo drove his Caliburn along the elevated roads, eyes flicking between the nav-map on the dash and the streets ahead.
Finally, before the highway curved into an overpass loop, he swung off onto a side road and followed it down—straight to the place David had mentioned.
It was a pedestrian zone along the river.
On one side, the murky gray-brown current churned lazily past; on the other, a row of diners and small shops.
Lin Mo pulled over into a spot and stepped out with David. No need to keep driving for the last stretch.
As the boardwalk opened before him, flashes of déjà vu lit in his mind. He'd walked this place before—in the game.
Reality had its differences, but the layout was unmistakable.
A broad, straight promenade, Six Street gang tags sprayed across the pavement. By the river, stairs led down to a lower terrace for a closer view of the tide.
Most of the shops were eateries. Food vendors crowded the path too, stalls smoking and sizzling, their shouts filling the air.
Lin Mo looked closer.
As expected—half the stalls were serving skewers that smelled as awful as they looked.
Even in daylight, plenty of people wandered here.
The water might be polluted to sludge, but once you got used to it, even that could pass for scenery.
Busy area after all... Lin Mo thought.
"Is it always this crowded?" he asked David.
David shook his head, hands stuffed in his pockets. "Nah. Just during the day. At night, the place clears out."
"Really?" Lin Mo raised a brow.
"Security ain't great. Six Street runs it, but once it's dark? People stay inside."
Figures... Lin Mo nodded.
Following David deeper, he kept scanning his surroundings.
The buildings here hugged the underside of the overpass. Narrow alleys cut between them, looking like dead ends—until you noticed the three-meter walls leading up to the highway above.
If someone was being chased, it would be easy to vault up and jack a passing car.
The thought made Lin Mo smirk.
Feels just like GTA.
And the riverside gave it extra appeal. An easy escape route by water.
Soon, David led him into one of the alleys. At the end stood a plain electronic door.
If you didn't know, you'd never guess a ripperdoc operated behind it.
David barged right in. "Doc, I'm here!"
The man inside nearly jumped out of his skin.
"Goddamn brat, you ever hear of knocking?!" the ripperdoc snarled, slamming down his drink.
He was wiry, shirtless, his torso crisscrossed with obvious cyberware scars. Muscles filled him out, but the air about him was skeevy. Over his eyes glowed a five-lens scanner rig, blue light flickering.
Lin Mo stepped in and was immediately hit with the stench of stale air and chemicals.
Unfazed, he strode forward, clasped the man's hand warmly, and said:
"So you're the ripperdoc David's always talking about. Name's Lin Mo—been wanting to meet you. Pleasure."
Now he understood why this place had felt familiar.
In the game, this was one of the ripperdoc locations.
And this one in particular had left a mark in his memory—for selling blueprints to the Sandevistan heatsink mod.
Combine that with the best cooldown reducers and speedware, and you had the foundation of true blades supremacy. Infinite time-slow combos—god-tier stuff.
But back to business.
Without letting the doc get a word in, Lin Mo pressed eagerly:
"Doc, any chance you've got Sandevistan heatsinks for sale? Or the blueprints?"
The man blinked, caught off guard. "That… no."
"What about the newest Militech-grade Kerenzikov?"
"Nope."
"…Zetatech Berserk implant, at least?"
"Don't have it."
"…Then what's your top-selling implant?" Lin Mo pressed, voice flat.
The ripper's scanner lenses flicked over Lin Mo's clothes, spitting out fabric data.
Rich kid.
His demeanor flipped. He spun a monitor around, pulling up a flashy promo.
"This here's my pride and joy—military-grade enhanced cyberlungs. Install these and you'll be running like the wind!"
Lin Mo slowly pulled his hand back, his face turning neutral.
Seriously?
You've got nothing. And you dare call this a shop?
He shot David a side glance. The look said it all: This is your guy?
Of course. A fence. The kind who resold black-market BDs to David, making him the middleman. No way he was a top-tier ripperdoc.
Compared to Vik Vektor? Trash.
David seemed to realize too, and hurried to smooth things over.
"Doc, actually, today we came to talk about something else. Something important."
"What important thing?"
"A big deal!" Lin Mo cut in before David could answer, ignoring his startled stare.
