Heidelberg Maternal and Child Health Hospital.
Claire sat anxiously in the waiting area.
After a moment, the automated voice system called her name.
Her heart lurched, and she hurried inside.
She was greeted by a female gynecology director, about forty years old.
Claire explained her situation. When the doctor asked about her last period, she suddenly realized it had been nearly two months since her cycle. Her heartbeat spiked.
"Go take a urine test first." The doctor handed her a slip, and Claire went to the lab.
Half an hour later, she sat tensely on the bench outside.
Please let it be negative. If it's positive… she didn't even dare imagine.
After waiting a few minutes, she assumed the results were ready. She approached an automated machine and placed her ID card on the sensor.
Soon, a notification appeared on the screen.
Her fingers trembled for a long moment before she managed to press confirm. As she waited for the printout, her heartbeat was a chaotic mess.
