Chapter 49 - Chapter 48: Stone in the Sword

Lin Mo ascended to the second floor of the villa, gathered his personal belongings and equipment from his room, and then proceeded toward his old private base.

Before being converted into his private base, it had been an abandoned small warehouse.

The large estate was usually only inhabited by him and his sister, Xu Wanshui, so there were still many vacant rooms around the house, including several small warehouses like this one.

Although it was called a warehouse, it was actually just an abandoned garage. When they first moved into the estate, such parking spaces were scattered all over the place.

There were garages for private sports cars, a courtyard helipad for flying vehicles to land, and garages for visiting guests to park their cars, among other facilities designed to enhance the estate's grandeur. The property developers had certainly planned for all these features.

However, the designers probably never imagined that such an extravagant estate would have no servants, and even the security was handled by automated robots.

Due to these factors, the estate's land use efficiency was very low, and when Lin Mo converted one of the garages into his private base, it didn't attract Xu Wanshui's attention. It wasn't until one day when she noticed Lin Mo spending a lot of time in the base and eventually discovered that this fool had secretly been working on building his muscles. That's when she locked the garage.

Lin Mo arrived in front of the warehouse, the memories of the past flooding back. He smiled slightly, took out the access token Xu Wanshui had given him, and opened the garage door.

A sky-blue Rayfield — Stone in the Sword sports car shot out of the garage, the roar of the engine echoing throughout the estate.

In the surveillance footage, a blue streak raced down the estate's road, no matter how winding the road seemed; in front of this blade, it appeared as nothing. The car only moved straight ahead, leaving blackened skid marks on the lawn, like lightning rushing toward the estate's gate!

The Rayfield — Stone in the Sword, one of the top-tier and best-performing cars on the market.

The model was low and sleek, resembling a fast sword, filled with an aerodynamic beauty, and the air resistance was reduced to a minimum. When the accelerator was pressed, the car could take off like a jet on flat ground!

At such a speed, even the calmest person couldn't help but feel a surge of adrenaline. The surrounding scenery blurred like flowing water outside the window. Sitting in the car, the madman inside seemed to be racing against time.

No, wait.

A car produced by a top-tier automaker like Rayfield would never have low-end features like windows, right?

The entire body of the Stone in the Sword was covered with synthetic metals and crystal materials, ensuring full protection of the driver's privacy and safety.

Inside the car, the "crystal ball" technology allowed the external environment to be projected onto four sides of the car, so the driver never had to worry about missing anything outside.

At the moment of takeoff, the car's speedometer on the dashboard swung from zero to the other side in just a few seconds. The closer it got to the far-right side of the semicircle, the slower the needle moved, and the car's roar gradually turned from a bird's chirp to a dragon's roar.

Despite the terrifying speed, Lin Mo still gripped the steering wheel with one hand, his sharp eyes locked straight ahead.

In this state of reaching maximum speed, any slight movement of the steering wheel would throw the car off balance. Whether using both hands or just one, there was no difference.

No matter how fast the "Stone in the Sword" went, his eyes, like a sharp blade, would always be a step ahead of the car's speed!

It felt like something was missing at this speed. Lin Mo, using his free hand, turned on the car's radio. The cheerful, rousing rock music instantly drowned out the sound of the engine.

As the speed increased, so did the adrenaline rushing through Lin Mo's body. He could feel his heart pounding faster, and the long-forgotten rush of excitement made the hairs on his skin stand up.

However, Lin Mo didn't let himself get lost in the rush. After a good while of driving the Stone in the Sword, when he reached the outskirts of North Oak District, he began to gradually slow the car down.

He saw other vehicles starting to appear on the road.

"Drive recklessly, and tears will follow," Lin Mo still understood that principle.

The road was clear when it had just been him and the car, so he could afford to loosen up a bit. But now that there were other cars, it wasn't appropriate to keep driving recklessly.

Reaching for the car's display screen, Lin Mo activated the car's autonomous driving system and completely let go of the steering wheel, allowing his tense body to relax slightly.

The speedometer gradually swung to the left, and the roar of the engine grew quieter as the Stone in the Sword smoothly entered the city of Night City.

Taking this opportunity, Lin Mo opened his contacts list and called North Kawahiro.

"Long time no see, Lin-kun. Is there an operation today?" North Kawahiro asked briskly, his voice like a sharp knife cutting straight to the point.

"How did you know? Can't it be that I just wanted to invite you for a drink at Lizi?" Lin Mo raised an eyebrow, surprised that his thoughts had been guessed before he even said them.

North Kawahiro smiled, his expression resolute.

"You told me, our operations are likely once a week. It's been a week since the last mission, so I figured I'd be waiting for your call. I believe Lin-kun is a man of his word."

No, I had to go to class, so I could only accept missions once a week... Lin Mo silently complained in his mind.

Sometimes, he felt like he was the protagonist of the high school anime he once watched on Blue Star.

When he had nothing to do, he would go to school, and when there was a need, he would skip class to save the world...

It was pretty ridiculous.

"Do you have time? Is everything alright with your sister?" Lin Mo asked.

On the holographic screen, North Kawahiro looked a bit concerned. "I believe she will come out of the shadows. Of course, if you want to visit her, there's no problem. She would love to meet you, her benefactor."

"Alright, I'll go to your place first, then we can go to get the mission from Wakako."

Lin Mo leaned back in the seat, his eyes fixed on the rapidly passing scenery on the road.

"Good, then I won't keep you any longer, Lin-kun," North Kawahiro nodded sincerely.

The call ended with North Kawahiro's projection vanishing from Lin Mo's retina.

After some distance from North Kawahiro's skyscraper, Lin Mo thought for a moment and then dialed David's number.

"Hello, Lin Mo, why are you calling?" David's voice came through with his usual impatient tone.

Such a brat... Lin Mo chuckled.

He didn't reply, just sent a picture over.

"Eh? The Stone in the Sword, what's the deal with sending me this picture?" David sounded surprised.

Lin Mo smiled smugly. "Nothing much. Just wanted to show off a bit. This car is a gift from my sister."

"Ugh, what's that got to do with me?" David snorted.

"Don't you want to ride in it? I can lend it to you," Lin Mo said, his words dripping with temptation.

"Not interested," David dragged out.

"Are you really not interested? This top-tier sports car is perfect as a first car for young people. You should think carefully."

"Not interested... besides, you didn't call just for this, did you?" David protested.

"You guessed right! But unfortunately, I didn't prepare any rewards for you. Long story short, David, I've set up a studio. Would you be interested in helping out during the holidays?" Lin Mo said with a smile.

"A studio? What kind of work is it? Are you sure you want to hire me, a student who hasn't graduated?" David asked, immediately intrigued.

His mother worked herself to exhaustion every day, and almost all of her earnings went toward paying for his tuition. David knew how much effort his mother, Gloria, had put into ensuring his success at Arasaka Academy.

If it weren't for his mother's firm demands, David would have preferred to drop out early to find a job and help with household expenses, rather than staying in school with classmates who had everything handed to them.

Of course, Lin Mo was an exception. This good friend wasn't a fool, and David truly valued this rare friend.

As for Lin Mo's offer, he didn't doubt it. After all, it wasn't uncommon for wealthy young heirs to start businesses early.

"Well, think of it as some trash collection work. As long as you're willing, you can start anytime. As for the pay, you know my character. I won't treat you unfairly," Lin Mo said.

"A trash collection studio? You're really going to work in this field?" David said, incredulous.

"Just say yes or no, and by the way, I'll let you know that this 'trash collection' isn't as simple as you think," Lin Mo teased.

He didn't want to reveal too much, after all, he couldn't exactly tell David that the 'trash collection' involved retrieving the broken equipment from enemies…

He had already begun venturing into the world of the marginalized and was currently in need of manpower.

According to the simulator's records, David's rise would be part of the plot that would unfold next year.

Lin Mo couldn't wait that long. He preferred to have David enter the world of the marginalized sooner.

After all, David had the potential to become a legend, and Lin Mo had no reason to let this opportunity slip by.

"Well... I'll think about it. If it doesn't interfere with my school time, my mom probably won't refuse," David replied after thinking for a while.

"Alright, I'll wait for your answer." Lin Mo smiled.

After chatting for a while, the call ended.

Another message appeared on the communicator.

Lin Mo opened the communication record. It was a mission update from Wakako, along with a notification that the Sandevistan Type 3 had been obtained.

Everything matched perfectly with the simulator's records, and Lin Mo was already prepared for this. He didn't feel much surprise.

He replied to Wakako's message:
