Chapter 292 - Chapter 292: The Killing Curse Principle and Soul Erasure

Ugh! What did Regulus Black just say? Bring Cedric back to life—even though he's already dead?

Everyone who had originally just wanted to vent their frustration on Regulus Black was now completely stunned.

Sure, the Black family has deep-rooted magical traditions, but this—this is just outrageous!Revive someone killed by Avada Kedavra? That's impossible! We must have misheard. Yes, that has to be it—just a hallucination.

It was one of the skills from the "Golden Finger" of Regulus Black, the "Soul of White Bone."

Originally a purely offensive magic, it had long since been transformed into something much more by Regulus.

Back when they were filming Paranormal Sixth Sense: Golden-Eyed Lolita in the United States, Lucy Piddle had added this skill to her creation, the "Bone Dagger," even injecting it with a sliver of her own consciousness.

That eventually gave rise to the Church's influence across the Five Great Lakes… and the emergence of the Seven Holy Relic Knights.

Merging a blank soul into a corpse? That's not even difficult, okay?

"The principle behind the Killing Curse is soul erasure—it completely destroys the soul. But the curse doesn't damage the body. The corpses left behind are perfectly intact. I can create a blank soul for this body. As long as the soul merges with the body, what you get is a reborn Cedric. But he won't have any memories. Everything will have to be learned from scratch."

Regulus Black's words were like a devil's temptation to Amos Diggory—a choice that could drag one's soul into the abyss.

The concept of resurrection, even in the magical world where miracles were commonplace, was still seen as a taboo. That's why people panicked at the mere mention of Voldemort's return. It symbolized an evil force—one that would only make Voldemort stronger if he truly possessed it.

But Cedric was dead. He had been Amos's only son. Birth rates in the wizarding world were incredibly low—not because wizards didn't want children, but because of their unique physiology. The presence of magic strengthened them, and as a rule of nature, powerful beings didn't need to reproduce excessively.

Now, Regulus Black had laid out his reasoning and left the choice to Amos Diggory.

"Calm down, Amos. The dead cannot return to life."

Dumbledore's face was grim. He hadn't expected so many unforeseen events tonight.

First, Voldemort had successfully revived himself using a magical ritual and potion. If Regulus hadn't pushed Harry Potter into that potion, the person to emerge from it would have been the real Voldemort himself—ushering in another age of darkness for the wizarding world.

And now, Regulus Black's shocking declaration had completely overturned common magical understanding. Someone killed by Avada Kedavra—a soul completely erased—could be brought back to life by implanting a blank soul. But would that person still be the same?

"How can you ask me to stay calm? How!?" Amos cried. "Dumbledore, help me decide. Would you choose to bring Cedric back?"

His emotions spiraled out of control as he grabbed Dumbledore by the collar. Anyone trying to stop him from reviving his son was now an enemy—and Dumbledore was the last obstacle.

To bring Cedric back, Amos Diggory had lost his mind.

Dumbledore simply stared at him. If he had the chance to resurrect someone he loved, wouldn't he go mad too?

His younger sister had died in a chaotic battle long ago—perhaps even at Dumbledore's own hand.

If he had the chance to bring her back… Dumbledore wasn't sure what he would do.

He truly understood Amos's pain. His gaze softened into one of compassion, which helped Amos calm down, if only slightly.

"Regulus Black," Amos said quietly, "would the resurrected Cedric still be Cedric?"

His expression was like that of a man on the verge of death, waiting for Regulus's final verdict.

At this moment, Regulus Black was both god and devil to him.

If he were a god, he would mercifully reveal the truth—that resurrection was only a comfort, that death could not truly be undone, and that what he'd get was merely a new life.

If he were a devil, he would deceive him with the same truth twisted into a lie—that death might be reversible, but the being brought back could very well be a demon that had hijacked his son's form.

"There's a ship," Regulus began, "sailing on the sea. Over time, it suffers wear and tear, so its damaged parts are replaced. This goes on and on—replacing what breaks, repairing what's worn. Eventually, every piece of wood on the ship has been changed. So here's the question:Is that still the same ship that first set sail?"

Regulus Black would never make choices for others. Only the person involved had the right to decide.

Was the ship, with all its wood replaced, still the original ship?

Amos Diggory was asking himself. And now, so was everyone else.

If the answer was yes, then Regulus Black would revive Cedric.

If the answer was no, then Regulus Black had already given the choice. It was Amos who gave up the chance to bring Cedric back.

This was clear to everyone. All eyes were on Amos Diggory, waiting for his decision.

"Please, no matter what, help me bring Cedric back. I believe his body is still intact, so it shouldn't result in the entire ship being replaced, right?"

By the end, Amos Diggory's voice was almost pleading.

As a high-ranking official at the Ministry of Magic, his actions had already made it impossible for him to remain in office. Resignation was now the inevitable outcome.

"Since you've already made your decision, then let's do it right here. The location doesn't matter—everyone can bear witness."

As Regulus Black finished speaking, a ball of soul light condensed in his hand. It was a pure and radiant glow—so pure that it could merge with any form of life.

If this soul light were placed into a tree, it wouldn't take long for that tree to gain consciousness.

If placed into a living human body, it would greatly enhance that person's soul.

And if it were placed into a corpse, it would bring that body back to life—whether it had just died or was reduced to mere bones.

This was the pinnacle of necromancy: controlling the dead in pursuit of life.

"Afterwards, you can take Cedric to St. Mungo's for long-term observation."

With that, Regulus Black pressed the ball of light to Cedric's chest. The soul light began to merge into the corpse. Like parched soil suddenly drenched in water, the lifeless body absorbed it eagerly.

Thump-thump... thump-thump... thump-thump...!

Faint heartbeats came first. Blood began to circulate, and the stiff body gradually came back to life. Then the chest began to rise and fall—the body had resumed breathing on its own.

Regulus Black kept his hand in place, slowly moving it toward Cedric's forehead.

When the final trace of soul light entered, Cedric's eyes opened. He looked around in confusion, as though everything around him was unfamiliar.

"A person's memory is divided into two parts—one in the soul and the other in the body. He'll gradually start to recall things. Don't remind him; let him remember on his own."

What Regulus Black was referring to were soul-based and physical memories. For a body preserved intact under the 'Avada Kedavra' curse, whether the memories were retained was still uncertain. That's why he advised against prompting Cedric—he wanted Cedric to recall things naturally.

This would prove that those memories weren't implanted by external sources but were truly his own.

"And another thing—the soul doesn't carry the body's magical power. Right now, he's like a newborn child. His use of magic must be carefully monitored. You can teach him, of course. After all, he was about to graduate, so his magical ability won't be lacking."

"Cedric! I'm your father! Say 'Dad'!"

Amos Diggory, overwhelmed with joy, began teaching his resurrected son to speak. He didn't look like a man who had just lost his child—but like one who had just become a father.
