Due to Seiichiro Sakata and Kenta Inoue's denials, and Ryuji's words, Zenitsu began to doubt whether he'd actually seen what he thought he saw.
"Alright! Everyone will stay in a separate carriage and remain vigilant. Night is when demons are active; we can't be careless," Ryuji said, dispensing with further discussion and assigning positions.
With ten carriages on the train, Ryuji designated the last and ninth carriages (the least crowded) as one unit, to be guarded by Kachi Murata.
Inosuke would guard the eighth carriage, Kenta Inoue the seventh, Zenitsu the sixth, Ryuji the fifth, Seiichiro Sakata the fourth, Tanjiro the third, Shinichi Murata the second, and Kujou Hattori the first.
Ryuji positioned himself in the middle carriage to provide support to both ends.
The weaker team members, those who hadn't mastered Total Concentration, Constant, were placed between him and Tanjiro, ensuring they could receive immediate support if needed.
However, while assigning positions, Ryuji and his group encountered Kyōjurō Rengoku in the fifth carriage.
This surprised Ryuji; he'd expected to meet Rengoku only upon reaching Mugen Train. Apparently, Rengoku was also investigating the disappearances on the train.
After seeing Rengoku, Tanjiro asked Ryuji, "Ryuji-senpai, I have something I want to ask Rengoku-san. Could I share a carriage with him?"
Ryuji didn't ask any questions and simply switched carriages with Tanjiro.
With Rengoku present, Ryuji had nothing to worry about. Rengoku's choice of the fifth carriage likely stemmed from its strategic location; being in the middle allowed for effective response to events at either end of the train.
After Ryuji and the others left, Tanjiro approached Rengoku, "Rengoku-san, may I sit next to you?"
Rengoku replied politely, without any airs of superiority, "Please, you are a passenger as well."
Seeing that Rengoku was approachable, Tanjiro sat down in the empty seat beside him and continued, "Rengoku-san, I have something I'd like to ask you. Would you be willing to answer it?"
The question concerned the Hinokami Kagura breathing technique, which Tanjiro had previously asked Ryuji about.
However, Ryuji, unfamiliar with information beyond his own knowledge, hadn't given a definitive answer, only offering his own deductions.
Ryuji suspected that Hinokami Kagura might be a simplified version of an existing breathing style or a prototype of an entirely new style, independent of the five basic breathing techniques.
After all, Ryuji didn't know much about the history of breathing techniques.
He was only truly familiar with Water Breathing and Wood Breathing, with Wood Breathing being independent of the five basic styles.
Therefore, Tanjiro's Hinokami Kagura might be similar to Wood Breathing.
