The atmosphere became much quieter, and many passengers gradually fell asleep.
As time passed, Ryuji noticed several members of his group, including even Kyōjurō Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, had fallen asleep.

The demon was a male, dressed in an elegant suit, looking like a nobleman's son, but with the words "Lower Rank" on one eye and "One" on the other.

"Actually, I love it when people enjoy sweet dreams before a nightmare descends. The expressions of fear and contortion on their faces are my favorite; I adore them beyond measure!" Lower Rank One continued.
Listening to Lower Rank One's effeminate tone, Ryuji suspected he might have been a flamboyant person in his past life. He spoke like a woman!
Ryuji didn't bother with pleasantries. He lunged forward, delivering a swift strike that severed Lower Rank One's neck.
Ryuji hurried back to Tanjiro's carriage. Upon returning, Lower Rank One eerily emerged from the carriage floor.
It was as if his body had grown from the floor itself. Seeing Lower Rank One reappear, Ryuji was puzzled.
He had clearly severed the demon's neck, yet it was unharmed. Was he in a dream? Was that why he couldn't kill Lower Rank One?
If it were a dream, he should be able to create people or objects through imagination. Ryuji focused his mind, but nothing appeared.
Ryuji concluded he wasn't dreaming. After all, he had activated his Demon Slayer Mark, which negated all negative effects imposed upon him.
