It appeared to have been cut by something incredibly sharp. The wound was perfectly clean. The demon's entire arm was inexplicably gone.
Stunned, Tanjiro immediately thought of Ryuji—only he could attack an enemy from a distance.
Tanjiro couldn't think of anyone else who could have saved him in that situation.
Then, another figure appeared—Ryuji, identifiable by his back and hair color. Tanjiro's anxiety eased considerably.
Ryuji grabbed the demon by the neck, flung him away with a powerful throw.
"Inosuke, you and the second squad deal with this Lower Rank Two! Zenitsu, quickly take Tanjiro to safety!"
Ryuji issued a series of commands.
The demon who attacked Tanjiro had been sent by Muzan Kibutsuji to kill him. If Lower Rank One had succeeded, Lower Rank Two and Upper Rank Three wouldn't have been needed. But not only had Lower Rank One failed, he'd been killed by the Demon Slayers.
Therefore, Upper Rank Three and Lower Rank Two had to clean up the mess.
Lower Rank One's death was incredibly pathetic. Merging with the train had cost him any chance of escape, and his Blood Demon Art proved ineffective, turning him into a giant target.
After being sent flying by Upper Rank Three, Kyōjurō Rengoku rolled across the ground, using the momentum to push himself up, using one hand to brace himself.
Unable to stop his momentum, he assumed a low, stable stance to absorb the impact from Upper Rank Three's blow.
He slid several meters before stopping. A trickle of blood escaped his mouth, indicating Upper Rank Three's attack had caused injury.
Despite the blow, seeing Ryuji rescue Tanjiro brought a smile to Rengoku's previously anxious face.
Lower Rank Two, having fallen to the ground, rolled and stood up. Inosuke, drawing his two Nichirin Blades, excitedly charged towards the hulking demon.
Lower Rank Two glared at Ryuji with intense killing intent, then turned to Inosuke, roaring, "You're asking to die!"
His arm, severed by Ryuji, instantly regenerated.
As Inosuke leaped to attack, Lower Rank Two unleashed a swift punch, striking Inosuke's descending Nichirin Blade, sending him flying.
